Speculation Regarding the Death of Chris Benoit

For all the people speculating and not wanting to face facts, only a limited number of things can have happened here. Look at the information we have at the moment which seems to be fairly genuine.

benoit left to go home for a family emergency, so something was wrong at home

texts were sent to friends from benoit's phone

his son was found smothered in his bedroom and his wife strangeled in the office, benoit found hanging in the weight room

With this information, it is more than likely this was no accident and that there were only three people in the house. His son obviously is an innocent victim of what went on and as for people suggesting nancy was involved, it is almost certain nancy didn't kill chris as a) she was found strangled herself and b) I fail to see how nancy could overpower and fake a hanging of chris.

This leaves the only scenarios as either benoit killed his wife and son and killed himself

someone killed benoit's family and he killed himself upon discovering this

benoits wife killed their son, benoit killed her and hung himself

a professional killer murdered his wife and son during the night, overpowered chris and faked a hanging, sending texts to chavo etc at some point.

it sucks that Benoit did this. Like others, i do believe that he will pay the ultmate price for this for eternity. Now that we know what was used to kill them, the only thing left now is why. The only problem is that unless the text messages give us answers, there will be no way to know what really happened. Of course that is why we're speculating here. what if it turns out that woman had an affair seven yrs ago and daniel wasn't his kid??? what if woman was going to file divorce papers again and this time go through with it and have full custody of daniel??? what if, what if, but like i said, without the text msg or the toxicology report, we'll have no clue.

Pro wrestler Chris Benoit strangled his wife and smothered his son before hanging himself in his weight room, a law enforcement official close to the investigation told The Associated Press on Tuesday.

Authorities also said they are investigating whether steroids may have been a factor in the deaths of Benoit, his wife and their 7-year-old son. Steroid abuse has been linked to depression, paranoia, and aggressive behavior or angry outbursts known as "roid rage."

"We don't know yet. That's one of the things we'll be looking at," said Fayette County District Attorney Scott Ballard. He said test results may not be back for weeks.

Autopsies were scheduled Tuesday by the Georgia Bureau of Investigation.

Authorities were investigating the deaths at a secluded Fayette County home as a murder-suicide and were not seeking any suspects. The official who described the manner of death spoke on the condition of anonymity because the information was to be released at a news conference later Tuesday.

Investigators believe Benoit (pronounced ben-WAH) killed his wife, 43-year-old Nancy, and son Daniel during the weekend and then himself Monday. The bodies were found Monday afternoon in three separate rooms of the house, off a gravel road about two miles from the Whitewater Country Club.

Fayette County Coroner C.J. Mowell did not return calls seeking comment. The answering service for his funeral home said he was out of town.

Asked about the condition of the interior of the house, sheriff's Sgt. Keith Whiteside said investigators found "nothing really out of the ordinary." He said Benoit was found in the home's weight room, his wife in an office and the son in an upstairs bedroom.

Neighbors said the Benoits led a low-key lifestyle.

"We would see Chris walking in his yard from time to time. He wasn't rude, but he wasn't really outwardly warm," said Alaina Jones, who lives across the street.

Jimmy Baswell, who was Benoit's driver for more than five years, placed a white wreath at the Benoits' gate. "They always seemed like they were the happiest people," he said.

World Wrestling Entertainment (nyse: WWE - news - people ) said on its Web site that it asked authorities to check on Benoit and his family after being alerted by friends who received "several curious text messages sent by Benoit early Sunday morning."

The WWE, based in Stamford, Conn., said authorities asked that it not release further information on the deaths.

Benoit, born in Montreal, was a former world heavyweight champion, Intercontinental champion and held several tag-team titles. His names in the ring included "The Canadian Crippler."

"WWE extends its sincerest thoughts and prayers to the Benoit family's relatives and loved ones in this time of tragedy," the company said in a statement on its Web site.

"He was like a family member to me, and everyone in my family is taking it real hard," said fellow Canadian Bret Hart, a five-time champion with the World Wrestling Federation. The federation has since changed its name to World Wrestling Entertainment.

