The Man Called Sting made his first live appearance at a WWE event today at San Diego Comic-Con International 2014.

See Sting & Hogan's first Mattel photos!

Joining a panel co-hosted by WWE and Mattel, the face-painted WCW icon surprised a massive crowd in San Diego moments after the reveal of his first-ever WWE Mattel action figure. Sting then sat beside the likes of WWE Hall of Famer Hulk Hogan, former WWE World Heavyweight Champion Daniel Bryan, Paul Heyman, Michael Cole and Mattel brand managers for a brief visit with the WWE Universe and pop culture devotees in attendance.

Stay with WWE.com for exclusive video footage and photos of Stinger's surprise appearance alongside icons of WWE's past, present and future.

So, does this mean that they really are going for the whole media build-up approach, or will we only ever see Sting in an out of the ring role with the WWE. Thoughts on this development with Sting and the WWE?

I looked at that photo and thought "One of these things is not like the other. One of these things just doesn't belong" and it wasn't Daniel Bryan.

Makes sense to go this route.

I very much doubt that the core audience of children and generic family members who have become fans via said children will know who Sting is. Building through an event where only die-hard, hardcore fans are going to show up and recognise him and get that recognition and create a buzz about this guy is smart.

Will he wrestle? Not sure, but he looks like he could do a couple of bits and pieces.

Coming soon to FOX, a new sitcom from the creators that brought you Family Guy & Monday Night RAW. It's 2 Baldies, A Goat & The Crow. Tune in to this zany new comedy, right here on FOX.

The man behind ECW
The biggest star of WWF in the '80s
WCW's Icon
And one of the kings of the indies

All sharing the stage together and somehow the world didn't implode.

A WWE Guy, A WCW/TNA Guy, A ECW Guy, and A ROH Guy

NOTE: F4Wonline.com reports that Sting's appearance today was set up by Mattel, not 2K Sports or WWE.

Wasn't Warrior's work for 2K14 set up by 2K only shortly before he did put pen to paper and signed a legends contract and agree to the Hall of Fame? Seems like a gateway deal.
