The Domestic Football Thread

Agreed about Kuyt, he's also that rarest thing, a dutch footballer that isnt a childish prick. Even the likeable ones like Van Der Vaart storm off in tempers because they've been substituted for their own good. Shame their so good really.

2 players that I can remember even the liverpool fans shitting on were Kuyt and Lucas, I always thought both were good. People underestimate workrate in football, its why Arsenal dont win anything, too many artists and not enough grafters.

Never thought I'd find a football thread on this forum but since I've chanced upon it I'll do my little bit.

Last year when HBK retired I lost one out of two boyhood hero's I had, while coping with the fact that HBK was gone I heard Giggsy would be hanging his boots come end of 10/11 *gutted* cos seriously, when you're boyhood idols start retiring it can only mean you're realllllly getting old, haha, but as luck would have it Giggsy renewed for another year and marking his 601st league game scores his 108th (thereabouts) league goal. What a gun.

From "boy genius" to "wing wizard" to "ever green", can any player come close to achieving what Giggsy has done? As a person & a player IN CLUB football? I can only think of one other person who can be mentioned in the same breath, albeit a step lower then Giggs of course :), which is Maldini. Why lower? Cos there is only one Giggs.

Sadly the newer fans don't know what giggsy is all about, having never seen him play from '93-'99, when he was arguably the best left winger in the world (yes, THE best) cos if you thought Cristiano R. could dribble then Giggs would have been God-like. Though Ronaldo is a better finisher by miles.., but then again Giggs was never converted to a striker and never got to sharpen his finishing skills, though thats not to say Giggs wasn't an incredible goal scorer (160 odd of which 140 odd were is some form or another works of art). And the assist - highest ever I think. Nah, I'm sure of it.

Ryan Giggs - Legend.

...also inspirer of the phrase "...I hate Man United but (insert something nice about Giggs here)..." lol

On a side note: United for the title to go 19, and Fergie finally fulfilling his prophecy to "knock liverpool of their f'in perch" -In Sir Alex we trust. =)

I quoted this because of the FA Cup Semi Final on Saturday, where Paul Scholes looked about 10 years older than Ryan Giggs. As much as I hate to admit it, Scholes being one of the players I tried to emulate in my budding football days, but he looks finished by comparison. One of the greatest footballers ever, but he's just Keane without the shouting, has those "red mist" moments and loses games, no wonder the national team thought they could do without him.

Giggsy looks like he has a year at least left in him, on Saturday Scholes just looked like he didnt want to be there anymore.

If he does go, I for one shall miss his tackles

I had a thought that I would post in this thread. I have no idea what I will ramble about but to simply show my love to Miko is my main aim here...

Anyway, today I watched two games that are basically going to go a long way in telling what silverware is going in which direction this year. Given that one of them may be a little more important than the other, they were still entertaining damn it!

Well, let’s start with the blockbuster clash, shall we?

Arsenal vs Liverpool

Maybe it was the fact that I really don't like either of these teams that meant I didn't get emotionally invested in this one but I suppose it was still a decent game. The real good action didn't come until the 102nd minute but it was still a solid match that really could have gone either way in all actuality. Liverpool look like a much better team with King Kenny at the helm and if the owners give him the funds in the summer (provided that he gets the job) then he could really start to do some damage next season. I suppose it goes a long way in showing how a decent manager can get you over the hump that is Liverpool's season and get them back on track.

Arsenal will be gutted that their penalty was not enough to put Liverpool away but here;s the thing, when you are in second spot in the league and pushing for the Championship, you should be putting away teams that stand before you. You need to be putting the pressure onto the team at the top of the league and Arsenal have given Manchester United a huge boost by not putting Liverpool away. No one is to blame except for Arsenal. As the chokers that they have proven to be over the last decade and beyond, this has come as no surprise to me and I am calling it now that the league race is over for this season.

