Spin-Off Series

Getting Noticed By Management
http://firefox.org/news/articles/3200/1/LOST-Spin-off-confirmed-for-2012/Page1.html

I came across this while internet surfing. I was thrilled when I saw this. LOST became one of my favorite series a couple years ago. I tried watching the show when it first began but quite because it started to get hard to follow. But then I tried agian and got really into the series. I'm glad I did too. It was an awesome series. So when I found out they were doing a spin off series I was extremely happy and excited.

However with that being said I'm still finding mixed emotions with the potential spin off series. You have spin off's that work and those that don't. I don't want this to be one of those series that had a great ending then does a spin off or they try to bring the show back and it flops. Which happened to a couple of my favorite series. And I really wanted them to work. They were Friends and Scrubs. The shows were called Joey and Scrubs: The Interns. Both I felt were decent show. Maybe not at the level of the original but they were good shows. Then there was one show that I haven't gotten around to watching yet. It was Frasier which was a spin off of Cheers. This was hugely successful. So this is why I'm mixed on it.

I have a classic case of a spin off series suceeding with flying colors and another classic case of two series that flopped. I just don't know how I feel about spin off's yet. They can be good.

So with my explaination and all this being said here are the questions I want to ask.

What do you personally think about spin-off series?

If you like them what show's do want to see have a spin off series on?

If you don't like them explain why not? Then provide examples if possibly of why not? Doesn't have to be specific examples but just an explanation why not?

My series I want to see is LOST.Kind of a no brianer. I opened with this. Although I don't know how they would do it. In the original Series finale everybody was at the Church do to the fact they died. If they center the show around Sun and Jin like they say they are going to then that wouldn't make sense. Sun and Jin were at the Church to. Although Jack's father in the finale did say that some people died before Jack and some people died long after Jack. So I guess what would happen then is the show would be taking place in between Jack's death and before Sun and Jin passed away. I'm not sure.

Another is My Name Is Earl:I don't know why they replaced this with a different show. It was replaced with Parks and Reacreation(which isn't that good; In My Opinion). It should be either brought back and revived somehow so they can continue for another couple seasons and get a proper send off or get a spin off series. If they do the spin off they should have Earl already done with his list but now helping people fix their problems and help the solve past problems.

Scrubs:I know people will disagree with this but I don't think they gave this show a fair chance. Their ratings might not have been the best but they improved. After Zach officially left the show for real this time the ratings went down for a week. And the ratings started rising again. They were starting to get better ratings and develop the new cast when they cancelled. Should have given them another season at least to see how they do.

Boy Meets World:I know this is corny but this was one of my favorite shows growing up. After the series finale we never really found out what happened to everybody. Cory, Shawn, Topanga, and Eric went to New York, Angela went to Europe with her Dad, and the Mathew's family stayed where they were at. They could have done a spin off that lasted a few years. It could have included Cory, Shawn, and Topanga finishing College and graduating. They settle down in New York with new apartments maybe sort of like Friends and get apartments/rooms in the same building. Angela finishing school in Europe and coming back. Topanga and Shawn have a baby. Shawn and Angela have a baby. Eric stays single and becomes a model.:) And so on.

I'll come back with more if I think of anything else. But have fun and enjoy.

I almost can see a Hurley/Ben spin-off of LOST to how they worked the island after everyone left and what kind of problems they had but I really don't think it would go over very well. I can't see how they would build a show around two guys with a lot of humor and no action abilities. It seems like it would be the most obvious spin-off choice for that show.

I agree with you about Boy Meets World and I'm actually kind of surprised it hasn't happened. I'm sure they're all still quite anxious to separate themselves from the show as they haven't really accomplished that but I think it would be a hit.

As for one that I can think of on my own? Nothing really. I can't think of any show where a smaller character deserves a TV show all to themselves. There are characters that routinely steal the show but they only work because they are not the main character and are only seen in small doses.

I've always wished for a spin off series of NYPD Blue. Andy Sippowicz (sp?) was one of, if not THE greatest characters on television. Dennis Franz captured the essence of an alcoholic detective caught between the old school ways he was brought up with and the new PC ways of the force. The many tragedies in his life affected not only his general mood, but his daily struggle with sobriety. He lost two partners and a son, just to name a few, during the run of the series. There were many other great characters on the show, but a spin off involving Andy running his own department would be gold in my eyes. This thread just inspired me to start my own. Who was Andy's best partner on the series?
