RVD Kicked Out Abyss' Teeth

GrandSword

Burning Hammaaaaah!!!
I know this happened over a month ago but I haven't seen any discussion on it. Abyss has been working for TNA almost since day one, and then a highly paid "superstar" walks inot the company and kicks his front teeth out in a reckless spot.

Now in the 90's I was a massive RVD fan, but there were reports by WWE guys (HHH etc.) when he moved there, who believed him to be reckless with the welfare of other workers.

Fast forward to 2011 and he kicks out the teeth of one of TNA's main guys. Now due to Abyss' monster gimmick it may have gone unnoticed but what if he did it to the highly marketed guys like AJ Styles, Kurt Angle even Sting? I'd imagine if Sting after almost 30 years in the business in his last run got his teeth knocked out would be absolutely beside himself.

For someone who says he's amazing in the ring and is a veteran these sorts of bad accidents shouldn't be happening. And I feel for Abyss, he has given TNA his blood, his flesh and now his teeth for TNA. How many more scars will he keep putting on his body for ratings?

Question.. does RVD get in trouble for this? eg. de-push.

To those who know more about the backstage stuff, what is the usual punishment for doing something terrible like this to a co-worker?

Does RVD need to reassess his in ring style and realise he needs to tighten up his work so this doesn't happen again? Will he?

How do you know it was RVD's fuck-up? Maybe Abyss walked in too closely to the kick. I'm no expert of technique so I'm merely throwing that out there as a devil's advocate point.

There certainly was no evidence of a "de-push" when you saw the hype RVD received for last week's main event against Angle.

Good point about Abyss being the one who hurt himself. However I would still think that RVD should be more careful and if Abyss walks into something he should be really pulling his punches (kicks) to protect his fellow workers.

Your second point I guess brings up another TNA problem and that is the major "stars" with the big contracts not being punished for doing something wrong because they are the names. While eg. Alex Shelley keeps getting demoted for the same issues but didn't come from the WWE...

it was merely an accident you cant hold either of them accountable cause injuries happen in the world of pro wrestling

accidents happen! didnt randy orton break his collarbone in a match with hhh? injuries happen regardless of who is in the ring!

If this happened over a month ago and there hasn't been any discussion, does this not imply something to you? It really isn't a significant issue, maybe bad for Parks in his personal life but it only aids his character. Very slightly.

Hmm...I was wondering how it happened....

Mick Foley lost his teeth in a match, I don't think that he made too big a deal about it. Might have even started an angle around it. Pretty sure I remember him saying in WCW that Sting knocked his teeth out.

Who cares accidents happen THAT'S WHY THERE CALLED ACCIDENTS plus it was a month ago if Van Dam did do it I think he probably already told Chris Parks AKA Abyss he was sorry.

It makes Abyss more monster-like, and provides some good visuals. Cosmetic, but it works with him. It would work better if they would drop the whole Sun-Tzu warrior storyline, where he's trying to be more cerebral, but that can't last. This is not a punishable thing...it was a bit of a mishap, but it's not like he meant to do it. RVD was a little sloppy in that bout...honestly, it looks like he still shows ring rust to me, even after a year. But he's high-paid enough that anything short of a trial is not going to hurt his standing.

So based off one accident we have no indication there was any fault over, let alone RVD's himself, and because of hearsay reports that Triple H thought he was "dangerous", keyword being was, as in past-tense, RVD needs to be punished for this?

Sorry, bro, but as has been said, accidents happen. Nothing more to it.

you ever stop to think maybe abyss wanted his teeth kicked out? geez the nerve of some people

no but really, shit happens. its no ones fault, just a botch.

I've never really been overly fond of RVD. I mean the guy's pretty good and all, but I also think he's a little overrated. I can't really lay any blame on him for this. As others have said, shit happens. It's not just a saying on an old bumper sticker and t-shirt, it's a fact of life. Injuries do happen in wrestling, it's unavoidable. Maybe it was sort of RVD's fault. Maybe he did the move a little quicker than Abyss expected, maybe Abyss just wasn't able to get his hands up in time to absorb the blow, etc. It's not as if RVD did it on purpose, though it's certainly nothing to brag about.

As for RVD getting de-pushed, why would that happen? Jeff Hardy is a known drug addict with multiple drug felonies hanging over his head, but that didn't stop TNA from making him their World Heavyweight Champion. Despite the debacle that was Victory Road, Jeff Hardy is still signed with TNA as far as I know. Compared to that, RVD knocking a guy's teeth out is small potatoes.

Just throwing this out there, but based on your theory that there should have been some repercussions for RVD, then the same could have been said a few years after No Mercy 2008 (I think was the year) when HBK knocked out/broke one of Chris Jericho's teeth. This isn't like it is a recurring thing with RVD, but these types of injuries just happen in the ring sometimes.

Like alot of others have said, Accidents happen. I couldn't name a performer that didn't mess up a move atleast once in their career. And besides, how is RVD reckless in the ring? Because he's screwed up 1 or 2 moves before.

NEWSFLASH: He's not the first to mess up a move. It was an accident, and in a physical sport accidents happen.

The real person to blame should be Abyss himself. For one, it's a move he's been a victim to before. That being RVD's springboard kick. The fact that Abyss got hit straight in the mouth with it shows he didn't cover up properly. When taking a kick like that, you tilt your head to the side a bit to avoid direct contact with the frontal teeth because they are the most sensitive. Abyss didn't do it. Now he paid the price.

I've said it elsewhere and I'll reiterate here, RVD kicking Abyss in the face is the best thing to happen to The Monster in years. Seriously y'all, he really looks the part now, and it seems to have been the catalyst for his latest change in attitude.

I'll say this, it's the first time I've given a shit about Abyss since he was with Dr Stevie.

I expect this was just an accident as is common in prowrestling. Plenty of wrestlers have had their noses broken, accidental cuts and bruises, and teeth being knocked out.

If someone is pretending to punch or kick you in the face at high speed it is quite likely that sometimes one of you may make a slight error, or the timing may be slightly off resulting in an accidental injury.

Shit happens.

Punishing a wrestler for hurting another wrestler would just be ridiculous. Every guy in the business would either be skint or suspended. Wrestling may be scripted but it's pretty damn physical at times and guys are going to get hurt.

RVD is still one of the best wrestlers around and for TNA management to do anything about that accident would just be utter stupidity. His matches are always physical and fast paced and it's a wonder no one else has had their teeth knocked out judging but how 'real' his kicks look.

An accident like that can actually enhance a character though. And I think it has with Abyss. People gain more respect for someone when they see them hurt and continuing on. Sabu was famous for this. I know Abyss has continued through immense pain on many occasions before, but the majority of TNAs audience has probably only be watching a year or two.