This is all the more surprising when you consider how poor the Manchester United team is this season. Rooney has been short of form and they have no Ronaldo. Ferdinand and Vidic have both had long spells on the shelf and yet they still sit atop the Premier League with that smug look on their fucking faces. I think it says more about everyone else than it does about Manchester United.

Celtic vs Aberdeen

What? No one cares? Well, fuck you! This is my post!

Celtic thoroughly trounced Aberdeen today and a 4-0 scoreline had basically told me that we are going to win the Scottish Cup. Yes, that may have been the most obvious statement in the history of football and no one knew it as well as me when Rangers were booted out by a fantastic Celtic side. Nevertheless, there is no way that Motherwell will be able to content with the players that Celtic have at their disposal in the final. I fully expect them to turn on the style one week from my birthday and make sure that we are winning one thing this season.

As for the other competition we are out to win, Rangers took a big step forward by winning against St Mirren yesterday. Yes, it may have been against the bottom club and they may also have won with a penalty but they still ground out the win. I have a feeling that they are going to perform poorly after the split though and I have to believe that Celtic have the means to see out the rest of the season and win the trophy. Rangers just do not look like a good team right now, They are depleted and their players just do not look interested in the season. Either way, I am looking forward to what happens now.

Last night was a very big night in the title races of both the Scottish and English leagues.

Newcastle United vs Manchester United

Firstly, it is worth saying that this is a good result for Newcastle. Lee said it best last night, the two best results for the Newcastle season have been draws against two of the biggest teams in the league. To my mind, he is talking about the 4-4 draw with Arsenal and the result last night. When you consider that Manchester United have been on a great roll recently and Newcastle should be the sort of team that Manchester United should be looking to beat in the run-in. Honestly, with all due respect to Newcastle, Man U should have the quality to beat them... Even though they were away.

With Arsenal now having a game in hand and being 7 points behind, it looks as though the title race is back on. If they win their game in hand, they are only 4 points behind with enough games to level it up later in the season. A very interesting result last night. Congratulations to Newcastle but this was a match they had no right of walking away from with something in their pockets.

Dundee United vs Rangers

What a terrible match this turned out to be. I watched the match up until the second penalty and it was one of those matches that would have been so much better if their had been no red cards. Maybe it is because I feel Dundee United would have been more successful and that would only have been good for Celtic. However, what annoys me most is that this game was basically ruined for all intents and purposes. Three red cards is not what you want and Peter Houston must be cursing his luck. Both of the spot kicks I saw were definite penalties and Dundee United have only got themselves to blame for this. Given that Dundee United usually give Rangers a very tough game, they must be annoyed that they made it this simple for Rangers.

Tonight, we see Kilmarnock take on Celtic in a game that Celtic need to win, to be honest. They are now 4 points behind with two games in hand and with the Old Firm game on the horizon, they need to be within the 1 point to put the pressure back onto Rangers. But we shall see. Expect a full update later in the week.

Obviously I agree with what you said seeing as I said it originally, yeah the 5-1 v Sunderland and 6-0 v Villa are massive results the come back v Arsenal, the clean sheet v Man U at SJP will go down with it. It's also interesting to note that Liverpool were beaten 3-1 at SJP, Chelsea could only manage a 1-1 draw and the same with Spurs. That's five of the top six failed to win here in the league. Yet we lose to teams like Stoke, Blackpool, Everton and Blackburn. Sure is an interesting ground for teams to come to.

Whilst the controvesy was over the penalties (who cares, they both wern't given so shh!) it shouldn't be taken away from the fact that Man U were decent but fucked up their finishing and we were decent and fucked up our finishing. Good game and I loved Owen's boo!

Big round of applause for Arsenal please, they managed to blow it again, if the Premier League Title was won with 5 points, Arsenal would get 4. Hats off to Mr Wenger, your team plays half decent football, is terrified of shooting and has been found out by nearly every good team out there.

Hopefully the Russian Mafia don Abramovich gets his way and theres a shakeup at Chelsea which see's Terry removed from proceedings. Tired of seeing his big head (literally of course) giving it all the mouth, all the while getting skinned by Millwall players.