Benoit had maintained a home in metro Atlanta from the time he wrestled for the defunct World Championship Wrestling. The Fayette County Tax Assessors Office lists the value of the house, situated on more than 8.5 acres, at nearly $900,000.

The WWE canceled its live "Monday Night RAW" card in Corpus Christi, Texas, and USA Network aired a three-hour tribute to Benoit in place of the scheduled wrestling telecast.

Benoit's wife managed several wrestlers and went by the stage name "Woman." They met when her then-husband drew up a script that had them involved in a relationship as part of a story line on World Championship Wrestling, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported.

Benoit has two other children from a prior relationship.

I was one of the biggest Benoit fans there was. After reading what I have been reading, it makes me sick. What a piece of trash. They are calling it possible roid rage, no matter what it is there is NO reason for what happened to have happened. All my Chris Benoit memorbilia is in the trash, the DVD the shirts, last nights raw is off of my dvr and all memories of chris benoit will soon be forgotten. If his name ever comes up in a conversation again people should be ashamed of themselves.

I am very proud of the WWE for pulling all of there merchandise involving Chris Benoit.

I feel kinda bad for them cause they put all of that effort into last nights show to showcase a bonafide murderer and on top of that due to lack of details they had to pull the plug on pretty much everything they had going storylinewise.

I send my condolences out to the family of Nancy and everyone who cared for Daniel But I send out no symapthy to anyone who has any sympathy the Chris "The Canadian Murderer" benoit.

It's just disturbing that someone like Benoit could actually do this. I personally would think that steroids was an issue. Remember, that he took a sabbatical from wrestling to heal his shoulder injuries, and thought that taking steroids would help ease the pain and help him perform. Guess the side effects had its way with his state of mind. To notice waking up on that day to notice your wife and son are dead, and no one is responsible but yourself, so you can't live with yourself and decide to end your life. It's frightening and disturbing to say the least.

All I can say is that I hope the entire world of sports can see now that steroids is a major issue to athletes and should definetely consider how this should be treated. Also, I hope that WWE can actually enforce their steroid abuse program and treat ALL of their wrestlers instead of just a handpicked few.

No matter the reason, no one deserves what he did to them. Who cares why he did it, there is no reason for it period. The guy sucks, I am glad he is no longer on this planet. And everyone should try and forget him

Man.. When I first heard about the news of the death of Benoit and his family, I just had the worst gut feeling (yes, a murder-suicide).. I'm not sure why I jumped to that conclusion but wow.. I'm still in a state of disbelief.. I went from really being sad for one of my all-time most respected wrestlers (you could not be a fan and not love or appreciate his in-ring style).. but now.. with everything we're hearing.. Wow.. It's only been 24 hours since their bodies were discovered. All that is is preliminary speculation based on it's the investigator's best working theory they have right now. Do you think they ve had people camped out at Benoit's house all night investigating? I don't. Even though it isn't looking good nothing has been totally confirmed yet other than they're dead,benoit was found hanging,nancy got strangled with a cord and their was suffocated with a bag.

Its prob been said, but I think the only way Benoit might have been able to do this is if Nancy has caused if to just "snap" as they call it nowadays. But everyone knew he thought the world of his sons, so he must've gone CRAZY if he did it. We have to wait for all of the facts to come out first though, they could've all been murdered, who knows the truth at this point.

Just a little note here to the people who are complaining about Benoit only getting a little coverage and "those stupid wildfires" getting more. It's because "those stupid" wildfires have to potential to kill many more people than Benoit did, and destroy thousands of buildings, homes, and lives in the process.

I can understand the complaining about Paris Hilton, but show some respect all around please, both the Benoit investigation and the wildfires are terrible tragedies.

i dont know about this, Benoit was in TX, received a call from Nancy saying that she was leaving him and taking Daniel...then Benoit flew to Atlanta and killed them? Nancy could have run away with Daniel much Before Benoit could arrived to Atlanta. This marriage trouble theory doesnt make it for me...
