The Celebrity Wing

Everyone's always talking about how the celebrity wing of the WWE Hall of Fame is a joke. That it is! Totally agree. But, what if we add some serious celebs that actually had an impact on the business, good or bad. If so, who would you pick and why?

Mike Tyson - without Iron Mike, WM XIV would have an ok main event. But just think, w/o him, the Attitude Era wouldn't have taken off as quick. He helped the feud of Austin vs HBK, and brought more attitude to the product. Not to mention his epic tag team match back a couple years ago, where he knocked the hell outta Chris Jericho!

So, who would you pick and why? SHOOOOOOT!

I seriously think people take the Hall of Fame a bit too seriously. When Drew Carey was announced as an inductee I laughed and thought it was brilliant, went onto a forum and there was a dude threatening to kill WWE's staff for allowing him in before Ali, Mr. T and Mike Tyson.

I don't care which celebrity gets inducted. Who cares? Obviously Cyndi Lauper would be one who has more than a decent arguement to be inducted due to her appearences during the Rock 'n' Wrestling Connection. Muhammed Ali is another, he was featured in the first WrestleMania and although didn't have a major role in the event he still got a lot of publicity for it, more-so than Drew Carey or others in the Celebrity Hall of Fame.

Mr. T is the obvious choice everyone would pick. Not only did he feature at two WrestleMania's but he showed an actual support for the product at the time and regularly endorsed it. His matches with Piper and his back-and-forth arguements are still famous, added to the fact they really didn't like one another.

Andy Kaufman could be given a Posthumous Induction I feel. He didn't do anything for WWE, but neither did Abdullah The Butcher. Kaufman was one of the first celebrities to ever actually show professional wrestling in such a mainstream serious manner. His confrontation with Jerry Lawler was genuinely a huge thing around that time in mainstream America. That dude even had an impact on the business.

Without a doubt, Donald Trump could have his own wing within the Celebrity Wing of the WWE Hall of Fame.

Donald Trump's is a well known wrestling fan & personal friend of Vince McMahon. He hosted both WrestleMania IV and WrestleMania V.

At WrestleMania 23, Donal Trump was in the corner of Bobby Lashley, as Lashley faced Umaga in a hair versus hair match, which ended in Lashley, & Trump shaving Vince McMahon's head.

In 2009, Donald Trump "purchased" Monday Night Raw from Vince McMahon, aired a commercial-free episode, as well as refunded the money ofthe people who purchased tickets to the arena for that night's show.

There is no one currently in the Celebrity Wing of the Hall of Fame that has the wrestling resume that Donald Trump possesses, nor will there be in the near future.

I can think of three celebrities that need to be inducted sooner rather than later:

1. Muhammad Ali. This is really a no brainer. Not only did Ali get involved at Wrestlemania, he also WRESTLED a few times against some of the biggest names in the business. Now, I suspect that the reason Ali is not in the WWE Hall of Fame is probably medical. Because of his Parkinsons, he may feel that he is not capable of getting up on stage anymore, and doesn't want to be seen that way. I cannot believe that Vince McMahon has never made the offer before, I suspect that the ball is entirely in Ali's court. I think what we will probably see is a posthumous induction, with the speech given by his daughter Laila.

2. Donald Trump. This one also seems like a complete no-brainer. The relationship between the WWE, Vince McMahon and Donald Trump really doesn't need explanation.

3. This one is the biggest omission, at least for me. Andy Kaufman. His work with Jerry Lawler is one of the all-time greatest wrestling feuds. The fact that the Letterman slap was a total work was kept secret for over 20 years, until Lawler finally fessed up. Kaufman's reign as the Inter-gender wrestling champion of the world, where he would wrestle women was brilliant. Truth be told, for the relatively short time he was involved, Andy Kaufman was probably one of the greatest heels in wrestling. His promos were spot on, he knew how to draw heat, he knew how to work a crowd.

In short, Andy Kaufman "got" the wrestling business.

My personal pick is Mr. T. He was in the main event of mania 1. Had a great feud with Piper, and had a boxing match at mania 2 with Piper. He contributed quite a bit, and showed interest in the sport. Andy Kaufman is also one that should be in.

