The Most Stale Personality In WWE Today?

Michael Cole I get that he's supposed to be a heel and all, but it's just become stupid at this point. His style decreases from the overall product anymore. He's the play by play guy and does little actual play by play. I'm not saying he needs to go face or anything, but he needs to go back to doing more concise play by play. He could do concise play by play while adding a little heel venom here and there. It wouldn't be that hard.

For me, Wade Barrett. The same promo, the same moves, over and over again, and now with mediocre entrance music. Orton comes off one of the best feuds in recent memory with Christian, decent feuds with Rhodes and Henry, and then hits Barrett and it's a snoozefest.

I liked Barrett when he first entered the E, but I don't see much in him now.

Michael Cole is pretty boring. I wish he would just go back to the way he used to be in the 90s as a no body.

Also, John L has always been very boring to me. Very, very boring promos.

Cena is not stale. He is actually involved in interesting storylines and has been cutting better promos and doing better in-ring work since his Punk Summerslam feud. Punk hasn't been able to top his summerslam promo but I've found him consistently interesting on the mic and in the ring.

As far as who is stale - I'll go with Del Rio and Barrett and Cody. They are just cookie cutter heels to me without much nuance to their promos or characters. I have faith in Cody to be able to get out of this rut because to me he is the most creative of the three. Del Rio is just so cocky and arrogant, I don't think he feels like he needs to improve so I doubt he will. Barrett? I don't know. He doesn't seem that inventive in his usage of the English language. Maybe he should inject some dry British humor in there? I don't know.

the wait for it MIZ is by far the most boring person in the wwe his promos i can almost word for word a miz promo before he opens his mouth thats boring

Disagree with most re: Teddy "Peanut Head" Long being stale, apart from the Aksana angle which is oh dear. Like a previous poster, I find a lot more things on smackdown more annoying/stale than Mr Long.

Booker T on commentary is more stale than bread that was left out on the y2k party.
Smackdown theme is stale....
Khali and Jinder
Sheamus - turning into Irish Cena quickly
Hornswaggle - just get a meet and greet for the kids and keep him off telly
any diva that isnt Beth, Natalya and Kharma
every current tag team

I find Randy Orton to be quite stale.
I like what he has been doing - he put a lot of guys over in 2011, and had some awesome matches. But his character has been quite stale ever since his face turn.

I believe he could use some tweaks. Perhaps a new theme song, at very least. "I hear voices in my head" is a bit too silly, even for pro wrestling, if you ask me, at least for a character that's supposed to be taken seriously.

John Cena

If anything his personality has regressed rather than evolved. You can actually see on his promos who wrote them. There are the few serious ones where his own personality comes through, then there are the poop jokes and humor clearly not written him, its material, John Cena, the man does not find funny but they are his lines so...

I dont blame the man for that material but i do chose to blame him for not sticking up and saying "this sucks" straight to the writers or McMahon. He is the only person not named Hunter or Taker who can do that, yet he choses not to do anything it seems, as the promos only get worse.

Austin, Rock, Hogan all did that, because they knew they were big enough to stand up and speak out if they thought something was bad. If i was John Cena and i was working as hard as he is, i would be more demanding of the people responsible for my characer.

I say let John be John, i think that would work just fine and he deserves that, it would be a new challenge for someone who has done it all

David Otunga all day long without a doubt has the worst persona / gimmick I have seen in a long time! Even worst than Stevie Richards and the Right to Censor.

The thing I have found lately though is that WWE runs program's too quickly and they only allow the focus to be on so many stars at a time. So more than once a gimmick is over and finished before the superstar has really had a chance to play with it! Then because the WWE think it ain't working they swap it. How many heel / face / heel / face turns has the likes of Kane and R Truh had in the past few years while the likes of Ezekiel Jackson hasnt even had time to develop a complete gimmick?

I find Randy Orton to be quite stale.

I can agree with that. He's always exciting to watch in the ring and that covers up a multitude of sins, but his character is as stale as can be. He's completely one-dimensional; while John Cena talks about everything, including comments on issues outside pro wrestling, Randy speaks only of his next opponent and what he's going to do to him. He doesn't speak of the wrestling scene in general, the fans, management, or anything......just the guy he's going to beat up next. As a mega-star, I'd like to see more from him in this area.

