The History Between Edge and Christian

Doomsday Device

Pre-Show Stalwart
Im not too sure how this went down in 2005 (around this time I wasnt tuned in on wwe happenings religiously), but if I remember correctly, Christian left the E because he felt like he wasnt given a spot at the Main Event picture. Heading on to TNA. Then, right at the beginning of 2006 Edge wins the WWE Championship and realizes his dream. Sure, Edge deserved it, and yes he had the MITB privilege, but I think one little bone in Vince's body was saying "this is an FU to Christian" sort of saying "look, Im pushing your buddy to the Moon, this could have been you if you had not left" Ive always gotten that impression out of that whole ordeal. Sure, E & C arent really related and their careers are not parallel, but if Christian would have been a bit more patient, he would have achieved his World Title and Main Event status. He has the in-ring talent and he sure has the charisma.

I certainly agree with the fact that had Christian stuck around, he would've been quite relevant to the main event scene, one of the established main event veterans I might even go as far as to say.

but I think one little bone in Vince's body was saying "this is an FU to Christian" sort of saying "look, Im pushing your buddy to the Moon, this could have been you if you had not left" .

On this matter all thou, I have my doubts, very definite doubts even, as I simply don't see Vince giving shit about Christian leaving when it came to pushing Edge.
Edge in my opinion is and always has been gold, on the mic, and in the ring, well certainly it can be argued that Edge isn't anything worthwhile to mention when it comes to being a technical wonder child in the ring, but Edge certainly isn't lost behind a wagon neither.

And I actually think Christian would've been pushed to the main event scene a little later than Edge, simply because thats the way it has always been from my point of view, Edge won the king of the ring, leaving Christian to become jealous and initiate the break up of E&C.
Hell Edge won (proper) singles competition gold before Christian too, so I have my doubts that Christian wouldn't have been just a follow-up eventually, and actually even a potential feud with Edge because of it, in case Christian had chosen to stick around.

From what I can remember Edge and Christian have not been put face to face on tv since Christian's return, if they did do it, I missed it. Some people would like to see them back together, at least for a while, or even feud again. If Christian wins the MITB this year it may be an indication that these two may be doing some tv together.

I seriously do think the E&C storyline has been played out from backstage to on tv. With Christian leaving and coming back, this kind of used the old story line from when C chair shotted Edge after the KOTR win way back when. Then you notice how many MITB matches he's been in and been DENIED? Each time Edge been one of the Main Eventers, and you still can't help but know that deep down usually the personal politicking (spelling?) involved with who usually walks away with gold (Namely Shamus with his lips on HHH's rear...or Drew Mac on Vinny Mac's rear...etc...etc...) It even seems to be that way with Gail Kim (that's another subject. :banghead: I mean, heck, Christian has SOO much going, I've read Stone Cold's bio, Batista's bio, and both of them can't stop bragging about him and how much of a worker this dude is. Edge's bio, heck, every other word is like about Christian. You would think that Someone who's taken their pride and swallowed it and put up with so much would be able to get some respect back, it seems like absolute power does corrupt absolutely. Sometimes it seems like people are blind or deaf if they don't see HOW ABSOLUTELY APE CRAP NUTS those arenas go when Christian's theme plays and he enters the ring. ...Then to put Christian on RAW...being buried under HHH and Shamus and Cena? He NEEDS to be on Smackdown!! C'mon. Sorry to go on..but I just HAD to speak my peace. AAHH...now I can exhale. LOL :twocents:

Its like if there was an imaginary line of wrestlers, lets say the top 10 in the company whether its up and comers or veterans , when Christian is just a few positions away from getting a serious title shot and perhaps getting his moment, all of a sudden about 4 guys are put in right front of him and he'll have to keep waiting more and more.

When Christian left the E, and headed to TNA, the first thing Christian did was get on the mic and rip a promo on Vince and the E (those who havent seen it go to youtube. Im sure Vince did not take this kindly, its understandable, no one would. So I guess Christian one day noticed his heart was with the E, and came back. Can anyone say pecking order? Predictably Christian could have been put on Smackdown for his second coming, but no, lets put it in today's crappy version of ECW, where fans will know he's back, but at the same time most people dont care to watch that show. Thats ok, thats in the past now. If Christian wins the MITB I will be interested in seeing what will happen next.

