Simply put, I want to know what bands you only liked after seeing them live. Was it a certain song? Was it the stage presence? Was it the crowd? Be sure to explain yourself.
One band that falls in to this category for me, is Red. I heard their stuff on the radio, but it was never anything I had to listen to. I could turn the radio off, or change the station, and not care. I didn't have to own the CD, but I wasn't against listening to them. Then, I saw them open for Flyleaf and Seether, and it all changed. They put on a good rock show, and got the crowd into it better than almost any opening band I've seen. Now, I make sure to leave the station on when I hear "We'll have Red after this break.", and I bought their CD, so I can listen to them whenever I want. Their music sounds good live, and that's something I've seen great bands falter with.
Another band that falls into this, is Bury Your Dead. They're obviously never on the radio, but I have a lot of friends that like them, but it never caught on with me. I'd tune it out, and forget it was even on. I had seen them on Family Values '06, and wasn't impressed, but they didn't do bad. Then, I saw them open for Five Finger Death Punch and In This Moment last year, and was instantly hooked. There was a different lead singer, which probably made a huge difference, because the crowd was electric for him. Anything he did, he got a response. The music sounded better (although it could be due to a much smaller venue), and the vocals were cleaner. I think this one was owed entirely to crowd reaction. I love when a band can get every person in the crowd eating out of their hands.