His delivery is flat and only the fact that he's constantly pissed off at someone (kayfabe) keeps his voice from being totally monotone. Even as a good guy, he still appears as a bad guy because we've been getting the same soup warmed over from him for a long, long time.

Just about everyone.......

I think the real problem is that the way guys cut a promo has changed a great deal in the last 20 years. Hogan, Warrior, Demolition, Road Warriors, Ric Flair, Randy Savage, etc when these guys cut a promo they were screaming in your face and you had to pay attention. Ultimate Warrior would basically babble on about nothing, but he would keep you focused as he screamed at you. The lost area of the “screaming” promo needs to come back. R Truth never says much (In terms of value) but for whatever reason he does not make “zone out”. The others who have the slow speaking, long winded, promos that last forever really make WWE less exciting.

90% of them

They are all pretty much the same wrestlers/personality today and since it is so scripted they are not to blame. You used to have Main Event/Midcard/Jobber now you can just plop any wrestler in any role and no one would notice.

If I had to pick one it would be the Miz since he's below average on the mic and in the ring but since Mizz/Brian/Del Rio and all the heels are pretty much the same it's hard to pick one out.

IF they let them be more themselves on the mic and their personalities run through then we would see a new wrestling revolution and fans coming back. Let them rise or fall on their own instead of letting writers decide who does and doesn't have a personality.

I definitely have to agree that Teddy Long has grown super-stale, not that he was a very interesting character in the first place. He just irritates me by everything he does from the oh-so realistic heart attack on Smackdown, to pushing Laurinaitis down, running away like a scared kindergartener who just broke something, and proceeding to dance like an idiot at the top of the ramp. Sorry to all Teddy Long fans for this comment but, to me, the man is just plain annoying.

I find dolph to be pretty stale in his promo work. his matches are always great but i feel that when it is time to talk i feel his response are just typical it is nothing impressing and nothing to stand out form the crowd. the fact that he still uses vicky for heat also bothers me. put vicky on someone who need her. if he is as good as he says he is he doesnt need her anymore.

Miz is kind of stale but he is always stale since he just isnt that good. How about Ted Dibiase? I just cant find anything entertaining about the dude. Jinder Mahal is pretty boring as well. Cant say he is stale because he was never green. lol. Same goes for Michael McGillicuty but I dont even know if he still has a job.

A personality that has been stale for me for some time is that of Cody Rhodes.

I'd agree, although his personality may be non-existent, rather than stale. I've been saying over and over that it's a tribute to WWE's Creative team that Cody has been made into a person of interest in the first place. His words are delivered mechanically, his facial expressions seem forced and his body language is stilted and stiff.

This is not to say I dislike him, by the way. He wrestles well and looks good in the ring. Still, if Dusty Rhodes wasn't his father, would he have had the Creative people writing program after program for him? Other wrestlers backstage who are waiting for their turn must secretly wonder why Cody gets the absolute cream of everything handed to him.

Watching Raw with some people a few weeks ago, we were laughing at the film clips being shown of "Big Show's Embarrassing WM Moments." A couple of my friends were saying: "Wow! Look at Cody go!" as if he had produced the damn clips. But, my buddies gave him credit for it, showing that a bland personality can be covered up with a good program.

Still, I'd like to see Cody display something fresh on his own.

Those Mexican wrestlers. Epico, Primo, Camacho, Hunico, Sin Cara, hell, even Rey Mysterio. I'm sick of all them because I don't have a vested interest in their characters. I've met many people from Mexico and other Latin American countries, but none of them are like the four gangsters. I was interested in the Sin Cara and Mysterio gimmicks at one time, but they have become the epitome of stale (I'll give Sin Cara a chance because his matches were different, but nothing for Rey Mysterio).

I understand some may say that Cena's act has been old for about seven years, and while I can't exactly argue that I'd say he'd really benefit from reinventing himself just a bit more, I'd still say there's still a few match types that still work with what he's going as now, like John Cena vs Brock Lesnar (which we're getting), John Cena vs The Undertaker, or John Cena vs Daniel Bryan. This character, as stretched out as it is, can still work.

