Signs of Life for Drew McIntrye?

I know, there are a number of "Where is Drew", "Why don't they use him?" threads, but after Smackdown! last night there may actually be a glimmer of hope. True, he lost to Ezekial Jackson (with his tights being pulled, so not clean) but he was in two backstage spots with Teddy Long and actually seems to have a story line revolving around trying to salvage his career after being the Chosen One and not doing anything with it. They don't typically do story-lines revolving around people being threatened with losing their jobs if they are actually in jeopardy of losing their jobs, so it has to be a good sign (at least for those of us that think Drew has potential).

Any thoughts on this new angle with Drew?
Do you think it could help get Drew over?
Is this his final shot?

I was happy when Drew was moved to Raw, figuring they wouldn't bother to ship him to a new brand just to abandon him there, would they? Of course, it turns out that was exactly what they did, for whatever murky reasons that exist in the mind of management. After all, if they intended to use him only on Superstars, they could have left him on the Smackdown roster and accomplished that, no?

Now, there's new hope. Yes, since Teddy Long said Drew had to win his match last night or be fired. I figured he would, especially since Big Zeke hasn't exactly been on a winning streak lately. So okay, Drew lost, but he got three spots on camera last night. That's significant.

There have been a couple of recent threads about "realism" in pro wrestling nowadays. Last night's first segment with Drew and Teddy was surely indicative of it. When Teddy was pointing to "Drew's career going into a tailspin when he went to Raw" and "You were one of the highest paid performers but didn't earn it" I was wondering how Andrew Galloway felt about being depicted like that on national TV. Was he being forced to eat a bit of crow in exchange for another chance? A new push, even? At any rate, that was the sort of thing you never hear discussed on WWE TV..... it was real, and it was effective because of it.

Well, whatever the company has in mind for Drew, you can bet I was cool and indifferent to what was going in front of me. Sure.

My only problem came after the show, when I had to wipe all the lipstick marks from my TV screen.

Drooooooooo !!

I tried to post this as a thread..glad that this thread is here..

I think that this is one of the best things that has happened on smackdown in a long long time, i personally found it more exiting than Randy Boredton dying and i was very very exited when i saw these segments.

I think this is the sign of a well deserved push for drew, i think the angle is showing that he can get his passion back and when he becomes clearly mad he will prove teddy long that he has a place on the blue brand. He will then start to dominate smackdown again.

IMO this is a well deserved push as drew is one of the most talented superstars around.

This is not the end for drew, this is a positive thing that can only end well for him and smackdown in general.

Im glad im not the only person who believes in him either!!

It seems like a simple, solid angle that could be used to get McIntyre over. It's not overly thought out, it's not something that's overly complicated. It's an angle that's been done before and will continue to be done at times because it usually works.

McIntyre is someone that's made a lot of improvements to his game. He's better in the ring, he's worked on his facial expressions & body language and he's gotten better at telling a story during a match. All things considered, I thought he & Big Zeke had a pretty decent match last night. It was also kind of interesting to see Teddy Long behave that way towards anyone as he typically comes across as either a little spineless or completely laid back. I'm glad they went that route with Teddy last night and didn't try to ignore the past history between the two.

However this storyline turns out, I still think Drew will have a lot of opportunities at the E. I see a man under 30 with good talent & potential. Only way Drew will be released within the next two years is if he doesn't something to embarass the company. I don't like the "prove yourself" storyline unless its circled around faces, but I'm willing to give it a chance.

I think Drew won a lot of people over, including management, at last years's Elimination Chamber. I think the aggression shown in that match is why they wanted to put him on Raw. Too bad his ex wife & him had that drama around that time. But with a new year comes new opportunities, and I expect to see him in Smackdown Elimination Chamber once again this year. He should be able to get another strong opportunity at being a mid card heel, as Cody & Barrett are all SD has to offer at this time. I just hope they dont hotshot him to a title. That was my problem with his push last time

So The Hidden One is getting another push, after being cannon fodder for so long? *insert parody here*

Oh well, they gotta give somebody who was a Chosen One, anointed with holy oil by Vinnie Mac himself, a chance to show himself up again as something more than a decent guy who was given a good gimmick and couldn't get over. IF he succeeds and gets at least T_d D_B__s_-level over (not very much, but it's there), then there's one less jobber in the mid-card to laugh at about.

