Round 3

link-vs-afro_zps40864b9d.png

Last round, Link managed to make his way past the futuristic Robocop. Now he goes one on one with one of the greatest swordsmen, Afro Samurai, who managed to take down the monster Jason. Who comes out on top?

FIGHT!

ok, ill start this one off.

Afro wins. He is downright ruthless. Link has fought through tough battles and defeated many foes. His weapons are strong and he has great range, but arrows wont win him this one. He will be one sad lad if he tries to go sword to sword with Afro. Ruthless, cunning and cold- Afro will take Link out and walk on down the road.

His skills with the blade is just too much for Link to handle. 'Fro to round four.

I love me some Afro Samurai but he can't beat Link. Afro has one weapon, his sword, and while he is probably more skilled than Link with it, I just don't think he can withstand everything Link can throw at him. Afro is quick and can dodge most of his attacks, but so is Link. Link also has the Master Shield that would be able to withstand Afro's sword attacks.

Will Bomb, Ice, and Fire arrows win him this one? I'm pretty sure it will as Afro is not ice, fire or bomb proof. Nor is he arrow proof, he's been taken down by an arrow to the ribs and some explosions before, something Link can deliver with ease. Afro has nothing to fight Link with but his sword and his cunning, Link doesn't need to get into close range to fight Afro, doesn't need to go sword to sword. His array of arrows would be more than enough to at least incapacitate Afro.

Link wins.

Regular arrows might not, but as The Amazing Red Skull already pointed out.... Link has Bomb Arrows, Fire Arrows, Ice Arrows, and the Arrows of Light. Unless he has protection from elemental weapons and Holy power then Afro Samurai would be lucky to make it out of this battle in one piece, let alone win it.

Nayru's Love makes Link unable to take damage for a while. Even if Link didn't have this activated from the moment the fight began, he has bottles with fairies in it who can revive him if he takes too much damage. He avoids this problem anyhow by simply relying on ranged combat. Hookshot can steal Afro's weapons as well. Or he could just activate Nayru's Love, followed by the Magic Cape to turn himself invisible, then picks his weapon of choice for the attack that gives him his victory in this round.

Whether it be ranged weaponry, using supportive magic to increase his defenses, or having enough fairies or potions available to keep him in the fight for an extremely long time; Link wins due to having all of the advantages in this fight.

Has Link ever faced a talented swordsman in his adventures? It seems to me that most of his enemies have fairly predictable attack patterns that he's able to capitalize on. Afro Samurai is just going to attack with a tireless sword attack that Link can't possibly hope to block forever.

Even his other weapons won't be enough to stop Afro Samurai. He moves too fast for Link to line up a shot on him with any of his ranged weapons, and he'd have to plant a bomb very accurately, and Afro Samurai could probably avoid it as he is quite agile and speedy himself. That coupled with the fact that he could use his sword defensively as well as offensively and you can find a million different reasons to chalk this one up as an Afro Samurai victory.

You're severely underestimating how many different types of weapons Link has at his disposal and overrating Afro's ability to defend against most of them. Link has deku nuts which are basically flash bangs to stun Afro, leaving him time rush in with a sword attack or an arrow. You also underestimating Link's accuracy, all he has to do is Z target Afro and continuously shoot his different array of arrows at him. Afro can defend against a normal arrow sure, but he's not stopping an arrow that would freeze him and his sword on touch or one that explodes on impact. Or Link could just wait for Afro to come in, pull out a bomb and whip at him, even if Afro is face to face with him and the bomb takes him out as well, a bottled fairy would bring Link back to life pretty quick. Afro wouldn't be able to take all that Link would be able to bring to him, there's a million different ways Link could take him down.

Technically he can't z-target as he isn't allowed outside interference and Link can only target when he has his helper (navi, tatl, midna,fi etc).

However i do agree with you Link has a ton of weapons at his disposal alot of which could prove capable of taking down afro samurai. He could stun him with the deku nuts then proceed to slice him up. He could use the clawshot to disarm afro then take him down. Provided he can get a good shot he could shoot him with one of his specialty arrows. He can raise the master sword skyward and do a horizontal slice which is very difficult for him to dodge. He could setup nayrus love and then charge him. There are several more weapons in Links arsenal that would work in taking down Afro but I think I have covered enough options.

