Scribblenauts: A Revolution in Gaming.

The Legendary 23

Naughty by Nature
It looks like nobody has mentioned it, so I thought I'd start this one up after I heard about.

Scribblenauts is a DS game dated for release this September, and by god it looks like it could be the most entertaining game I'll ever play. The premise is that you can write in any noun on the touch screen, and that object will appear on the top screen. The purpose is to utilize these objects/creatures to accomplish your mission. And this is on a portable game console, keep that in mind. I never thought a DS could be capable of anything like this.

The game boasts tens of thousands of nouns for you to use. From jetpacks to time machines to God to panda bears, nearly everything conceivable is available to use. There are two types of missions: puzzle and action. Puzzle missions revolve around a goal, such as accessing a star that is stuck up in a tree. The less nouns you utilize and the more creative you are get you extra points. Action missions require you to get from point A to point B, with obstacles and creatures standing in your way. It also looks like there is a mode to just see whatever you can come up with, and looks like loads of fun. Just matching up a T-rex versus the Grim Reaper is enough for me.

Not only this, but objects will react with one another as you would imagine they would. You can use glue to stick things together, etc. Here are videos that illustrate well what the game is capable of.

This one shows the creature interaction with one another, and has some hilarious match-ups.

The game even has some internet icons in it, including none other than Rick Astley.

So, what are your guys' thoughts?

To quote Chester A. Bum:

"OH MY GOD THIS THE BET GAME I'VE EVER SEEN IN MY LIFE!!!!!"

The concept looks like it works and if it goes over it'll teach little kids to learn more nouns. I so gotta buy this game.

I remember someone brought this up a few months ago maybe. Was it you Lee?
It's a very cool idea, but maybe they could have done some better objectives than "get a star out of a tree". I'm exaggerating and I'm sure there are some good platforming elements, but the graphics leave something to be desired.

Im also concerned with the political correctness of it. You can have god, but will they include Satan? Fidel Castro? I'd really like to test the limits of the game, and how many nouns are possible to use. In terms of revolutionary it is, but if you lack imagination, you're screwed. And considering most people playing this game would be generation Y/Late generation X, Im guessing it would be low imagination.