So we are a few games away from the end of the season, the EPL title is all but Man Uniteds to throw away, Tottenham are running out of time to steal the 4th spot, Man City look all set to take it and the FA Cup as well (please win Stoke) and the Champions League it seems is going back to Spain, Mourinho's thrown that wide open by topping Barca in the Copa Del Ray, and you wouldnt bet against Jose when things start to work out.

Would like to see Spurs do City out of a top 4 place again, especially if Tevez fucks off to Spain or Italy afterwards, one can but hope.

Arsenal The only team that can finish third in a two horse race.

Great to see liverpool playing well again. We have pretty much had to go the whole season without gerrard and torres which two seasons ago would have been unthinkable.
Heres hoping we get king kenny on a long term contract and get back in the champions league next season!
In kenny we trust :worship: :worship:

Mourinho and Ronaldo Barcelona comments said:
Mourinho continued his post-match rant by targeting Barcelona's record of playing against ten-men in the competition, most notably their win over Chelsea in the semi-final in 2009.

"I just have one question: Why?,'' he added. ''Why Ovrebo [Chelsea vs. Barcelona referee in 2007 semi-final], Busacca [Barcelona vs. Arsenal in this year's Champions League], Stark? In each semi-final it is the same. We are talking about an absolutely fantastic team. Why didn't Chelsea make the final? Why did Inter have to be saved by a miracle?

''Congratulations to Barcelona. But I just do not understand why Barcelona always receive the help of the referee. All my life I will be asking myself this question, and one day I hope to receive an answer.

''I am not too sad, I have a great family. But I don't understand why Barcelona have this power. It happened two years ago to Chelsea (in the 2009 semi-finals), almost to my Inter last year, and also to Arsenal this year.

''Why do the opponents of Barcelona always have a man sent off? Where does this power come from? Maybe it is to give more publicity to UNICEF, maybe because of the power of (Spanish federation president Jose Angel) Villar in UEFA.''

Turning his attention to Pep Guardiola, Mourinho said: ''Barcelona are a great team on and off the pitch, but winning like that doesn't leave the same taste.

''I have already won two Champions Leagues, and I won them on the pitch, with two teams that weren't Barcelona. I won one with Porto, a small team from a weaker league. And I won another with Inter, sweating and fighting hard.

''Josep Guardiola is a fantastic football coach, but the Champions League he won was an embarrassment because of what happened at Stamford Bridge - it was a scandal. And if he wins it this year, he will win after the scandal at the Bernabeu. Let's hope he gets the chance to win a clean Champions League (in future), without scandals.

''Guardiola deserves to win a Champions League normally. That's what I wish because he is a very good coach who I respect as a person for his fantastic treatment in four years with him.

''I respect him a lot as a coach and as a person, I hope that one day he will win a clean Champions League, with no incidents behind it.''

Cristiano Ronaldo, who was largely anonymous as an attacking presence during the game and showed visible frustration with the way Madrid were playing said: "Do I like to play in a defensive team like Madrid? No, but I have to adapt to what the coach wants.

"Playing against 10 men isn't easy. 0-0 would have been a good result. 2-0 is very difficult. Messi played very well, but it's easier against ten."

However, Ronaldo also agreed with his coach's assessment of how Barcelona extend their influence over the game.

"It's always the same with them [Barcelona]. This is the fourth consecutive season that something like this has happened. [Jose] Mourinho is right, just look at what happened with Arsenal, Chelsea and Inter," he added. "They [Barcelona] are a fantastic team, but they also have a lot of influence, both on and off the pitch."

I agree with a lot of this and I think I've posted about it before in this very thread, I've been saying it since 2009, Barcelona are a fantastic football team but they could not get any more help from officials, I do genuinely think it comes from an image that UEFA want the Champions League to have.

