the best ppv ever wwe

tripleddd

Pre-Show Stalwart
well here we go - it could bring hundreds but for me BACKLASH 2000 - THe rock beating Triple H to get the wwe title Austin in his corner after blowing up the DX express - priceless - the best ever- it had it all story content result

I have got to say that it is wrestlemania 17. Obviously I believe the build around rock austin was incredible and the story telling with Austins turn to the dark side was amazing, but even when you look at the rest of the card there were some really good matches in there as well. benoit angle was such a great technical match, and of course the big tlc match was amazing, with jeff hardy's swanton bomb to rhino and spike off the ladder through the tables being one of the maddest thngs i have ever seen. Even the theme music was probably the best ever, with limp bizkit's my way suiting the big feud and the whole event perfectly, plus we had good ol' JR and paul E. calling it, a great commentary pairing.
Wrestlemania 17 had it all and more.

Vinnie Mac makes a lot of good points and WMX7 was a great ppv but I rank it as number 2. The best ppv of all time, IMO, is Summerslam 1992. Very unique, never seen anything like that or seen it since. It had the big ppv feel, a great crowd, 2 face vs face matchs and a heel vs heel match. Money Inc/LOD was pretty good, Savage/Warrior with Flair/Perfect had the perfect build and was a very good match, Bret vs Bulldog is the greatest match ever.
Honorable mentions go to Wrestlemania 8, Canadian Stampede 1997, and Summerslam 1991.

Summerslam 1992!

Bulldog/Bret stole the show.. and the Savage/Warrior match was great along with the storyline where Ric flair would "be in someones corner" in that match.

The whole atmosphere of that ppv was awesome

You're not gonna get any arguments from me about Wrestlemania X-7 and Summerslam 1992 about being the best WWE ppv events ever. Wrestlemania X-7 for me is the best ever, and Summerslam 1992 could be in the top 5.

I'd like to throw out a couple of other ppv events that haven't been mentioned yet that should definitely be considered amongst the greatest WWE ppv events ever.

Survivor Series 1990

This is probably my all-time favorite Survivor Series ppv, and a ppv that wasn't necessarily highlighted by any five star, classic matches, but just an overall enjoyable show with great booking and flow, entertaining matches and important, memorable moments. All of the major feuds taking place in 1990 were highlighted in the elimination matches. You had the feuds of Demolition and LOD, plus the double feud of Warrior/Texas Tornado and Mr. Perfect highlighted in the first match. The feud between the Million Dollar Man and Dusty Rhodes in the second match. The feud between Jake Roberts and Rick Martel plus the Rockers and Power and Glory. And of course Hogan/Tugboat against Earthquake and The Big Boss Man and the Heenan family. Plus this event in the only time in the event's history had a final Survivor Series elimination match in which the winners of each match fought in one last elimination match to determine the ultimate survivors. This was something I wish they had done for the other Survivor Series events, but future ones would be highlighted more by regular one on one matches than than Survivor Elimination matches. As far as important moments, this event was the real beginning showcase for what would come in the 1990's WWF. How so? Simple. First, you have the debut of the Undertaker who dominated in the elimination match destroying Koko B. Ware, and forcing the legendary Dusty Rhodes out of the match with their double countout. Ironically this gave way to the rise of one of the other top stars of the '90s, Bret Hart. The conclusion of this match was basically a 10 minute singles match between Bret Hart and Ted Dibiase which was the first showcase on a major ppv event of the potential of Bret Hart's singles career and he looked great. So not only was this a very entertaining and well booked ppv event, it was also important on the history of the WWE. Also Gorilla Monsoon and Roddy Piper provided some great commentary.

Summerslam 1997

This was along with Summerslam 1992 and Summerslam 2002 (more on that later) the greatest Summerslam event ever. You had two phenomenal matches in Mankind and Triple H in the Steel Cage, Undertaker and Bret Hart in the best match they ever had, with Shawn Michaels involved as well (has there ever been a greatest special guest referee than Shawn Michaels as we saw in this match as well as the Hell in a Cell match at Wrestlemania last month?). Then good solid matches between Brian Pillman/Goldust, British Bulldog/Ken Shamrock, and of course Stone Cold Steve Austin and Owen Hart, matches that all had great buildup and delivered in the ring as well. This show was dominated by the Hart Foundation/top American faces feud of that year, and it made for a great show where almost every match on the card was important and meant something.

Wrestlemania XIV

The "official" launch of the Attitude Era, this was an event that not only was historically significant, provided some classic matches (Taker/Kane, HBK/Stone Cold), some solid matches (Triple H/Owen Hart, Rock/Shamrock), but also just had a great atmosphere, not only for the fans there, but the fans watching. You just felt that this event was truly the beginning of a new era like things were never gonna be the same. Very few ppv events in the history of the company have felt like that. This one brought that feeling in spades.

Summerslam 2002

This is the greatest Summerslam event of all-time. While it didn't have the mood and atmosphere and epic feeling of Summerslam 1992 (which is still the best "looking" ppv event ever in the WWE), match for match it was far better. Summerslam 1992 gave us Bulldog/Bret and Savage/Warrior, but that was it. Summerslam 2002 gave us quite possibly the greatest opening match in WWE history (besides Wrestlemania X) with Kurt Angle/Rey Mysterio, three very good matches in Jericho/Flair, Benoit/RVD, and Edge/Guerrero, an extremely significant and hyped main event match between the Rock and Brock Lesnar, and another one of the greatest matches in WWE history between Triple H and Shawn Michaels, his first match in over four years. This is by far the most consistent ppv event in the history of the WWE. Easily a top 5 ppv.

WWE Money in the Bank 2011

The greatest WWE ppv event of the "PG Era," this is another one of the most consistent ppv events. You had a fantastic match between Randy Orton and Christian, a solid, good "big man" match between the Big Show and Mark Henry, two phenomenal Money in the Bank Ladder Matches, and besides the Taker/HHH/HBK matches at the last few Wrestlemanias, the best WWE match in the last 5 years, CM Punk and John Cena. Watching CM Punk and John Cena fighting is like watching Batman and Superman fighting, that's the kind of dynamic they have, and to me, they are the Savage/Hogan of this era. Except for these two put on 10X the match that Hogan and Savage ever did. This ppv should easily be in the discussion for the best WWE event ever.

Honorable Mentions: Wrestlemania III, Royal Rumble 1992, King of the Ring 1993, Wrestlemania X, Summerslam 1995, Fully Loaded 2000, Survivor Series 2002, WWE's ECW One Night Stand (2005), No Way Out 2006, One Night Stand 2008

For me I think it has to be a "surprising" end to go with the greatness of the event or whatever.

To that end ... It has to be WrestleMania 17. Having Austin take the help from McMahon to defeat The Rock was shocking ... an ending to a FANTASTIC PPV ... and a FANTASTIC match.

I know that everyone LOVES this event ... so I am not unique or whatever. But I am not trying to be unique ... I am trying to be right :) ... WM 17 was pretty much perfect front to back.
