Supplemental Draft 2008 Impact

Shock

Resident sig maker and TNA mark
To the best of my knowledge, there isn't a thread about this (I did look). Now, my question. Who do you think made the most impact out of everyone who was drafted in the 2008 Supplemental Draft? Who has really risen to the occasion and made the biggest impact in their new brand?

Now, I would like to say The Brian Kendrick, but in my opinion, Mark Henry has made the biggest impact. One, they brought out a new belt when he became champion. That's pretty big. Two, because of his story line, he brought a big (literally and figuratively) legend back to the WWE. Although, I wish Tony Atlas would wrestle again. And third, storylines and other things have come off of him. The Live Dirt Sheet started because of his title match. The short Delaney vs Dreamer storyline came from him. And now Matt Hardy is going for world title gold. So, Mark Henry: big impact.

The supplemental draft was pretty successful this year, and has helped rejuvenate the brands. But as far as iMPACT goes, The Brian Kendrick is the big winner here. Do I really have to go into yet another TBK shill post? I think not. Just watch Friday's SmackDown dude. Become a believer.

He didn't exactly make an "iMPACT", but Kofi Kingston sure benefitted tremendously from being drafted. A pretty good first run with the Intercontinental title, especially considering how little time he's been in WWE and I think Kofi will Jamaic us Crazy for the foreseeable future.

Mark Henry hasn't made much of an iMPACT. Sure, he won a championship, but brought the same boring stuff he's always brought to it. Didn't help anyone. The reign feels more like a bonus for him having stayed so long with WWE (and done JACK SHIT) than a reward for actual talent. A championship win alone doesn't make an iMPACT. By the way, how are you liking all the random typesetting of iMPACT?

Takerrulez, you're confusing the Supplemental Draft, with Draft night. The Supplemental Draft was after Draft night on Raw. This thread is to talk about the Supplemental Draft moves. Here's a link to help you:

I'd have to say that Mark Henry has made a tremendous impact. He won the ECW title, and has proceeded to reign over ECW, spiking ratings in the process. We're talking about a 1.5 now compared to the 1.2 before. Not only that, he's a believable bad ass worker, and while I haven't seen as much as I should of ECW, I do remember how good a heel Henry was there for a while on Smackdown last year.

Brian Kendrick and Mark Henry both have made huge impacts since the draft, but i would like to argue Shelton Benjamins case. He has become the US Champion, embroiled himself into the title picture on smackdown, and has been having great matches on a weekly basis with Hardy and MVP and Triple H. He may not have made as big of an impact as Mark Henry, but i would argue he has made a bigger impact than Brian Kendrick.

Well, you can rule out Trevor Murdoch, Big Daddy V, Deuce, DH Smith, Carlito, Chuck Palumbo, and Matt Striker, as they've either been released, haven't shown up yet, or in the case of Striker, got squashed and then moved to a commentator job, which he would've done if he was on any brand most likely, not just by shifting to Raw.

Layla, Hornswoggle, Maria, and Jamie Noble haven't really done anything. You could throw Super Crazy in here too, but oddly enough, he's being pushed. Though, really, that's more of a benefit of the massive release days rather than actually being a member of two different rosters.

Finlay was pretty much in the same spot, with the Talent Exchange allowing him to wrestle on both shows. So he doesn't change. Same goes for Shelton, though Shelton's had a massive push since then.

That leaves us with the three big winners: Kofi Kingston, Mark Henry, and The Brian Kendrick.

Now, since Brian Kendrick is more about simply being pushed rather than just being on a different roster, its tricky. The draft gave him a vehicle, but you could make the case that he probably would've been able to become a midcard heel on Raw under the same circumstances. Maybe not as solid, but if they wanted to push him, they could've done it on Raw. Still, he's a winner, and he's impacted Smackdown by making it that much more entertaining. So I'd keep him in there.

Kofi wins the IC title on Raw his first night. That's a big notch. He definitely has had an impact, in that he's basically all that the midcard on Raw has.

But the true winner: Mark Henry. This guy went from having made a career out of being a "jobber to the stars" to winning the ECW title and being actually pushed as a legitimate champ. That is, until they decided that he can't even beat Dreamer without Delaney's help, and can't last 5 seconds with Matt Hardy. Ridiculous. But Henry still has upgraded himself to a vast degree having moved to ECW, where he can be a big fish in a small pond rather than just an overlooked oil stain in the ocean.
