Slowly but Surely

So I posted a thread a while back discussing my displeasure with the crowd reaction that the Colon's received. I'm happy to say that since then it appears the crowd has gotten behind them. But I found myself wondering how far can they go? Look back at one of the most popular tag teams in recent years, the Hardy's. Their greatest quality was the excitement factor they provided in their matches. Something the Colon's are more than capable of. But they don't rely on it as much. They aqe also exceptional technical wrestlers as well. So my question is, do you think the Colon's can reach the popularity status that the Hardyz once had?

Absolutely not !!!!!

The Hardy's were one of the most over tag teams in WWE history... alongside teams like LOD, The Rockers, Edge & Christian, The Dudley Boys, et al...

The Carlito's (as I like to call them) are servicable, but it's hard to get behind a team when they have no clear cut rivals. Who have they beaten... better yet, who have they faced since Wrestlemania ???

In order to become majorly "over", it takes a feud, and in order to have a feud, there has to be a team.

See where this is going ???

its hard to say. im 50/50 here why they are good in the ring i think they just do not have the it factor to go all the way like the Hardys did. so i say No but they could surprise me as the crowd was really behind them on Raw tonight. that is good to see.

The question wasn't are they as popular now, but could they be. No they don't have any clear cut rivals right now. But it seems like the tag division is startin to shape up a bit. With Cryme Time, TWGTT, the Hart Dynasty, and Priceless, it seems like there is a chance that we get some respectable feuds and matches out of the tag division. I really think the Colon's have the potential to go down as a very special team when its all said and done.

I don't think so. While they are a great team to watch and get behind they just won't make it as the Hardyz did. I don't think anyone will in the future either unless there are some serious changes. These days the tag devision isn't built up much so they don't put "high hopes" wrestlers in it. The Colon's while good just won't hit the stardom E&C, Hardyz, Dudleyz had.

I'll tell you what. Give them some tag team moves and let them win the tag team titles a few more times...which requires them to lose the belts...
and then maybe you'll be in the right direction. Then give them a ridiculous match at Wrestlemania and have it steal the show. They don't even have to win! Then have them break up and beat the hell out of each other for a year or so. Then give them another Wrestlemania match, give them some more tag team title runs and give them a lot of exciting feuds...and then you're really close.
But then break up...again. Give them both World Title shots and runs as champions...then have them kill each other again and again until they split brands...then you'll have the Hardys.

They are going to get more popular the more 'teams' they beat, the more matches on TV they have and the more they win etc etc, they do as says above, need a massive fued to get them going, if they dont get one they will just becoming part of the fixtures and fittings and nothing more, eventually losing the titles and probably splitting up and going back into mid-card obscurity.

They need three things to become more popular:
Awesome rivals (preferably more than one)
More mic time
At least one EPIC match (preferably a "first-ever" match of some kind)

Matches against The Brian Kendrik and Matt/Regal just don't cut it. They need to feud with an already established tag team. The first team that might come to mind is the Miz and Morrison, but putting asside the fact that they've separated, they don't have the same appeal that the Dudley's or E&C did back in the Hardy's days. I think what they need is to get into a feud with another face tag team. Being that I don't typically watch SD or ECW, I can't think of any off the top of my head, but if they could have sort of a friendly feud with another face team, that could help boost them and the other team a little.

If they got more mic time, they would get more of a chance to get more over with the fans. Again, I only watch Raw, so maybe they get more time on SD and ECW-therefore making my point moot-but the idea is to give Carlito the mic and have him let the fans know how "cool" they are.

The match where I became a Hardy fan for life was the WrestleMania 2000 match. Before that, I knew of the Hardy's, but didn't really care about them. Once I saw that match, my interest jumped up about 1200% and still hasn't declined much. If the Colon's can get a ground-breaking match like that (and if the wwe will TELEVISE IT this time) then that could deffinetly catapult them into the epicness that they are capable of.

Unfortunatly, all of this is pointless banter, seeing as how Vince doesn't give a damn about the tag team division, and would probably like to get rid of the tag titles all together.

Crowd reactions in general, aren't anywhere near what they used to be. It isn't just the Colons.

Generally speaking, people just aren't enthused with the entire WWE product anymore. If you look around, nobody really gets the type of reaction today, compared to what the talent received in the late 90's and early 00's.

They have a lot of potential. If they were going to reunite an older team to win the titles from the Colons such as DX, Hardyz, Brothers of Destruction, Edge and Christian or something of that caliber. They could have a good storyline leading up to a pay per view in a certain match type probably wouldn't even need a stipulation and just have a really exciting match back and forth to really put the colons over with the fans and make them think "wow those guys are good". Then the Colons could win back the titles after the reunited team had a short run and it might put more fan interest back in the tag team division.

A manager could also be used to benefit them as well, maybe an older wrestler to act as a mentor like Micheal Hayes did with the Hardyz

Just some thoughts on how Colons could increase popularity to maybe be as big as the other big team names that came before them.

All in all those two just seem generic. Just because they are brothers doesn't mean they have to be a tag team. There have been some rumors that Chris Masters is coming back, so maybe Carlito will turn heel and reunite with Chris.

I doubt it. It's pretty hard to be popular when you're hardly ever promoted and dont even have a tshirt of your own. Carlito and Primo have an assload of potential. But the WWE fucked up by putting them on the entertainment centered RAW. They should've just kept them on Smackdown where they would've been featured more. I cant really even remember the last time I've heard the Colons talk. Hell, I cant even remember their last match. Basically the Colons CAN be big stars. But the WWE will have to start pushing them more for that to happen. Hell, just give them a interview segmant and a shirt with an apple on it (again) and that'll be enough to get them over.

I agree that they have the potential, and unfotunately the tag team division needs some work before they can reach it. Great thread and previous posts here! It was very premature IMO to break up Morrison and Miz as I feel these two could really help elevate the Colons (they had great in-ring and promo compatability with the Colons), and it would be great to see one of the classic tag teams come back to give them a rub too (my choice would be Edge and Christian several months down the road from now, maybe after SummerSlam).

I think they are both creative, talented and pretty good on the mic (esp. Carlito). With the potential rebuilding of the tag division I see only good things for the Colons, I hope.

Oooohhhh... maybe Kendrick and a returning Chris Masters could give them a good run too (sorry... not big on the idea of Carlito turning on Primo for Masters, they never got along in the first place)...

I think they can be, but WWE usually drops the ball on their Tag Teams, even the ones that are over. They won't get popular unless they have a good title run and have at least 2 or 3 huge feuds. I don't know what they are waiting for but they need to feud with Legacy as opposed to having Legacy get squashed by main eventers week in and week out. Also a feud with the Hart Dynasty will get them over. They need to cut the bullshit and do what needs to be done, but the Colons can go only as far as creative lets them unfortunately.

If they book them against schmuks every week they will never be popular.
