The Heisman is a joke

Excellence of Execution
For example:

YEAR CMP ATT YDS CMP% YPA LNG TD INT SACK RAT
2009 330 468 3512 70.5 7.50 88 27 12 30 147.46

YEAR CMP ATT YDS CMP% YPA LNG TD INT SACK RAT
2009 289 425 3722 68.0 8.76 88 28 4 24 161.43

Not sure if those numbers will look right when the thread is posted, but basically put, just by looking at those two numbers, one would assume that the QB with the more passing yards, more yards per attempt, more TDs, fewer INTs, fewer Sacks and better rating would be the front-runner for the Heisman.

Instead, the inferior stats are Colt McCoy's the current Heisman favorite, and the second line of stats isn't even invited to the ceremony. Apparently, the Heisman is no longer about being the best player in college football, just being the QB, RB, or WR of one of the best teams in college football.

The Heisman is a joke.

This is a new development? It's been a joke for years. The problem is that it goes to the QB of a team playing for the national title or an exciting running back. I think there's been one defensive player ever to win it. Now are you trying to convince me that in what, 70+ years of the award that ONE time the best player has been on defense? It's like in the BCS: if you don't play for a major team or in a major conference, you have no realistic shot. Look at at least the last two winners and teh favorites this year. All of them are from national powers.

All you have to do is look at the Heisman winners of the past and see how they're doing in the NFL or in Real Estate.

Most our out of the league or on the bench. Matt Leinart? Bench. Reggie Bush? Punt returner and 3rd string running back for the Saints. Jason White? Who? Exactly. Chris Weinke? HUH? Eddie George? Not in the league anymore.

The point is to reward someone on a top tier team. Jimmy Clausen will be a Top 10 draft pick and even if he's not, whomever he falls to will be thankful to have him. Colt McCoy and Tebow aren't NFL QB's. Now, CJ Spiller's special and Suh is a hoss and SHOULD win the Heisman, but won't. Although after the Nebraska/Texas game, Suh officially adopted McCoy and is now his daddy.

Because I created it in the Bar Room. To be fair, while I wanted to point out the Heisman is a joke, this was also FTS bait. :D

I hate the Heisman. Though I expect Mark Ingram to win it. The man who deserves the Heisman is Nebraska DT Ndamakong Suh. The Heisman is suppose to go to the best player in the nation and Suh has been that and then some. The guy is a flat out monster. And while defensive guys rarely win, I'm glad this kid got the invite. I'm a little disappointed CJ Spiller wasn't invited. The guy was a monster this year. Him and Suh would be 1-2 and my ballot followed by Toby Gerhart. But because they play for the BCS Championship teams, Ingram and McCoy will most likely be the top 2 guys. I hope not though.

If you're team is 6-6, you probably shouldn't win the Heisman. At least, that's what I've been told. Kellen Moore should really be up there as well though.

I would think putting up those numbers on a 6-6 team would be MORE proof of how good someone is, not less.

This isn't an MVP award, it's an award for the best player.

The Heisman is a curse. If I'm looking to go pro, I stay away from that trophy as much as possible.

So is Tebow the exception since he had the most touchdowns in a season in history but his team went 9-4?

I hope Gerhart wins the Heisman but it probably won't happen because I think's he #1 in rushing yards and touchdowns.

The last guy to win the Heisman and truly have a great NFL career is Charles Woodson. I excluded Carson Palmer because of injuries (but his career is far from over) and Ricky Williams because of weed.

I knew someone who won a contest years ago to have lunch with the Heisman Trophy winner back in 2000. He was so excited, and was bragging about it because he was very certain he'd be having lunch with either Michael Vick or Drew Brees.

It wound up being Chris Weinke.

Graham Harrell deserved better. Back before the roster update for Madden came out, I did a trial run with the Patriots on a Franchise mode. Brady went down, and Harrell led the Pats to the playoffs.

I don't know if he's a system QB or not, but there's gotta be some talent there to throw for 45 TDs and 5000+ yards.

The Heisman is somewhat of a joke, but not as much as people think. Like FTS said if we go by numbers then the Texas Tech, Hawaii, and Houston quarterbacks will win it every year.

I actually think Ingram or Suh deserve it the most this year. Stats are just one thing that need to be considered, you also have to look at the competition. Gerhart had better numbers then Ingram, but it's a lot easier to put up big numbers against Pac 10 defenses then it is against SEC defenses.

Yeah, I don't really care about the Heisman anymore either. It pissed me off when Colt Brennen hardly got any talk even though he threw 58 touchdowns. Regardless of the team he was on thats fucking impressive.

Then let's give the Heisman to the Texas Tech QB every year and be done with it.
Or we could just give it to the best player...like I suggest.

There's no way Colt McCoy is the best player, he's not even the best quarterback.

Q: Which will come first-Sly saying something positive about Texas or Missouri beating Texas?

A: Neither will ever happen!

Sorry, I just wanted to throw that in.

Actually, I agree that he isn't the best player. I think that that was CJ Spiller, who's lack of presence in the final group is an insult.

If Coly wins, it's a lifetime achievement award, and that's fine with me personally.

Something positive about Texas, something positive about Texas...umm...

You have hot women. That is all.

I just said something positive about Texas, and we beat you 69-65 on February 4, 2009 AT Texas. So suck it.

At least you can be fair about that.

If we're giving liftime achievement award, then it needs to go to Tebow, who will go down (whether you like it or not) as one of, if not THE, greatest player in college football history.

He should be there over McCoy and Tebow but Ingram and Gerhart both had better seasons and Suh is the most dominating college defender since Charles Woodson.

That we do. Why am I on a wrestling forum right now? Fuck having a job. :(

Man, we are loaded this year. I am almost as excited as when we had Kevin Durant for like six games before he went pro.

At least you can be fair about that.

I admit I am a homer.

I don't think he's better than Vince. I think he is almost as good, but Vince was the best player on the field for every snap of his last two years of college, and I can't say that I wouldn't rather have Eric Berry or Mark Ingrahm on my team this year. And Tebow got his, Colt got robbed last year, and with his becoming the winningest player in the history of the game (albeitm the beneficiary of expanded seasons and a redshirt year), it might be his year.

That being said, Suh's being a finalist implies that a lot of people voted after the Big 12 Championship game, so I think it goes to Ingram, who, for reasons that boggle my fucking mind, will be the first Tide player ever to win that award.
