The Hall Of Fame Rings Storyline: Bad Push Idea Or A Subtle Jab?

I really don't want to comment much in this thread, because it's been discussed to death about not only how bad the story line is, but also how much we hate seeing Hogan and Abyss on television these days.

Those Hall of Fame rings are not WWE Hall of Fame rings. They are from the Pro Wrestling Hall of Fame, which has all of wrestling's legends from all promotions, including Hogan and Flair. So the story line is not "stupid", once you realize that they aren't talking about their WWE rings. The story line is "stupid" because Abyss is shit, and Hogan is annoying.

Well, maybe the rings they are wearing are the rings from the pro wrestling hall of fame, but they are talking about the WWE Hall of Fame. Ric Flair said he recieved that ring in front of 18,000 people, and I don't believe that many people show up at the other hall of fame ceremony. So if the angle was meant to showcase the pro wrestling hall of fame rings instead, someone (Flair) really screwed that up. All evidence points toward this being about the WWE Hall of Fame. If Hogan and company are ACTUALLY talking about the Pro Wrestling Hall of Fame, they have done a piss poor job in conveying that. Perception is reality, and just about everyone, IMO, believes this is in regards to the WWE hall of fame. There are a lot of general wrestling fans out there who probably believe the WWE HOF is the only HOF, so once again, perception is reality.

I don't believe this is a slap in the face to WWE at all. When Abyss recieved that ring, he gained an incredible amount of power, and has been ustoppable since. He was been on a rampage, and it's all thanks to Hogan and his ring.

Do I think this is the dumbest angle I have seen since Hogan arrived? Yes. But to Hogan, this isn't cheesy. To Hogan, this is a great angle. If anything, this is Hogan saying the WWE Hall of Fame is the biggest honor in professional wrestling. Abyss having that ring has turned him into, what Hogan believes, the most dominant guy in TNA.

If this was meant to be a 'jab' at the WWE, it hasn't come off that way. If that were the original idea, it has been poorly executed. They have made the WWE hall of fame ring look as though it makes people invincible. To me, that is a compliment, not a jab.

Some people may think Hogan is making a joke out of Abyss, and maybe he is. I just don't see how that works for TNA. Abyss has been destroying everyone, and he headlined the PPV (and Team Hogan) against Team Flair. I think this angle with the HOF ring is absolutely terrible, but whether Hogan knows it or not, he is making the WWE look good.

:disappointed: People who don't pay attention disappoint me.

To those that are arguing that they are using Pro Wrestling Hall of Fame rings and not WWE Hall of Fame you are wrong and I would suggest you play closer attention to the storyline if you're going to bother commenting on it. They did the sit-down interview with Flair a couple of weeks and said he got his ring "in a ceremony in front of 18,000 people." The people at the Pro Wrestling Hall of Fame would crap themselves if they could get half that many to show to one of their inductions. A couple of weeks before that after Hogan had initially given Abyss the ring Taz had mentioned how he had been present when Hogan had received his induction- a fact true of the WWE Hall of Fame, but not the PW Hall of Fame. And beyond all that the little WWE logo on the ring has been visible at various points during the angle. So arguing that they're not WWE rings is asinine, pure and simple- there is no debate. So I suggest you learn what you're talking about my deluded friend.

Then if what you're saying is true, then I gave these fools the benefit of the doubt that they wouldn't stoop so low in their booking of angles. To use the WWE ring completely shits on TNA as a wrestling company. Shame on me for thinking Hogan and company had a little dignity left for their careers.

You've been watching it close enough to remember all of those lines and little instances that Flair and Taz said? Then you are delusional, because this shit is completely unwatchable. Kudos to you for putting up with this nonsense.

In one sense them losing their HOF rings is as offensive as Kurt Angle losing his medals either by someone stealing them or just losing a match. In all the cases I personally find it offensive as the rings and medals are supposed to be the most prestigious forms of recognizing their accomplishments in their field of athletics. The peak of amateur wrestling is a gold medal at the olympics. In Wrestling the most prestigious form of recognition today is being inducted into the WWE hall of fame. I think they should put their foot down and stop such angles from occuring with the power they possess.

Just my two cents.

Wait a bloody damned minute. Let met get this straight to see if I understood this correctly. You are saying that TNA running the Hall of Fame ring angle is just as offensive as if Kurt Angle lost his Olympic gold medal right? So right here and right now, you seem to come up with one swell argument about how offended you are even at the mere thought given Angles accomplishments. You really brought the thunder and gave me something to think about.

I mean it was compelling, passionate, and thought provoking. It gave a different insight into an angle that otherwise may have been underexamined. But I find it to be highly flawed as one problem seems to exist in the annuls of time. And that one thing is that WWE already did it, not onceor twice but three times. In 2004, they ran an angle where Eddie Guerrero stole the medal from Angle, in the middle of the ring. And that wasn't even the first time. The first time was when Steve Austin stole them in 2001 and tossed them into the Detroit River. And let's not forget when Chris Benoit stole them and Kurt had to win them back at Judgement day that year. So that's twice in one year.

So what I'm pretty much saying is that your point is rather moot as you expressed no previously unsettled disgust in your statement. Thusly, we can conclude is that you would only find disgust in such an angle if TNA ran it and therefore are only going over the ring angle because TNA is doing it.

Look people, I don't know what the hell TNA can do to please you anymore. It seems like they can do no right. You say to push the originals, they did that. You say to push the younger guys. They do that. You say to bring in some fresh blood or to go after certain names. And they did that. And now, they run and angle where the whole point is to give some recognition and push to a couple of the original guys who have endless talent and what is your reaction? Pissing, whining, and disgust? My advice is to GET OVER IT. If you don;t like it, don't watch it. I just get so tired of you people watching just so you can complain about it. If anything, THAT disgusts me people.