I am with Doomsday device........ for example...on Money in the bank...I remember on WM21 it was a who's who.... Kane, Christian, Shelton, Matt Hardy, Edge, Y2J, RVD, forgive me if I don't recall everyeone....but it was people who HAD PUT in at least a couple years and SOLID matches with the E. Now on this run...you have Drew, Ziggles, and I'm almost sure Kofi, don't ask me why they want to make it a possible 10 man...that lessens the chances for the vets like Christian and Kane and Matt Hardy. I mean it seems like creative somehow thinks that by making it BIGGER BETTER that everyone will like it. But I do believe that this could possibly turn out to be a big clusterFudge like last year's Miss Wrestlemania was if they aren't careful. There could be some mysterious dark horse mystery entrant at #10...

Edge and Christian have had a few backstage encounters since each of their returns. My hope is that Christian wins MitB and cashes it in on Batista or Cena (everyone cashes in on Cena) after the WWE title match. Then in the main event Edge wins the WHC from Jericho. To end the show and send everyone home on a high note, have Christian join Edge in the confetti celebration ("for the benefit of those with flash photography... 5 second poses") just like Benoit and Eddie did years ago.

Plus if Christian cashes in at Mania it will give them a reason to have their MitB PPV without 2 cases floating around.

The only reason Edge got his push was all the real life heat he got with Hardy and Lita.
I don't think the WWE sees much value in Christian as a main event wrestler. He has the 2nd biggest pop in the company only behind.. Edge. With all due respect he's not as compelling to watch admittedly but he makes all his opponents look like main eventers, kinda like HBK. He's proven he can main event and carry a company on his back. He's good enough to get the opening match spot time and time again which is as important as the main event as it sets the tone.

However he's simply too small to go any further than the upper mid card in the WWE on talent alone. A new finisher and a little more attitude would elevate him a bit but what he really needs is a solid program with someone like Jericho or Edge to reestablish himself.

i disagree with Christian being to small i.e. Rey Mysterio and Cm Punk both were world champions..Christians best bet would be smackdown to win the Gold as i don't see him on Raw very long after he wins money in the bank..Christian did the right thin by leaving the E and joining TNA it woke Vince up and when he returned gave him a successful run on the C BRAND ECW as champion before this he was losing to Mexicool

Right now, the best thing for Christian would be in a main event program where he doesn't win. Make him look strong, but have him *just* miss out on the gold. Not only will this give Christian a little bit more credibility, it will also show the top brass how much of a reaction he can actually garner from the crowd.

Also, imagine the angle it could take. Everyone has seen Christian slowly grow as a wrestler. Put him in a proper title chase. Give it months, but switch it up. have him Number 1 contender matches and triple threat matches. He never quite gets the gold, but the crowd are always behind him. Eventually, he becomes such a thorn in the champions side that he gets a one on one title match that is a one shot oppertunity. Give it 3-4 weeks to build up. Do it on TV, on the web and in the magazine. Imagine the crowd that night with every false finish and 2 and 10/11ths kickouts.

That is when Christian should win his first title.

Personally I'd really love to see these two in a feud once again. The E&C, Hardys, and Dudley stuff from way back in the Attitude Era was simply astounding. I hated the super heel E&C, but I loved to hate them, and they put on a great show. I think it would be cool to see them get the tag belts...you know, a REAL tag team could have them. I'd also enjoy a feud over the title. Very little excites me about WWE, but if one of these scenarios were to work out, I would TOTALLY tune in for that.

ya know Kexxer, that's a great idea. Kinda like what they did with Hardy at the the end of 2008. I mean, every title shot he had, starting in like September I think, and going all the way til december. I mean, every time I thought he was SO gonna win the title, and then he didn't, and it made that WWE Championship win ALL the more exciting.

Christian being on ECW as long as he was was a crime. He has big main event potential and offers from fresh feuds! I would love to see him and Orton feud.

I respect the performer who feels he needs to move on to achieve his dream. Sometimes I think the E thinks they are the devil and own people's souls.

What Christian did when he got to TNA is apart of the business. Vinny as ripped a many people and welcomed them back with open arms.

Sometimes I think Edge is skinnier than Christian lol. But he would make a great world champ. He has charisma, mic skills, and can have big matches.

Or, one day E and C can re-ignite the tag team division 1 day.
