The best....Mario?

The Best At Everything I Do
Pretty simple here. List your favorite/s and why. My two personal favorites are Super Mario World for SNES and of course Mario64 for N64.

I felt SMW took it to the next level. Great graphics for the times and sooo many secrets and paths to take in the world map its sick I found them all at age 7!

Mario64 basically was and is the next generation of Mario games. Mario Galaxy which came out for WII works on that same engine. And I feel from now on Mario games should stay that way.

So everyone....which are your fav's?

I like the original Mario game the best. The game is so much fun due to simpleness. Its always fun to go back to the basics. I often get my mates and we play the game for hours.

SM64 is not fit to lace up the boots for Galaxy. Ignore the fact that 64 revolutionised 3D gaming, then what do you have? Something that this day that looks very blocky and something that has the most annoying camera for any game what so ever. Galaxy looks smooth, and I think it will stand the test of time visually which 64 has not. The controls are pretty simple and the mix of 3D and 2D works so well together as well as the nods to previous Mario games such as the air ships Super Mario Galaxy is easily the best of the 3D mario games.

If we're going for 2D it would have to be SMB3, this game is brilliant, SMW essentially took the idea of the maps and secrets and built on it but when you consider the jump from 2 to 3 as opposed to 3 to world then you'll understand why 3 is better. It is also one of the harder Mario games, a full classic.

I have to agree with you Lee. Super Mario Bros. 3 is definitely the best Mario game that has been created. I personally think that Mario worked better when it was in 2D. Mario was never really a big thing for me when I was younger. Sure, I played them often enough and enjoyed it but I never thought that they were anything special. However, when I go back and play games like Mario, like Sonic and especially like Crash Bandicoot, I realise that they really were special games. Super Mario Bros. 3 is one of those games that is really spectacular. I recently went back and played some of the games from my childhood and Super Mario Bros. 3 was one of them. I enjoyed it immensely.

I am not one of the people that think that Mario has sucked since it moved to 3D and onto the Wii. Galaxy was fine. Not wonderful but good enough. However, the 3D games have not been a patch on the 2D games. Well, that's my view anyway.

MarioKart64

Bite me, Lee...I expect the red rep already. I consider all of the games to be in a close tie with eachother, except for Paper Mario. But, if I were forced to pick one, and only one, to play nonstop, MarioKart64 wins.

The multi-player aspect helps, and it has tons of replay potential. I got bored of the others after a while, and had to put them aside to keep them fun.

The best Mario games are Super Mario World on the SNES and Super Mario Bros 3 on the NES. I have a different reason for each of them.

Super Mario World was the first game I ever truly "owned", I grew up with it and it has a special place in my memories for that reason. I could be having the worst day of my life, and odds are that an hour or two of Super Mario World will get me in a little better of a mood, just for the nostalgia.

Then there's Super Mario Bros 3 on the NES. For years it was the best selling video game of all time, I believe it still is. It was so innovative for its time. All the weird costumes and abilities, the world map.... so great for its time. In gameplay value it trumps all other Mario games.
