I'm really stunned that these threads have all become so fucking common.... So indulge me a minute as I say.....

It's not about what you do, but about the person you are. All that matters is being a good person in this world, and doing natural good for others. Share your gift with the world, and you could be an addict to 37 million drugs for all I care. Don't let the lifestyle change your perspective of a person, because he/sh'e just that.... a person....

You two are great. But the majority of straight edge people I've met in my life are fucking asshole pricks. The straight-edge scene in Boston specifically used to piss me off to no end, because they had fucking GANGS and shit and a whole movement of asshole who would literally come up to you at a show if they saw you drinking/smoking, knock your shit out of your hand, and fucking JUMP YOU for smoking or drinking. That's probably why I fucking despise that movement; I realize alot of you guys are cool and not like that at all. But the people I've encountered in the music scene specifically are among the biggest pieces of shit ever. Go to YouTube and look up "Boston Beatdown" and you'll see what I mean.

To be fair, what you're talking about is "Hardline", not "Straightedge". Hardline is like... the more extreme, radical, militant interpretation. I know most of us don't really draw the distinction, but there really is one. It's... I'm trying to think of an analogy. Maybe... the difference between your everyday Muslim, and a member of Al Qaida.

Not the best analogy, but the best I could come up with just now.

I thought being sXe is more than just not drinking, smoking, or doing drugs. I read into it as it being putting no foreign substance or toxins into the body and mind, to include religion, promiscuous sex, and more.

I for one don't smoke, don't drink, and don't do illegal or explicit drugs. I know I'm only 14 but I still never will do any of it. I don't think I'm better than anyone else for it, I just don't condone others doing it. But I have friends and family that smoke weed and have done coke, and I don't think of myself as any better, I just don't think they should do it.

Why do you think? It gives your body a feeling that nothing else can. Same reason you eat a favorite food or watch a favorite movie.

Well for myself... I believe that drugs & smoking are not a great thing to add in your life. The only substance that I think should be allowed, if I had to choose, would be marijuana. For myself, I dont smoke & I certainly dont do drugs... not even medication most of the time. The last time I took medication was anesthetic for my knee operation 4 years ago.

However, drinking is permitted on some level. It is a great way to enjoy the night or any special occasion. I come from a family of french people who will always drink an above-average amount during any gatherings. Wine mostly, with me hitting the spirits or maybe liquers depending whats available. I know my limits of drinking & I will stop at them. The only exception for me was when I went for a 3 day camping weekend with the mates. Since I knew we weren't going anywhere, I drank myself drunk. I dont drink a whole lot, but when I do I enjoy every sip.

DIdn't mean here but in general. What I meant was that people try to poke holes in the basic idea of being straight edge, like saying so and so is the same as a drug. Nitpicking I guess you would call it.