Dark Link comes to mind, if he can defeat a counterpart of himself multiple times then it shows he can more than handle an equally skilled opponent; Not to mention the fact that he has been trained by characters like Orca or The Hero's Spirit to learn countless sword skills that range from both the offense and defensive side of the spectrum.

Yes he can. Link can activate Nayru's Love to make himself unable to take ANY damage, use the Magic Cape to turn himself invisible, or he could just sit there holding up his Shield with one hand and attacking with the other. He's got bottles of potions that refill his health to perfect condition alongside replenishing all of his magic power and fairies that can revive him if he, for whatever reason, made a mistake in combat.

Link can move very quickly too if he has the Bunny Hood equipped or the Pegasus Boots.

and he'd have to plant a bomb very accurately, and Afro Samurai could probably avoid it as he is quite agile and speedy himself.

He's got Bomb Arrows that he can shoot straight into his target exploding on impact, no need to detonate them the old fashioned way. If has turned himself invisible then all he has to do is get a great shot lined up while Afro is searching for him, leading to an easy kill, especially if the Arrows of Light are used.

Link can Hookshot the sword away from Afro, stun him with Deku Nuts, catch him off guard entirely with the Shield Attack which leaves him open for a sword finisher to finish him off such as the Helm Splitter or Ending Blow. Link has the advantages in this fight both offensively and defensively. As talented as he may be, there is no way Afro could win this fight.

Probably the closest match this round, here's my desperate attempt to help Afro win.

I don't believe Link has ever gone up against a swordsmen such as Afro Samurai. I don't believe he has anything that can really hurt Afro, I don't believe Link is even really faster than Afro. Link has fought nothing but mostly predictable monsters throughout his series of games. You can say he's fought Dark Link but just because he can't beat a clone of himself doesn't mean he's all that powerful to begin with. Are you going to claim Link has ultimate accuracy?

Technically he can't z-target as he isn't allowed outside interference and Link can only target when he has his helper (navi, tatl, midna,fi etc).

I think a lot of people are overrating how powerful Link's simple array of weapons are against an actual human skilled samurai such as Afro.

Afro wins this, not easily, but still a win.

Afro is the greatest swordsman in the world. He would be able to deflect the deku nuts and arrows. He has deflected crossbow bolts in the past, as well as deflecting bullets, and slicing grenades in half in mid flight. Not to mention he has demonstrated to dodge bullets in the past, the arrows are no issue.

It doesn't matter that Link can be brought back to life, if he goes down the fight is over, because he would be incapacitated. Plus the fairies would count as outside assistance I'm sure.

He defeated Justice, who has a healing factor and three arms. He has defeated Jinno, who was so tough he survived jumping off a cliff and being hit with an RPG(something Afro himself also did). You aren't going to distract Afro, Ninja Ninja was never able to do that and he is one of, if not the most distracting character in anime history.

Plus Afro has had his own battles with his evil counterpart. He beat Afro Droid, a cybernetic version of himself.

The thing that helps win this fight though, is the #1 headband. Its grants the wearer godlike power.

Sorry Link, Afro Samurai is just too much for just one person. The Samurai has taken out countless waves of master swordsmen with little to no effort. Samurai's speed and how quickly he strikes makes Samurai the clear cut choice here.

This kind of thing should never be brought into this kind of discussion, especially when you are arguing against the Hero of Time. The #1 headband might grant its wearer some divine powers but it is nothing in comparison to the virtual invincibility that the Fierce Deity Mask bestows on Link. And with the rules as they are, it would be best for the supporters of both competitors to shy away from these.

Afro has no special powers of invulnerability. An explosion, something which Link can easily provide, in the early chapters basically killed him and he has not shown any greater invulnerabilty since then.

All the same arguments that were used against King Arthur are applicable against Afro, except that considering that the Samurai is not the calibre of warrior that King Arthur was, they will be even more effective.

If Link's shield, the Master Sword and Naryu's Love can provide Link with the iron defense needed to deal with Excalibur and the invulnerable Arthur then they have no trouble dealing with Afro and his katana.
