Sheamus-- General and Miscellaneous Comments Thread

I'm glad to see somebody new in the Main Event scene finally and if it's Sheamus than thats better than what we've been seeing. Sheamus isn't my first choice of someone to get the push but as stated in some other threads I can see why the WWE chose him over other guys.

There seems to be 2 main complaints about Sheamus on this thread.

1. He's only been on RAW for 3 weeks and hasn't wrestled, talked, really done anything other than beat up a jobber, sucker punch a commentator, and win a battle royal.
- Well I think having the main event spot against Cena at this pay per view will help awnser a lot of questions in the coming weeks that everyone is looking for. He will have a variety of matches where you will see some move sets and some in ring work. And he shoot some promo's getting some mic time building up to the fued.

2. His skin tone being very pale. I understand why they do it to help promote his "celtic warrior" but it is tough to watch espically when it's not of the norm. The more and more I read and watch I'm becoming a fan of his physical apperance I think his skin tone is helping him draw a lot of heel heat. People are hating him just because they hate his look. It's unique but it's working.

All in all I personally I think the jury is still out on Sheamus for me. I don't know if I'm a fan or not. I"m going to watch the next few weeks of shows and then make my judgement after the PPV. I agree that their are a lot of other people that should get the push other than him (swagger, and kofi), but Kofi's getting his push right now and I have feeling the WWE hasn't given up on Swagger just yet. If they did then I think they made a huge mistake.

I think it's too soon to judge Sheamus. We'll have to see how they build up his match for TLC. He seems like a solid wrestler who brings a unique look and character to the business.

Also, you can't make the arguement that you don't like Sheamus or find him distracting because he is too white, pale, etc. If someone said "I don't like R-Truth because he is too dark. It's distracting, it bothers me," there would be quite an uproar, and rightfully so.

Ok I'll bite the bullet.

SHEAMUS! SHEAMUS! SHEAMUS! SHEAMUS!

I hope he wins sooooo bad so you guys feel like idiots. And I know its gonna happen somewhere down the road, probably not at TLC, but eventually. Do you know why? Because I read in the most recent house show results, He got "you can't wrestle" chants. Which if anyone has been paying attention to the WWE In I don't know, 20 years? Is a classic chant for someone who is gonna be THE guy at some point. Cena, Orton, The Rock, HHH, even Matt Morgan have all received that chant at some point. And for some reason, that gives Vince a hard on for whoever receives it. I know it's juvenile to base my prediction on that little fact, but I'm gonna call it now. In 3 years, Sheamus WILL have been in a world title match at 'Mania. let the disapproval begin.

I've been a big Sheamus fan since he arrived in ECW. I know he's done little more than squash jobbers, but he's impressed me, and I hope for a good showing at TLC. I'm also the same person that has a Fan Club for Matt Morgan, so maybe I'm like Vince, and want big athletic men to be successful.

He's got some decent size, without it being too much. I'd buy him getting a title in the next few months, regardless of whether he's HHH workout buddy.

Well my take on it is that I don't mind sheamus as a character I think he has a great look minus the fact that he looks like a red headed albino, but the problem is they are eventually going to have to do with this guy like they did kofi, I mean how long would you guys want to listen to his irish accent (is it even real, cause I doubt it) some people would say he is too gimmicky with the whole irish thing its almost like giving some of the 90's over gimmicked guys a push like doink, patriot, aldo montoya.

However I have to agree this is the only real way to start building guys, I just think without even a shot at ECW gold, and he lost to Goldust (it may be by countout but a loss is a loss) he hasn't had any strong showings as of yet. Hell even the great Khali had a showing before he ran with the title even if his matches were mediocre at best. There were other guys to push before Sheamus. I hate to say it because I am not a big Cena fan, but the WWE is making the same mistake with Sheamus that they did with Brock and Lashley by pushing a talent before he is established for a period of time.

As much as I would like to say Sheamus is fresh and mixing up the title picture, I can't get over the fact that I just don't want to see this guy on my television screen. I mean, great, he's a big roided up guy with an Irish accent who's apparently buddy buddy with HHH, beat up Jamie Noble, a timekeeper, and various jobbers...I just hate that that alone is enough to give you a title shot in this company sometimes. The guy's got a decent move set, seems relatively athletic, but he's got a long way to go on the mike and I just don't think he's earned enough of his stripes yet to be force fed to us as a main eventer. Plus it doesn't help that his name is Sheamus. Kinda sounds like Shavus, the guy with no bottom lip who pumped my gas in rural Kentucky last week, how are we supossed to take this guy seriously?? It's kind of frustrating when WWE seems to listen to their fans and subsequently gives a guy a push (like they did with Kofi), but more often than not they force feed guys like this to us without listening to us at all. The fans in the arena are NOT feeling this guy. The crowds are dead for him. The only chant I've heard for this guy is "Get Some Sun!!" by a couple of kids at a house show. His push seems eerily similar to the Snitsky type pushes of years, and we all know how that worked out for old Gene in the end...

