Strikeforce Heavyweight Grand Prix

It would have finished in December but Daniel Cormier (one of the final participants) broke his hand in his semi-final fight, so the fight's been pushed back until he's 100% and can have a full training camp.

The thing has been a joke since it was announced. I'm excited for the final because both guys are great, exciting fighters, but the GP as a whole is a giant joke.

Eh, the GP started out alright because it appeared SF knew what they were doing, but I do agree that it turned into a massive joke really fast after that. I'm just ready for it to be over and to see the UFC overhaul of those relatively good fighters who are left in SF.

It lost any credibility it had when they announced Overeem would be participating.

Since the Heavyweight Grand Prix Started:

  • The UFC bought Strikeforce
  • Fedor got the shit beat out of him and went back to Russia, and is now crushing cans.
  • Brett Rogers went to jail
  • Overeem and Werdum had one of the worst fights in history.
  • Overeem got into a contract dispute and exiled out of Strikeforce.
  • Daniel Cormier, who is one of the finalists, wasn't in the tournament in the first place.
  • Strikeforce did away with the Heavyweight Division
  • Overeem retired Brock Lesnar and is now the #1 Contender to the UFC Heavyweight Championship.