Meanwhile, I sit back and root for him to fail. :lmao:

Yea it was great to see drew. I really like him. I would enjoy a feud with seamus. Drew has the look and entrance music. He will be the kingpin of sd!

I have said it before, Drew needs a manager, and I think this could be leading to a Roddy Piper/Drew angle... Piper showing up and bawling him out, that he is a proud scotsman and should fight like one... that kind of thing...

I liked what they did with Teddy immensely in that little segment, they made it seem like he bears a bit of a grudge for their past, and I could easily see Drew going to Vince in the end to get Teddy removed as another way of resolving it could you imagine the look on Vince's face if Drew just walked up and said "You said I was the chosen one...do you want to look stupid?, well every second Teddy Long is messing with me, you do"... it would work!

They've got my interest, that's for sure. I don't love McIntyre but don't hate him either. I thought they made the wrong decision to draft him to Raw with literally zero intention on what to do with him, so he's finally back home.

I suspect your going to see this angle play out for quite sometime. Every week Drew trying to prove himself to Teddy Long with a new match, etc. The goal is to get him over. I wouldn't be surprised to see him turn either. It can work. I hope it does. He still has some potential.

Drew has so much potential that was wasted when he was drafted to Raw and demoted to Superstars jobber. It annoys me that he was been heavily pushed and shoved down our throats when he wasn't ready but since he has improved and become deserving of it, he became a jobber. Seeing Smackdown it seems that the WWE creative team still like McIntyre and want to do something with him and depending on how this storyline about him "losing his passion" goes, this could (hopefully) lead to another (and this time, deserving) push for him or his (unfortunate) release from the company. I hope this works out and gets McIntyre up to at least IC Title status again.

Hopefully this isn't his last chance but I REALLY hope this doesn't turn him face! As much as I hate this word more than any other, the closest to a face he should be is a *shudder* tweener. Ecck! I feel so dirty even saying it.

I think McIntyre has shown signs of life all year long. During his sporadic appearances on Superstars, his complexion was very lively, indicative of someone who's currently experiencing life. His bosom also heaved as though he was drawing breath, one of the clearest signs of life there is. I tried feeling his pulse too, but my computer is pretty cheap so I don't have all the bells and whistles. Still, those of you with Macs probably felt something. All good signs. Back when McIntyre was on the SmackDown brand, there was regular evidence of him being alive. He had twenty minute promos and during his feud with Hardy there were even recaps of his exploits on Raw, uncommon exposure for a B-show midcarder. I really think that this move to SmackDown is the best thing for him as if there's anywhere he's going to regain his former glory, it's the paper-thin blue brand. I think the angle will definitely get him over if it's given weekly exposure, which is something he wouldn't receive on Raw.

Hopefully the Smackdown writing team builds him up well, they usually do a good job of building up characters and storylines compared to the Raw team.

I'm glad to see him back on SD it just seems more natural to see him there and hopefully this story will lead to a great fued or stable! Remember WWE slowly does it this time, slowly does it!

You know in another forum someone pointed out a very good idea that might be happening now with Drew.

Does anyone remember the same thing happening with MVP a few years ago? the losing streak which turned into a storyline. This could be very similar to the way that there going to repush McIntyre.

I think Mac has that "It" factor you know? He doesnt need any gimmicks he just needs to win matches. I feel the same about swagger but they always make the job to nobodys.

Having lost for now two weeks consecutively, Drew McIntyre is on "Strike Two". Having lost to Santino Marella last night on Smackdown, things are not looking all to bright for the apparent "Chosen One".

However, looking further into this, it's definitely part of a big plan that the WWE has set for Drew. If they were going to fire McIntyre next week after "Strike Three", they would do just that. There wouldn't be any coverage on it and they certainly wouldn't create a whole WWE.com article for it.

http://www.wwe.com/shows/smackdown/2011-12-30/is-mcintyre-poorly-chosen-one

That's an article put up about the "Poorly Chosen One", where they talk about Drew's return to Smackdown and how things aren't going too well. So, next week we all know Drew will have a match, but against who we don't know. I do believe whatever happens, Drew will pull out a big win, leading to his push up the card on Smackdown. Eventually, it may get him an IC Title match, which is what I'm hoping. Anyways, let's see what you think;

Who you do think Drew will face next week?
Do you think Drew will win?
If he does, where will it put him on the card in the near future?

