My Thoughts

While it's fairly hard to find some of his more famous matches online, based on what I've seen, he is quite a talented wrestler. His style is definitely built more for the indies than a major promotion though. He uses a more free fast paced style than WWE likes to see in their wrestlers. He managed to win the ROH title, which is a title that seems to mean that you need the talent to back it up in the ring. More videos will be added if they can be found.

Austin Aries Huh? Ive never been a big fan. Hes that type of wrestler that knows a shit ton of moves but has no ring psychology. Basically what I mean is he's all flash and no sizzle. Which I guess is alright, I mean hes entertaining to watch. But to me it always seems like his matches are missing something. The guy has talent. Just look at his moveset. But a big moveset isnt everything.

Ive been planning on doing Austin Aries for a while I just have been distracted by other Wrestlers. Klunder, RVDgurl is going to love you. He has the talent to do well, IF RoH makes it to the next level up like getting a TV deal and their PPV stuff keeps going on and People look at it as an Alternative to WWE and TNA then it should be a good thing for Austin. He is the one in RoH that seems like he is a good shot at being a Two Time Ring of Honor World Champion.

It is a real shame that his TNA stuff didnt work out.

The guy is extremely talented. He had a great run as ROH champ and has done it with pretty much everyone who has walked through the ROH curtains. To me, he is very good in the perennial challenger position, and while I am sure his loyalty to ROH will be rewarded with another title run, it may take a while for it to come to him.

I prefer him as a face or tweener (because with the exception of the Generation Next stable, who were a brilliant group) his heel work seems mostly average and he paled in comparison to Nigel Mcguiness and Roderick Strong in my eyes.

I am honestly waiting for RoH to go to "the next step" and that would certainly give him the platform that he deserves to perform on.

I've always been a fan of Aries but, having recently gone off most indies, mostly only dabbling in highly recommended ROH DVDs, mostly for his TNA work. I mean, I've seen his ROH work and I've been very impressed by it, but I've never actually had much reason to give a shit. That's a poor explanation really.

Anyway, I'll just continue to say how he's one of the most impressive young wrestlers I've ever had the pleasure of wacthing and, like many others, I've wondered why TNA bothered to repackage him. He always seemed to be pretty over with the TNA crowd. I mean, everybody's over with them, but more than usual. I always thought he was perfectly marketable, and making him into Austin Starr was just a waste.

I agree with the general consensus. Aries is a talented guy and pulls off some pretty incredible moves and I was disappointed to see him leave TNA, even if the Starr gimmick was v irritating. I think with time and the right mentors, he would have been a very strong competitor and learnt the psychology he needed to improve big time.

i agree with everything said about austin aries he has amazing talent and good mic skills and ive actually seen him wrestle at a roh event and he was very solid live. but his style is suited for the indys he has a very big move set but like mentioned before no ring psychology some indy wrestlers just cant work the wwe or tna style like cm punk whos still havin problems adjusting to it

My Thoughts
Nagata showed up in WCW in the mid to late 90s, and I was quite bored with him. He was just a typical Japanese guy with a typical moveset, but his stuff in Japan is far better. It appears that he's a big deal over there, having been the IWGP champion twice, so I'm assuming it was just WCW messing up another good talent. Most of his stuff is tag matches, and he seems to work well in these as well. To me, his best stuff is against Bernard, Tomko and Angle, who are all power wrestlers. Nagata is a more technical and submission style worker, so the styles mesh well together. Overall, a guy I didn't know much about, but am glad I looked up.

Nagata is great. He's obviously not going to stand out in an American wrestling promotion. He's Japanese. Everyone knows Japanese have to have green mist, masks, sterotypical music etc to get over. None are ever going to get over by just being themselves. Unless they were in ECW then they have slighty more chance.

Nagata is also a shoot fighter. Not the best. But if your a fan of wrestling it's more intresting watching a wrestler get the shit kicked out of him, than an Average Joe.

Ok I am back into this after taking a couple of months off. Klunder did a good job with the ones he did. I thought that Big Ace of Spades was supposed to help but anyway good work KB.

