So, answer me this... does the game exist without Mario? The answer is a big fat NO. You can remove any of those characters in the game, and it's just as popular. But if you remove Mario, there is no game. It's as simple as that.
Ask any fan that, and they will answer yes. Have you even played any of these games? Mario is hardly the best character, hell Luigi is one of my go to guys. News flash...the title is MARIO Kart. Fuck.

In SSBM you have the likes of Link, Kirby, StarFox, Metroid and Donkey Kong which really have the aspects. The cult characters are the likes of Roy/Marth and Ness which led to a campaign to get those games released overe here...Fire Emblem was and has become a staple of Nintendo in the western world now whilst Mother and Earthbound 2 wasn't. but still had a huge campaign.

But to use the would it work without him is a bit poor...is Sega superstars tennis a sonic game? No...but would it work without sonic? No...why's that? sonic is the number 1 character for Sega, Mario is for Nintendo. Obviously if you're having a company melee you want the major guys in...it would be the same as having the invasion without hogan, hall, nash, sting and goldberg...oh wait, that didn't work did it? :p

Who really gives a shit if it's a Mario game or not? That's besides the point, the main point that I and JMT and others have attempted to make: GTA 3 is a superior game in every single aspect you could possibly judge a game. Every last one.

Damn, this tourney is getting heated. I'm voting for SSBM here. Why? One reason is because I just don't like the GTA series, and I've enjoyed the Super Smash Bros. series a whole lot more.

When you think about it, the idea for the Super Smash Bros. series is genius. A side-scrolling action fighter with unique battling of your favorite Nintendo characters... in gaming, it's one of the most intuitive ideas put on the market. The game produces addictive gameplay that makes the perfect game for hanging around with friends. When you think about the idea of GTA, its an open-world, urban shooter with a good storyline. Sounds like fun? Granted, it is. But if Rockstar didn't make it, the game was sure to be produced by another company down the road. It was going to happen, and to me that is a damper on the series. In the end though, SSBM, has the higher horse in my book. To this day my friends come over and play the original Super Smash Bros., that illustrates how solid the series is. Chalk up another for SSBM.

Yes, I've played them, and the first thing to notice is that they suck. However, while Mario is definitely not the best character in the game, the game still revolves around his name. Just look at the title for Christ sakes, Super Smash Bros. What were the Mario games called? Oh, that's right, Super Mario Bros. Of course there's more of a connection to Mario in that game than any other character considering the title of the game plays to his past games and since Mario's the centerpiece of the cover, thus making it a Mario related game in my eyes.

And to X's point, again... what has Melee done for the gaming industry? What? Nothing, that's what. Marvel vs. Capcom is a MUCH better series than Super Smash Brothers. Hell, even your boy Link, Lee, is a better, more entertaining fighting character in Soul Calibur 2 than he is in Smash Bros. There is just nothing special about Super Smash Bros., especially when comparing it to a game like Grand Theft Auto 3.

Have to go with GTA III. To me, it brought more to the gaming industry than SSBM. GTA III brought something new, an open world if you will, to the game. You could shoot someone from maybe 100 ft away, while just roaming around, and then you just go on your merry way, possibly collecting a little cash and maybe having to run from cops. The missions were cool, and I especially loved looking for all the cars to take to the garage.

To me, SSBM did nothing out of the ordinary. It was pretty much a kiddier version of Mortal Kombat or Street Fighter, except with Nintendo characters and you could jump on things or throw your opponent off. I really don't think it added to the series that much, and I would rather play the original SSB than Melee.

GTA III added some new elements to their series, and SSBM didn't add much if at all. For me, along with the better gaming experience and fun I had, I have to vote GTA III.

To be honest I've always considered Link the main guy in Super Smash Brothers from the beginning, though that may be because Zelda was always my favourite. But still I would love the game with Mario, Luigi, Bowser, Yoshi and Peach in it or not. But that's not really the debate, that just came up somewhere so I thought I'd say it.

When I was younger my favourite game was definitely the original Super Smash Brothers and I remember my excitement the very first time I got my own copy of the game, because it was just everything I looked for in a game. A few years later Melee was released, and as soon as I started playing I was amazed. At that point the thing that probably drew me in was the many characters to choose from, as opposed to the 12 or whatever from the original. At the time I remember me and my friends sitting up for hours just playing every combination of character, stage and items for a long long time. It just felt like the most amazing game ever created because it was such a huge step up from the original, and even though this isn't about the other games in the series it still matters to me here. I've never had a Gamecube myself, but me and my friends still bring this game out from time to time not for nostalgia, but because I think it's just as great as any game made today.

Grand Theft Auto III... I don't remember it that well, but I remember playing it a few times, and though it was fun and was a huge step up for GTA as a whole, it just didn't provide the entertainment factor everyone loves from SSB. Though people don't really think about GTA III these days and most of the time it is buried behind Vice City, San Andreas and IV, Melee is still worth playing even with Brawl out. As for something like graphics, SSB was supposed to be cartoony, and I don't think anybody expects them to be any better. It's supposed to be fun, and that's what games are all about. In this case I just have to say SSB is the more fun game. So, vote one of the most entertaining multiplayer games ever in Super Smash Brothers Melee. It's the righht choice.

And I'm even part of the nWZo.