McIntyre will face Zack Ryder next week and LOSE. Which wont be a bad thing. Teddy Long will "fire" him and he will do the usual things that heels do when in a firing angle. He'll buy tickets in the stands, he'll attack guys in the locker room, and eventually, this will lead into a storyline for Drew and he will build some momentum and become relevant again in the WWE.

I think as strike 3 he gets stuck in a match against big show everyone is thinking well drew is going to be fired after he gets squashed by big show but no drew pulls out a huge upset victory swcures his job and fueds with big show until elimination chamber.. And we all know how good drew can be in the elimination chamber so i see good things for drews future

Something along the lines of what bk555 said! He has a mean streak and what better way to do it than beat the hell out of everyone! He should try and get on both shows and attack anyone he feels has wrong done him and just becomes a thorn in Teddy longs side and just doesn't go away, becoming sneaky and manipulative to some other wrestlers who feel the same way. If he doesn't lose the plot then he is in for a babyface turn, but I can't see this happening on SD with the current faces and heels. I think next Fridays ep of SD will be telling to where this is going and I for one am excited about 2012 for Mcintyre and alot of other "younger" wrestlers, viva la revolution!!:)

Man the IWC loves Drew. I wouldn't say I love him but he has a solid skill set and I'm glad he is getting some TV time. I like what BK said, though I wonder if its too soon after Awesome Truth to do something like that again. I think they will put him in a handicap match, probably against a team like The Usos, make it seem like he has no chance and then pull it out. That may not work well for his heel character though

I think as strike 3 he gets stuck in a match against big show everyone is thinking well drew is going to be fired after he gets squashed by big show but no drew pulls out a huge upset victory swcures his job and fueds with big show until elimination chamber.

I do like the sound of that. There are so many ways the company can provide a re-birth for Drew's career, providing that's what they're actually looking to do. I keep thinking of the end of Rob Conway's employment with WWE. I was sure it was part of a storyline when Vince McMahon threatened to fire Conway if he lost a match.......then did just that......and it turned out he was really future endeavored! All that sounds too much like what Teddy Long is now doing with Drew and it worries me.

The mini-program we've seen so far is interesting, though. In that WWE article quoted, Teddy was accusing Drew of showing less passion than during the initial phase of his WWE career. In fact, the opposite is true; he didn't seem to work as hard or sell as well during his Chosen One days. Since then, he's been a good soldier and worked extremely hard.....when he's gotten the chance. Look at how he sold Big Zeke and Santino's moves. I hope this is all the start of a major push......heaven knows he (and I!) have waited long enough for it.

When Drew unclipped his hair during his match with Santino, I did the same with mine. I couldn't help it......his will was too strong!

Drew!

Hopefully this leads to Drew vs Ryder at Mania with Drew winning the title and Ryder going on to challenge for the World Title.
Anyway, this seems like its a way to get McIntyre a nice little push, reintroduce him to the fans, not enough room on Raw then just shift him back to Smackdown, nothing wrong with that, hell, even put him in the Elimination Chamber match for the WHC, he was awesome in it last year but seemed to just fall away after.
IMO he has all the tools for a WHC run this year if WWE invested time and patience in him.

I was thinking they might have Drew win but some other heel will beat down on the face he just beat then Drew will make the save.

I hate to be the Mr. Negative of the thread, but right now I am hoping they simply release Drew McIntyre. The guy bores me to tears on the mic, and his mean streak and skill set might be good but the same can be said about Tyler Reks who is nowhere to be found. I thought Drew was pretty badass back in 2009 and at times in 2010, but he fizzled out rather quickly and the WWE dropped the ball with the "chosen one" storyline. Right now he is really stale.

Hopefully a month from now, Drew is in an exciting angle and I can eat my words. But as of right now, he bores me to tears.
