How do you get McIntrye over?

You can tell from my name and sig I am a big fan of Drew (share the same name after all). I was pleased to see him go over to Raw during the draft and it got me thinking about how to put him over with the crowd. As most will agree; he has the look, is good in the ring, and is serviceable on the mic but just doesn't seem to get consistently good reactions from the crowd.

I know they tried the program with Kelly Kelly that was abruptly abandoned over on Smackdown!, and I think re-igniting that program in a different manner could get him over as a major heel on Raw (I know, they have a ton of them already, but if you are having trouble getting a reaction as a heel, it isn't likely you will get one as a face).

This is my plan. Have him get involved with Kelly Kelly (backstage segments to start like they did on Smackdown! before, but with a different slant). Have him somewhat aloof to her. Give her the cold shoulder. That kind of stuff. Maybe a mixed tag or two (McIntrye/McCool vs. Kofi/Kelly for example) Kelly loses, gets beat up a bit by McCool, and Drew again, plays it cool, looking almost disgusted at Kelly.

OK, I admit it, I don't have the week-by-week build-up yet, but the end result is eventually Kelly sees the merit to Drew's more ruthless ways. The same attitude she was turned off by before. She realizes being the good girl isn't getting her anywhere. She ends up siding with Drew and forming a heel couple (ala Edge and Lita).

I would think this would draw major heat on both of them. To Kelly for dropping the goodie goodie image, and for Drew for corrupting the "innocent" Kelly Kelly.

Thoughts? Other ideas?

They need to just give him a storyline and stick with it. Any time he seems to get one it ends abrubtly. I thought his matt hardy rivalry could of been great. Also they really need to change his theme music. Its just hard to get a reaction to a song that puts u to sleep.

Interesting points but my answer is...Negative. The biggest problem with that idea is that it'll be pretty much impossible to put Kelly over as a heel. Now if you were to put Kaitlyn (the NXT 3 winner) in there, it just might work if you want Drew as a heel.

I can actually see McIntyre going over as a slightly face-like tweener (but not full blown face) in the Raw environment. He's got the rugged but aristocratic look that charms people AND shows off intensity. Not to mention he'd get quite a few cheers for showing up and dropping R-Truth with the Future Shock.

I agree with Owl though: Give him a storyline that's seen through to the end.... Oh wait, WWE creative doesn't know how to do that it seems. The music though is perfect for a tweener. It has that slow, calculating, aggressive methodology that reflects in Drew's in-ring wrestling but adds popularity.

The answer is quite simple, yet it's something WWE has completely stopped doing...

Play to his strengths. McIntyre can be very intense in the ring, and can play having a mean streak very well (see his performance at Elimination Chamber.) I say turn him face and let him run rampant on some of the lower name guys for the next couple months, then give him a main event feud against an upper midcard/low main event heel like Miz.

First I will say that nothing would make me happier than seeing Drew successful, I havent been impressed with him since his great showing at Elimination Chamber but I think with the proper i push he'll get back on track to becoming a world champion.

I however have a different approach that I believe will get him on the fan's side. I did like having him pursue Kelly but I say have him turn face and become a sort of heroic warrior who protects Kelly or all the divas. I'm not sure if this would be good but maybe go the route that the WWE took with Jericho feuding with Chyna, it wasnt a great start but it ended up scoring him a title and later on he became a champion on multiple occasions. Have him feud with Kharma when she's running through all the divas. Then Kelly falls for him, the fans fall for him and he starts his rise to glory :icon_biggrin:

I am too a big McIntyre fan and this draft means one thing, more air time and a bigger fan base...

I don't agree that is easier to get a pop by being a heel, it depends on his work!!
Some guys are better as Heels and others as Face, it depends!!
Right now, i would love to see Drew McIntyre turning face and feuding with Alberto Del Rio or CM Punk!!

But i stick with Alberto Del Rio, they can use Kelly Kelly to start build this feud!!

Build-Up
Make a promo on Alberto flirting with Kelly and forcing her to kiss him, then gets slapped and make his stupid smile!
Later on, make him fight against John Morrison, and when he was building the "Cross-Arm Breaker", Drew McIntyre suddenly appear with a sledge-hamer and look to Del Rio and to his stupid car, and start to get closer to his car, ADR starts to freak out, and JoMo get the rol-up, or simply kick ADR in the head out of nowhere and gets the pin! After that, he thanks Drew and goes away!!
Drew grab a mic and say while destroys ADR car
"If you ever.... try to hurt something that i like... i will... end your carrer!"
Slams the front glass and walks out!!

