Ska Music

Ok, so heres the deal. I have recently fallen madly in love. Completely head over heels. This recent love is for the form of music, called ska music. In the past few months I have completely gone crazy for this genre of music. I think it is pure excellence.

For those of you who don't know what ska music is, I'm going to tell you. Ska music is a mixture of your basic rock instruments such as guitar, bass guitar, and drums, but the catch is it is mixed in with big band instruments, such as the trumpet, saxophone, and trombone. It all started in Jamaica in the 1950's with guitar and piano rhythms on the off beat. The music finally made its way to the states in what as none as "Third Wave Ska", mainly associated with punk rock bands. Such bands in the 90's have adapted this new kind of music such as The Mighty Mighty Boss Tones, Reel Big Fish, Sublime, Less Then Jake(My personal favorite), NOFX, Suicide Machines, and Goldfinger.

I don't know what makes me love this music so damn much. Maybe it's just that you get all of the in your face fast paced punk rock music, and at the same time you getting a soothing relaxed feeling from the notes of a saxophone all at once. I just really have found this new admiration for this genre of music, and felt the need to post about it.

So, with all that said I want your guys thought on Ska Music. Like it, or hate it? If you have not given a listen to this type of music then I highly recommend that you do so, and express how you feel about it to me here in this thread.

I really don't get much chance to listen to it now. But in my teens I was loving it. I don't get to go to see many bands so my knowledge of any recent stuff is zero. But I'm going to try to find a couple of new albums. I still listen to my old ones now.

I'm a skinhead so I guess you can say that the music inspired me in some way. It always amused me how boneheads were racist yet their whole look was influenced by predominantly Jamaican music.

I listen to it. To say it's my favorite type of music is stretching it. I do like it however. It is very peaceful but yet very partyish. I've been to a few ska concerts and they are an absolute blast. Everybody seems to have such a good time. The music is very upbeat and friendly. Some of my friends from High School are actually in a ska band. So yeah I listen to it. It's great stuff once in a while.