My Thoughts:

One of the Best ever you just need to watch the matches to get that. A Member of The Four Horsemen in its best form. Great Wrestler that could have gone further than he did and not be forgotten by a lot of Fans as it appears he has been.

Always underrated to me, and one of the most forgotten world champions in history. He bounced around so much in his career that it's no shock that he has the list of titles that he has. It really goes to show what kind of talent he had. This guy is the perfect example of what the territory system could do. He went down to Florida and became a god there, only to come back to JCP and become the world champion. It's a shame that he was given the title when Flair came back to the promotion, as it would've been interesting to see him have a run as the NWA champion, when the title had a last glimmer of life left in it. His time in the WWF is interesting as there was always a different gimmick for him, from Widowmaker to a Blackjack, to the Stalker, to a guy that came out to Real American. Great worker, always underrated and never got the chance I thought he deserved.

Very underrated. Barry Windham is on the list of guys that should have held the NWA championship. He was actually scheduled to win it but then Flair went to the WWF/E. I remember him most for his Horsemen days where he played the role of a Horsemen well. It's too bad that none of the organizations he worked for realized this guys full potential.

Made me into a horseman fan after he turned on Luger. Barry was such a badass. I saw him wrestle Sting at the Civic Center in Philly in the late 80's. He ddt'ed Sting on the floor. After that moment I proudly displayed the horseman hand gesture. All my friends thought I was nuts for diggin the heels. One of the greatest!!

My Thoughts:

Colt Cabana has it all. Great promo ability and solid ring work. I really wonder why he hasn't been brought up to the WWE yet. Cabana is great he has the charisma to go far. He can do comedy gold just look at the promo with Dragon Kid. His Ring work is solid and WSX was good for him in the sense of opening up the possibility of using Matt Classic as a gimmick in the WWE as well as Colt Cabana.

Fucking finally, I've been waiting for you to feature Colt forever, this guy is probably my favorite non-WWE or TNA guy, I can't beleive WWE hasn't brought this guy up yet, he has everything it takes to be great in WWE, excellent promo ability, good ring skills, and more than enough charisma, WWE is missing the boat big time by not bring this guy up yet, it's a shame there isn't more of his stuff available on youtube and shit, cause the stuff Shadow provided doesn't even scratch the surface, the first Cabana match I saw was Colts farewell match from ROH, vs. Adam Pearce, it was probably the best match I've seen with Pearce, and the match was fucking great and had you laughing your ass off and Colts hijinks in the ring, another Colt match I would highly recommend woulf be his Street Fight with Jimmy Jacobs, just fucking awesome, that match showed, that Colt can be serious when needed, he and Jacobs told an awesome story with that match, and it was also one of the most brutal matches I've seen in ROH, Colt Cabana needs to be brought up to WWE right fucking now!!!

Oh yeah just realized there was a match Shadow forgot to post, the one where Colt wrestled as Twinkie the kid, this match had me ROFLMAO!!!, it's by no means a 5 star classic or anything but I found it to be funny as hell

http://www.dailymotion.com/relevanc...r_chris-hero-vs-twinkie-the-kid-vs-ch_extreme

I haven't seen much of Cabana, but from what I've seen he's something special. He's got the comedy down to the letter, his in ring stuff is great, and he can brawl with the best of them. He and Punk had some of the best moments I've ever seen in ROH. Punk's last match was against Cabana in a 2/3 falls match, with Punk being serious and Colt trying to be funny, even attempting to Dance with him. It had me cracking up laughing. What I'm terrified of is that Vince will try to give him a new gimmick that he creates and make Colt something that he's awful at and then have him be released. He could be a great star in WWE, with he and Punk having some great comedy stuff going on.

Colt Cabana. What a tremendous asset he will be to the WWE... if they ever get off their asses and call this guy up! I had the opportunity to see Colt in his last ROH match in Philly. He was so unbelieveably entertaining. He like a throwback in the ring. He is one of those guys that would've been emensely popular in the last 80's/early 90's. He is solid in the ring and has great mic skills. He has a way of connecting to the fans in every match.