Funny, because I just recently watched a Legends of Wrestling about this. Anyway, I agree with those above me.

Mr. T should be in the Hall of Fame due to his contributions at the WM I and WM II.

Muhammad Ali is also a great contender for a Hall of Fame induction. He is one of the few celebrities that understands the wrestling business. He's gotten in the ring with Gorilla Monsoon, and was the enforcer to the Main Event at WM I. I think he'd be a great addition and a familiar face.

Cyndi Lauper would be nice to add in, as she also contributed with Smoky (or Rocky, can't remember) Mountain Wrestling and featured Captain Lou Albano in a few of her videos.

Freddie Prince Jr hands down...he has been a writer 4 the last 10 yrs or so....all the story lines 4 the past 10 yrs came from him as head writer so y not him????

You summed everything up quite nicely.

And we really shouldn't take the Hall of Fame so seriously. It's just another WWE event they have to sell tickets for, that's it.

Ok, so aside from Pete Rose being a good sport in wanting to work with Kane, I'll let him go in for that, but there should only be one other person in the celebrity wing with him and he's already there. Mr. Baseball Bob Uecker is just awesome. I love his commentary and for it, he should be there.

I think that band that accompanied the Nation of Domination at Wrestlemania 13 should be inducted. That powerbomb inflicted by Ahmed Johnson was epic. Yea, but seriously the Hall of Fame is for money like everything else in the WWE.

Pete Rose would make a good inductee though.

Celebrities should not be allowed into the hall of fame, having celebrities in the hall of fame i think it totally takes away the meaning of the hall of fame and who deserves to be inducted into the hall of fame.It makes a mockery of the hall of fame in my opinion, but that is unless it is a celebrity like mike tyson who was a big part of the attitude era and created some amazing wrestling memories

I am tipping this year's Celebrity induction into the WWE HoF.

Now, I tip this, because WM29 is held in New Jersey this year, so this person would be a suitable induction, since his venue hosted the last two Wrestlemanias in New Jersey. Also, since New York is nearby, and this person is a prominent New Yorker. He has also appeared at Wrestlemania three times, twice in the audience, since his building hosted the shows, and also at another Wrestlemania as well.

This man would not only get buzz all over the mainstream media for his induction, but also has a good working relationship with WWE.

The person I am talking about is- DONALD J. TRUMP!

Donald Trump will go in the Hall sooner rather than later, is more deserving than someone like Drew Carey, and because of this year's location, it couldn't be any better timing.

The WWE could give back to Trump by promoting his show "Celebrity Apprentice", since it will probably be screening at that stage (but the filming would slready have wrapped up, making Trump available), and running ads for it during WWE programming, leading up to it.

No matter what you think of Trump himself, or the Celebrity wing of the HoF (which I thought was only a way to get Pete Rose into a Hall Of Fame of some description), Donald Trump is worthy of induction, and this year is as good a time as any.

CYNDI LAUPER: hands down is the most glaringly obvious ommisson form the celebrity wing. Her Rock n Wrestling connection in 1984 led WWF and MTV uniting to beocme the powerhouse that WWF became in the 80s. Managing Wendi Ricjter to 2 WWF Womens titles, she is forever remembered for the impact rock n roll had on pro wrestling in the mid 80s. And with this years HOF ceremony at MSG, Lauper has to be hands down the favourite to be inducted.

MR.T: Competed in the main event of the first Mania and headlined the first portion of Mania 2. Again a massive ommission currently from the celebrity wing, I can only guess his friendship with Hulk Hogan or him actually not wanting to be inducted is the only reason he isnt in.

Until this pair are inducted, the HOF will continue to be looked at as a joke, like it is not having Sammartino, Backlund, Saavage and Warrior in the real part of the a HOF.

PETE ROSE was inducted in 2004, the first to go in the celebrity wing and the reason Bob Backlund rescinded on the deal to be inducted in the Class of 2004

I'm surprised no one has brought this name up ...... David Arquette! Sure he made the wcw title a joke but he made history right? Thoughts?