Next Raw, ADR starts the show with a promo complaining about Drew McIntyre monstrous act, and that he will regret that!!
Blip Blip... An email from RAW GM..
RAW GM says and i quote:
"I agree with you Alberto, and i will help you get your revenge, today you can choose a match for Drew"

Later... ADR song hit go to the ring and calls out Drew!!
Drew comes, massive pop... and ADR says: "You american are the worst people in the world, so today Drew McIntyre you will fight against a true american in a handicap match including myself"

Match: Jack Swagger and Alberto Del Rio vs Drew McIntyre
Drew grabs Swagger and put him over the top rope and starts a fist fight against ADR , until Swagger comes back and locks the Ankle Lock!! and ADR the reverse cross arm breaker.
JoMo enters with... Kelly Kelly... John Morrison hits a couple of punches in Swagger and ADR put them over the top rope and Kelly Kelly checks on Drew!!

Next week, K2 appears knocked out... some other Diva warns Drew and he start to run for the backstage trying to find ADR!!
Cant find him .... Goes to the ring, and say that ADR is a coward for beating Kelly Kelly and challenges him to a Last Man Standing Match!!
From beyond ADR hits with a steel chair on Drew, locks the CrossArm and yell you're on!!!

In the end... [/B]Drew McIntyre vs Alberto Del Rio in a PPV
They have a ultimate match!! Big pop for Drew and massive HEAT for ADR!!
Use your imagination now, and in that match they can show Drew McIntyre resilience and strength!
Future Shock DDT against a Table, both stays on the ground, until Drew starts o get up!!
Winner: Drew McIntyre

Well something like that xD

Pop quiz;

1) Anyone been watching Smackdown recently?

If your answer is yes I'd hope you will have noticed, as have I, something in particular about Drew. He has.... no story, no momentum, no development. Basically he ought to be the equivalent of a guy like Chris Masters who is there pretty much to put guys over.

And yet he has been getting more heat recently than at any time since debuting, with no push and nothing really going on. I'm a confessed McIntyre fan ever since his first appearance and I'm fairly confident as to why. Aggression. The word gets passed around the WWE now like a soiled collection plate at a football match, even last week it was used to describe what R-Truth did to JoMo. But Drew McIntyre embodies the word, he truly does. He just goes to the ring with his good working ability and his aggressive edge and the way he carries himself in the ring just gets him heat fairly effortlessly.

As such I was a little unhappy, which may suprise you, to find out about him going to Raw for the fact that it may kill the nice stack of heat he's been chalking up. Drew isn't a good talker, he isn't. But, he is better than quite a few guys who've also been lucky enough to hold a WWE mic. But what he has proven to me is that he doesn't need it. Honestly a guy who collects heat simply through plain wrestling is something I don't think passes through the doors every day and I just hope he continues his run on the red brand.

So if he's going to steamroll I'd want him to continue on the roll he's amassed until he has to earn a story or title shot and then let the heat he's earned blow the doors open.

What McIntyre needs I think is to be put in a good solid program with a proven star on the Raw roster. Rey Mysterio's feud with Cody Rhodes while both were on SmackDown! definitely elevated Cody's stock and has helped put his career on another level. I've seen a few matches between McIntyre & Mysterio and they've been very good. A feud with someone like Mysterio could do a lot for McIntyre.

I was actually thinking about this today and, while I know that there's virtually no chance of it happening, I'd like to see McIntyre feud with The Undertaker when he returns. According to reports, Taker will be on Raw when he returns and having McIntyre booked as a strong competitor throughout a feud with Taker would all but guarantee his future with the WWE. As I said, it probably won't happen, but McIntyre could be built into a legit long term star if he's put into a program with certain wrestlers on Raw.

Simple; have him take Randy Orton's role on Raw. Make him the super-aggressive tweener who acts like a heel TOWARDS heels, getting him babyface reactions. Easiest thing in the world to execute if you have the right guy to do it, and McIntyre has that perfect mold. That's how HHH got over the first time he was a babyface; heelish actions towards heels. In DX (the late 90s DX, with the NAO, X Pac and Chyna) he did heelish actions like sabotaging and defacing property, but he did it to get at the ultimate heel in McMahon. Have Drew start aggressively going after Punk and/or Nexus. I personally think that Punk should be the top heel on the brand, but unfortunately Del Rio and Miz are probably both going to be pushed above him. Regardless, Drew and Punk could put on a great program and it'd be a great move to get Punk to do (put Drew over) if he's planning on leaving when his contract expires.

Have him go right after whoever wins the belt this Sunday.

When the champion is in the ring giving their "I won the belt" speech, literally just have him run down into the ring, and start wailing on the champion. If it's Cena or JoMo, instant heat. If it's Miz, instant cheers.

Leave the champ in a heap in the ring, and have Drew grab a mic, and say "I'm the Chosen One, and that's why I'm on Raw. To get my belt."

Honestly, I'd take him off TV for a while and give him a new look aka a hair cut.

The guy may have improved or whatever, but for the most part he just comes across as very, very uninteresting to the crowds. And I really don't blame the crowds for being hard pressed to give the guy another chance considering just how bad he was during his first major (and at the same never ending) push was. Having him off TV for a while will make people forget him, making it easier to recondition the crowd to respond to Drew.