I dont think it likely in the slightest, but even though they have Nani in their team I'd like United to pull off an upset in the final.

Alot of people would say that its justice for Mourinho's negative tactics, and while I am not a huge fan of negative tactics I think that no matter who you are, you need to be trying to nuetralise their attacking threat before you can think about going forward yourselves.

Also, are they the greatest football team ever? I dont think so, you might, I'd argue that Real Madrid Galacticos were better with Zidane, Figo and Ronaldo. Maybe one day, but people are getting ahead of themselves over a team that pass and dive alot.

Too much of a tight cunt to support a Premier League side, Gillingham all the way.

Aha, Barton for England anyone?

One fault with that little speech though, Nolan's been better this season, although they've both been great.

What does being a tight cunt have or not have to do with supporting a PL team?

I'm hardly a 'tight cunt' as you so kindly put it. Unless you count spending over hundreds (and I mean hundreds) over the past season, and for several years watching my team up and down the country as being a 'tight cunt'.

Football culture is not like sports in the states, we follow our teams up and down the country. Whether it be Manchester United, Nottingham Forest, Yeovil, Swindon, Dover or Crawley Town, the proper fans will be attend several matches over a season.

There there my dear fellow, I am an Englishman, I called myself the tight cunt

Me said:

It's a joke that I am not willing to splash out the money on a Premier League team, so I support a side that doesnt have a hope in hell of getting there (Gillingham). Although it's spoiled now.

I also agree that real fans follow their teams up and down the country, where they are capable of course, many teams real fans come through when they drop or suffer, just look at Newcastle, or Man United in the old 2nd Division. Of course not all can make it, money's tight or they just dont have the time, I dont think these people should be labelled as "not real fans" however.

Most casual armchair supporters will label themselves as just that you'll find.

You know, as a Celtic supporter, last night must have been a heavy cross to bare.

But as I watched the game play out it's final moments, I felt literally nothing. It seems that Celtic have come down with the same syndrome as Arsenal and have choked when the ball was in their court. And it is not something that has sprung up on us. The fact of the matter is that Celtic are not performing to the best of their ability. Fraser Forster, a man who has had a decent enough season, really struggled last night and the defence looked like amateurs. For that reason, I wasn't surprised, disappointed or upset that we have handed the ball back to Rangers.

Rangers, love them or hate them, have been the more consistent team this season and that cannot be good enough from Celtic. Celtic look like world-beaters one game and then in the very next match, they are going to down to a team that is struggling finish in the top half of the table. To me, Celtic lack the consistency of Rangers and I have no idea what they can do to fix it.

Yesterday was just another case of us shooting ourselves in the foot at every obstacle seemingly.

Another reason that I didn't feel much was because neither team look as though they are going to see out the rest of their games without a defeat. Celtic have two away games and one at home, whilst Rangers have the opposite (I believe). However, both teams have a hard test against Hearts to come and I just don't see both of them coming away with the three points.

Maybe I will get more immersed in the league title chase in a couple more matches, if we are still involved but I seriously doubt it with last night's performance.

Well the seasons over and all that, and in a season that promised epic surprises we got, well, one really. Birminghams Carling Cup win and then relegation to the Championship. Blackpool went down like most thought they would, West Ham went down like most agreed they would when Avram Grant took over, Manchester United won the league, Manchester City qualified for the Champions League, Liverpool missed out on Europe as most thought they would, Aston Villa made a top ten finish and Chelsea sacked another manager. Business as usual then. At least the journey to the end was entertaining and the relegation battle (West Ham aside) kept us guessing right until the end.

With the league out of the way that leaves only one thing, the Champions League final between Barcelona and Manchester United. The smart moneys on Barcelona, but they're not exactly unbeatable, Arsenal have done them over once and it was only really an extremely debatable red card each that cost either Arsenal or Madrid a very good chance of beating them.

A lot of questions will be answered, will United learn from last time? Will Barcelona get all the favourable decisions? Will someone (most likely a United player) get sent off? Will Barcelona just maul them again? I am actually excited. Shame City are involved next year.