The Miz should work on changing his character a bit more now, but I don't think it's really as needed as it's still not exactly completely run it's course. A feud with Chris Jericho or Christian would be great for The Miz. He just needs more ideas is the main thing. At the moment, he's not really having something to do, but that's because he's done almost all he can do with his character as a heel. Just, like I said, work something out soon.

I have to say beyond a shadow of a doubt, a man who just really needs to change is Orton. The Viper stuff was getting old in 2009. Come 2010, after a feud with Edge, there really just was nothing he could do to stay interesting. They actually had to have other people change gimmicks in order to give people something to want. His biggest problem is just that there was always possibilities with the legend killer because there were a billion legends. Now, Orton just seems like he lacks any real thing to do with him. His feud with Wade was turning out good, but Wade was injured before they seemed like they were going to finish it at Wrestlemania. They just need to end the Viper gimmick or stop keeping him in the main event scene.

I'm gonna go with Jerry Lawler. The King has become stale on commentary mainly because he no longer has JR to go with and his best moments were the non PG one line jokes he delivered in the 98-01 time frame.

Maybe it's Cole dragging him down...but King needs something to jolt his character *NOT A HEEL TURN, just maybe some freedom to work off script every now and then

I have to agree with you on this one. When I read the title the King immediately came to my mind. I mentioned this in another thread that he just seems to be going through the motions. He is not funny anymore, and his character has gotten so stale that I have stated I wish he would just retire. Mind you he was one of my favorites in the attitude era alongside JR. I don't think he needs a heel turn, but I don't like his ultra face character either. Maybe something in between would suit him better, but he definitely needs some sort of change.

I am going to have to say Kofi Kingston. The guy has a lot of talent but his personality, character, and gimmick are basically non-existent. EVERY match with him is exactly the same.

He is so stale to the point where, in my mind, he's more or less a jobber.

I'm going with "The all american american" on this one. Jack Swagger is seriously stale as hell. He's literally had the same gimmick, attitude, and alignment since walking in one ECW. His promos are basically the same thing the whole time of his career, nothing special. I can't go back and think of 1 time that there was a Jack Swagger promo that I actually liked.

I am a fan of his ring work though, some of the best in the 'E, but that's not the question, the question is most stale personality, and that is Jack Swagger, bar none.

Teddy Long no doubt. I cannot be more happy that Johnny is in charge of Smackdown. Hopefully bring some unpredictability to Smackdown. In terms of wrestlers i hate to say it, but Brodus Clay has gotten stale, even with the fucking dancers, dancing, fun music and mirrorball. Even with all that it'g gotten stale.

To anyone on here talking about a miz face turn, explain to me how? i mean miz is just so easy to hate... i dont know if he could actually get cheered

That's what I used to think about Sheamus, yet I can't believe how much I enjoy cheering him now.

Miz could turn face.....and I think it's about time he did. It's all in the presentation; i.e., the reason they give for him turning. Give the guy a cause, and with his gift of gab, he could probably be a wildly popular face.

why is everybody saying Teddy Long. I mean he has been in the came for decads now. What do you want him to do. I mean you cant think of any wrestlers that are stale and bringing the product down. You act like Teddy does his own thing and creative doesnt get involved. its not like he is a wrestler were he has to get over either face or heel. He was the GM all he did was annouce matches that were already going to happen.
Anyway.....
I think the Miz and Alberto Del Rio are pretty stale. You would think they could figure out they werent getting over either way amd would do something a little differnt. The whole destiny thing and Really(repeat 5x) and im awsome is garbage.

I believe that many of the current stale stats such as long and miz will get a change very soon.

With the draft miz can go to smackdown and reinvent himself and long can go onto manager aksana, kofi , truth and santino.

I find booker t and lawler very stale yet two good announcers in regal & striker are stuck on nxt & superstars.

Lawler been around a long time now so I reckon it may be time to release him. Booker t just doesn't work with cole so instead if reinventing booker just keep coke on raw and team him with Matthews or striker and have regal and booker on smackdown .