In my opinion, it's great that WWE is trying to mix up the title picture with fresh faces, but Sheamus is not the right guy to go with. Kofi would've made the most sense at this point. Evan Bourne would've been a good choice as well, however with his lack of size it will be tough for him to main event in WWE. What do you guys think? Who else might be some better new title contenders, or is Sheamus really the guy?

I have to concur with some of the other posters on Sheamus' look being a bit distracting. It's not merely the paleness or the hair or the accent-it's all of it combined. His gimmick just doesn't do much for me. He comes off as gawky instead of menacing. (All I can think of when I see him is the South Park episode where Cartmen hates red headed kids and calls them 'gingers') Perhaps that makes me shallow, but I just don't feel it with Sheamus. I do think his push was kind of fast and I'm just not excited to see him in a main event. Maybe with a new gimmick or some build time, I'd grow more receptive to him..

I'm not a huge fan of Sheamus, but I like that he's getting pushed. It's on a B-PPV where he can try and show if he can hang with the big crowd. He's getting a rub, same way Miz did. I prefer him to someone like Khali, Snitsky, or Umaga because he isn't portrayed as a savage. He's allowed to talk, and that adds depth to the "monster" character.

I hope he and Cena can pull off a great match.

There was an online interview with Triple H that was posted some time ago, and I'm pretty sure that's where the info regarding their friendship came from. What most people are forgetting is that Triple H didn't just say they were work out buddies, he also made note of how Sheamus goes beyond and above to learn his craft. He's always at shows he doesn't need to be at, always talking to people on how he can improve etc, and if people remember that speech Triple H gave on Tough Enough, you'll understand how Sheamus has been able to make an impression on him. The guy is away from his home, family and friends, so it seems he's completely immersed himself in the biz and it's paid off.

Regarding his look, do people realise how ridiculous he's look with any kind of tan, especially with that hair. His look fits his gimmick as the Celtic Warrior. Plus, he'd more than likely just burn, rather than tan. Even if he did have a tan, people would complain that it wasn't natural on him and that he's just conforming to Vince's Mainevent Model...he's distinctive and has people talking, that can only be good.

Who the fuck should it have been then? Seriously, what’s the big deal with Sheamus facing Cena? If you think about it, it actually makes a little sense. Look at what Orton and Kofi are doing right now. Orton’s building ofi up perfect, why? Because Orton is the super heel on raw (Jericho’s on Smackdown, but they’re close). Kofi is an up and coming face, heel vs face is going to be the easy way to create good drama. And when you put super heel vs an on fire up and coming face it’s golden. So it probably wouldn’t be the best choice for Cena to take Kofi away from his feud with Orton. So it’s gotta be an up and coming heel.

The million dollar marine Ted Dibiase- probably makes the most sense he has a good build right now and has a movie coming out. But his big break has to be turning on Orton and leading to their match at Wrestlemania (good grudge match). So he’s not beating Orton in that battle royal.

The Miz – this would be the next best choice as he is way over right now and it would be very entertaining. Plus that would build some more prestige in the us title with it going up against the championship belt. (Ultimate Warrior vs Hogan). But Cena and Orton already had their program and it would take away a any possible feud for the US title.

Rhodes – Same as Dibiase minus the movie and not going to beat Orton in the battle royal

Jack Swagger – Wrestlezone just reported the the WWE is down on swagger now because he’s hasn’t been turning into what they were hoping for.

Who else Carlito? maybe he did just give that solid shoot speech on raw. But really? He has been gone forever, it would have came outta nowhere (not always bad). But he had NO momentum. Chris Masters? Would him and Cena have a wet t-shirt contest and then have masters shake his boobs at him? No

It had to be Sheamus. It’s not like he came outta nowhere. He had been getting some kind of push and momentum for about a month. Why not give his monster enforcer gimmick a chance to catch on. See what he’s got. A lot is going to depend on the build with the next to raws. If they do it right it can be entertaining. Unfortunately they failed with Sheamus on raw this week, but hopefully it can be improved. But wtf, Shaemus may kinda maybe have been the right choice for right now. Plus the whole shoot on Cena theme right now has been entertaining.