At least the journey to the end was entertaining and the relegation battle (West Ham aside) kept us guessing right until the end.

I definitely agree with this. Personally, I feel it was one of the more exciting premier league seasons, mostly because of how close the league was. The quality of the top teams came down this season (Utd and Chelsea), whilst the quality of the bottom teams seemed to improve (West Ham excluded), hence why 40 points were required for safety this year. If you look at the final table, there was only 10 points between Fulham in 8th and Blackpool in 19th. Crazy. The final day relegation battle was indeed fantastic, and then I had the bonus of watching Utd officially crowned 19 time champions. Good stuff.

It's a shame to see Blackpool go down, as they added so much fun to the premier league this season. Hopefully they'll be able to keep their squad together and come straight back up. I'm also glad Fulham were able to snatch a europa league place through the fair play system. I followed their entire run a couple of years ago, and hope they can go one better this time. Also, it will be very strange to see Birmingham in europe next season. It will be very interesting to see how a championship team fares in the europa league.

On to the champions league final and I'm more hopeful than confident, but I think we certainly have a chance. The main difference between now and two years ago is that Ronaldo is out and Valencia is in. That is great for Utd as Valencia won't stop running all night and, with Park on the other flank, we'll cause a lot more problems for Barcelona than we did two years ago. I'm also expecting Chicharito to start, who will also leave everything on the pitch. The best way to stop this Barca team is through pure work-rate, something this Man Utd team has in abundance. I'm really looking forward to the game and, win or lose, we'll definitely give them a better game than two years ago.

Champions League - I think Barcelona will win this time around, Man Utd haven't been great away from Old Trafford this season and they have already lost at Wembley in the FA Cup and if you compare Barcelona and Utd's Midfield area then there is a huge gulf in quality and that's where the game will be won for Barca

Championship Playoff's - I hope Swansea win this against Reading, they will fill in the void that Blackpool have left since they also play very attractive football but Reading have been in very good form so they could cause an upet so for me Head says Swansea but heart says Reading

Summer Transfers so Far

James Vaughan, Everton to Norwich - not exacly the most prolific striker out there, only scored 9 goals in 30 games for a struggling Crystal Palace team during his loan term there last season it's a gamble from Paul Lambert

Nigel Reo-Coker, Released from Aston Villa - shocked when I saw this news Reo-Coker is a very good player and I don't understand what Houllier and Co are thinking, there are going to be alot of premier league clubs going after this player

John Carew, Released from Aston Villa - This lad can be a very good player when he wants to be but he's so lazy it's unbeliviable, I can see hiom moveing away from England

Robert Pires, Released from Aston Villa - Time to hang up the boots son

Swansea 4-2 Reading Full Time
Swansea are Promoted to the Premier League

Great match, it looked to be all over by half time with Swansea 3-0 up but Reading came back into in the second half and was 3-2 10 minutes after the second half kicked off and then minutes later they hit the post and had a shot at an open goal blocked, but then suicidal defending by Reading gave Swansea a penalty which was converted by hat-trick hero Scott Sinclair

But this result is good news for the Premier League, everybody including myself was saying it was such a shame for the premier league to lose Blackpool but Swansea play the same style of football and they look more tidy at the back (apart from today) which was Blackpool's downfall last season

Good match actually, I suppose its good for a welsh side to play in the Premier League, I remember Bellamy saying that he could do more for Wales by getting Cardiff promoted than he could playing a hundred games for Wales. Not the outcome he expected eh? Well, he's a bellend anyway.

I'll admit to being genuinely impressed with Norwich's back to back promotions as well, and theres also a team that isnt afraid to go at it. I always think that a manager who does something like that should never have to worry about job security again, so he'll probably get sacked next season.