I thought u said u were gonna try to connect the wrestlers in some way. What connection does barry windham have with Colt Cabana?...lol no problem with Cabana though. Great wrestler and very funny. You should feature Ruckus a.k.a Claude Morrow next as he was a WSX guy too and he is fucking amazing if u watch his indy stuff mostunderrated wrestler today in my opinion.

God you read from the start. Good work really. But you want a Link and it is tenuous at best. They both worked for Vince McMahon at the same time I think. I will be putting up the last one, not next Friday (NZT) but the Friday afterwards(NZT) If you wish to make a guess of who it is then go ahead. It will be a former multiple-time World Champion. Retired Fully so, that should narrow it down significantly.

The best thing about this thread is that it gives a lot of fans a great look at some of the future greats in the WWE. With Colt Cabana coming to the WWE now, people get a better understanding of who he is, what he can do, and what to expect from him. Colt Cabana looks great, He hopefully will get to go all out in the WWE and get some good recognition. I just hope Team McMahon knows how to use him properly. Now for the undated wrestler of the week, Raven, it gives fans a great chance to look back at a great ECW, WCW, WWE, and TNA wrestler.

Ok this is the last Wrestler of the Week. If this can be unstickyed after a week that would be great.

My thoughts:

Harley Race is a name that people seem to forget when debating who the Best Pro Wrestlers are. He is a 7 time world champ. That means that he was entrusted the belt and had the drawing ability. He is one of the great Heels and you can see elements of Harley Race's style in Triple H. He talked well and could cut the promos really well. Just look at the Georgia Championship Wrestling ones to get that idea.

A great way to end the Wrestler of the Week Shadow. When I talk to my dad, a guy that has watched wrestling since the 50's, the one man that he says, without hesitation, without question, without pause, is the greatest wrestler to ever lace on a pair of boots.

It's a shame that I never got to see Race in his prime, but I've been a big fan and do what I can to watch any of his old matches. The guy is simply bad ass. To be a 7 time NWA champion pre 1984 and modern Era hot potatoing of the belts, is a huge statement into itself.

Anyone that is a Triple H fan should check out Harley Race. People like to make comparisons of Triple H to Flair, when that simply isn't the case. Triple H is a reboot of Harley Race, plain and simple. The mean streak and the viscous nature of heel Triple H were all taken from Harley Race. Hell, Triple H even uses the Harley Race knee lift as one of his signature moves. Triple H even used the old confederate beard that Race sported for many years.

I remember Race mostly for his forgettable run as King of the WWF and his feud with the Bulldog. Race was just a shadow of his former self at that point. That's his ring work. I remember him mostly for being the mouthpiece to Big Van Vader. Vader was the hitter, Race was the wise old sage that groomed Vader to be the monster he was (despite the fact that the two couldn't stand each other in real life). Harley Race is simply put, fucking amazing.

First of all, thank you Shadow for doing this thread for so long. It was the first post I ever made around here and has always been one of my favorites.

Now, onto Harley. When I was reading the clues about who it was going to be, I thought it would be Ric Flair. Upon seeing who it was though, I was very pleased. We've all seen so many Flair matches that we know them by heart. But how many Race matches have you seen? Race made Flair, end of argument. That legendary rivalry was nothing short of classic, as it set the stage for Flair and the Four Horsemen to rise up. Race was way ahead of his time with his character and mannerisms that made him so evil of a character. In his time and for several years after it he was the greatest heel ever. He really was the oringal HHH. Excellent choice Shadow, couldn't have picked a better one.

What a great way to end Wrestler of the Week. Harley Race doesn't seem to get as much recognition that he deserves, he paved the way for all future heels because he perfected the heel mentality and made it his own. I enjoy watching his old matches from AWA and NWA, good stuff right there and I recommend it to anybody itching to see some good ol' traditional wrestling. My favorite wrestler Triple H also emulated much of his style from Harley Race and like Shocky said, Triple H is not the modern day version of Ric Flair, he is the modern day version of Harley Race.
