Steam and none Steam products

So I've recently reinstalled Dragon Age: Origins with the idea of getting to play Awakening, because you need Origins to play Awakening.

My problem is that I have Origins in a physical DVD form, and it seems to have been installed correctly, and I've tried to transfer basically any form of a launch or .exe file to my list of steam games, in hope that Steam would see that I'm the owner of the game so that I can purchase Awakening.

Problem is it continues to tell me "Your transaction failed, because you tried to purchase a game that requires ownership of another game, that you do not currently own. Adjust the error and try again."

I tried to google how I could add it, and someone was talking about Steam not accepting specific serial codes, but I have my doubts that can be the reason cause it's a game you can purchase from steam.

Any ideas?

you should be able to register your cd key with Steam

Or better yet, just play Origins, because itis far better than Awakenings

Yeah I'm trying to register the CD key through steam too, says it's void.

And I wanna play Awakening, I have played origins