Well I was going to make a summer transfer thread; but seeing as there is a football thread here, might as well start some discussion in it. To the surprise of noone, Arsene Wenger has signed a little known foreign central defender for peanuts, a fellow by the name of Carl Jenkinson, who is apparently Finnish. Takes all sorts I suppose.

The big story that broke at the beginning of the day was Liverpool continuing their drive to buy young, massively overpriced English players with the £20 million probable signing of Jordan Henderson. This I feel could go either way: if he has been bought as a central midfielder, then one must question Dalglish's logic as the one area that Liverpool are stacked in central midfielder; however in my opinion he'll be deployed as chief-get-it-on-the-head-of-Andy-Caroll-player, much in the same way as Joey Barton did at Newcastle when Carroll was there. I must confess, from what I have seen of Henderson (admittedly not a lot) he doesn't look worth £20 million (or £13 million and David N'gog, if you want to get technical) and in my opinion Sunderland have got the better deal here by far, particularly if they manage to get the three United players they have put in a bid for (Wes Brown, Darron Gibson and someone else, probably Danny Welbeck).

The other mover of the day is the young, English but not as overpriced Phil Jones, apparently moving to United from Blackburn for between £15-£17 million, depending on who you believe. Again this is a peculiar one, because central defence is an area that is pretty stacked at United, so I see Jones fulfilling a very versatile role, perhaps 'doing a Hragreaves' which United have been lacking recent years. By the same token, I could see Ferguson loaning him back to Blackburn for a season, much in the same way as he did with Chris Smalling and Fulham.

Oh, and Aston Villa have made contact with Rafa Benitez about being their new manager.

So yeah, what are your thoughts on these transfer dealings and any other potential moves that have been discussed?

Yeah, Henderson was pretty overpriced however I assume Liverpool didn't want to delay and considering how vital he was to Sunderland last season, I don't think Sunderland would've accepted any less to be honest.

I thought Benitez is too smug and overrated to be linked with a club like Villa but considering how bad things were at Inter, I don't think he exactly deserves to be linked with the heights of Real Madrid or Chelsea etc.

Phil Jones is one for the future, good signing but overpriced at £15-£17 million IMO. I've heard also that Johnny Evans may be permenantly switching to left back so that opens up a spot for him at centre back.

Despite what Wenger said about spending money this transfer window, I still feel that there won't be any drastic changes at the Emirates.

These are just rumors but I really hope Chelsea sign Neymar (me being a Chelsea fan obviously). The Brazilian has great potential and is very, very skillful.

Jenkinson, Charlton - Arsenal: If this signing policy of signing youngsters continues during the summer that please Arsenal get Wenger out now, Arsenal's first proity's should to get a new Goalkeeper in and then a strong central defender and then a leader, they don't need any more youngsters!

Morison, Milwall - Norwich: Good signing for Norwich he has a proven goal-scoring record in the Championship and I've seen him a couple of times last season and I think he will OK in the Premier League.

Jones, Blackcurn - Man Utd: Haven't seen this lad play yet as he only made his debut in March but I think it is a strange one, I can see him being loaned back out to be honest unless Fergie is starting to lose trust in Ferdinand

Rumour, Henderson, Sunderland - Liverpool, I'm still a bit unsure about Henderson, he has looked good for Sunderland for this season but I think he did play poorly in his English debut, I think he'll eithier be a Massive Success or a Massive failure for Liverpool, but it is good to see Kenny & Liverpool showing some ambition to get back into the Top 4 so all the best to them

By nature of being English, young and talented, Henderson is not overpriced. Carroll was overpriced but he was Liverpools top summer target and they/we had the cash. But 20 million (13 mil plus Ngog) for Henderson is not a bad deal.

Firstly we get rid of Ngog who was never good enough for 5-7 mil which is a massive profit. Secondly we get another English player towards the quota of whatever the clubs need nowadays. And thirdly he will probably be a future England regular.

Apparently we are in for Wickham now, Enrique is practically a done deal by all accounts and Nzogbia will apparently turn us down. If Wickham is tied up, then I've heard we will go for European talent, Mata has been linked as had Hazard but we may lose out to CL teams on both counts.

As a Liverpool fan, I'm excited by what we are hearing.

I'm not surprised Jones is going to United for 15-18mil. More games, more money at the Old Toilet. Bigger risk in my eyes but it will probably come off.

City are going to spend a fortune. Arsenal and Chelsea need to revamp their squads and United need to replace the old guard. One of these teams probably will attempt to sign Wesley Sneijder and it would be a great deal. Newcastle and now Sunderland have money burning a hole in their pockets, I'm also intrigued by QPR, apparently a club backed by very rich people. They will try and spend their way out of relegation trouble.

And I dont think Rafa is going to Villa. He's too good for them but if he does, then expect him to be backed with cash.

Elmohamady, ENPPI - Sunderland: Had a good season with Sunderland last season while he was on a season-long loan there and I think it's a good signing, rumours are that Sunderland are also looking to make bids for Darren Gibson, John O'Shea, Wes Brown

Also Martin Jol is the new manager of Fulham which for Fulham is a fantastic appointment I think they will be in the top 10 again this season and Roberto Martinez looks set to become the new Villa manager which is a bizzare appointment for Villa, Martinez has had 2 seasons with Wigan and both seasons he's been in a relegation battle and I think that if Martinez does goto Villa then AV will be dragged down into a relegation battle next season

Roberto Martinez looks set to become the new Villa manager

I've been hearing about this all day, it would be a mistake from Aston Villa's perspective. They want to challenge for Europe yet they want to appoint a manager who's been battling relegation since coming to the Premiership. I can see the reasons why they want to appoint him but there are so many more reasons not to as well.

umm arriba el America!!!!!!!!!! :) ;)

BTW i can't believe there arent a lot of football (or soccer) threads

WZ Forums does seem to have a very limited football/soccer fanbase, which is suprising considering how many British & European people use this forum

Anyway Roberto Martinez has declined the Villa job so they dodged a bullet there I belive which means the following people have denied wanting to manage Villa, Carlo Ancelotti, Mark Hughes, Roberto Martinez, Steve Mclaren and Rafa Beniez which is quite a list but there are still plenty of decent options out there I belive, Roberto Di Matteo who I think was treated very harshley by West Brom, Chris Hughton who was also treated very harshley but by Mad Mike Ashley at Newcastle and Gianfranco Zola who I think is a good manager but was a little unlucky in his last season there, but if there willing to splash the cash on a new manager then maybe look at Ian Holloway from Blackpool although that would be a bit of a gamble it would be great to see him back in the Premier League or Sven Goran Ericksson from Leicester, I remember him back when he was Man City manager before the Arab money came in and he did a fantastic nob with an average squad and got them into 6'th place I think and I still think he can do a decent job in the Premier League

And to get this thread going I got a question, what was the best game of last season , doesn't matter what league or competition just would like to hear everybody's veiws

For me it is the Wigan 3-2 West Ham, it was like a basketball game with one team attacking one end and then other team attacking the other it was crazy and it had the plane that flew over the JJB flying a banner saying "Avram Grant - Millwall Legend" that mad me chuckle, the Newcastle 4-4 Arsenal is a close second and 3'rd is Barcelona 5-0 Real Madrid

Best game, easily 4-4. I was there.

Newcastle United have officially made their first signing and that goes to former Lille player and current French midfielder Yohan Cabaye for a reported £4.6million.

He's 25 and a was a key member of the Lille team that won the league in France this year. I must say from what I've heard/seen of this player he's pretty good and definitely the sort of player who'd fit in at St James' Park. We're also interested in Gervinho of the same club (who Arsenal and Liverpool are also after) who is 24 and scored 25 goals in 54 appearances for Lille. We're also after Neil Taylor who's a left back at Swansea, though that could prove a headache with back up right back Ryan Taylor and centre back Steven taylor making a possible three out of four Taylors in defence!
