Round 1 Match: Lawrence of Arabia vs. The Pursuit of Happyness

The polls will close for this match on Friday, October 19 at 12:00am

A battle of one of the best modern day dramas, against one of the all-time classic films in Lawrence of Arabia. Will Smith's performance as a father living on the streets with his son (played by his actual son) is touching, deep and sometimes disturbing in the emotion the cast puts into their characters. But its opponent is still considered one of the best, after 50 years circulation. Can Smith's showing move past Arabia's 7 Academy wins?

Pursuit of Happyness was an average at best movie. For how long it is Lawrence of Arabia is remarkably interesting. Now that isn't to say it is a truly great movie because it is damn near 4 hours long and some parts aren't as gripping as others but there are a lot of good things about it such as the visuals and O'Toole's performance among many others. If there was even one good thing about it, then it would be superior to the alternative.

The Pursuit Of Happyness is a typical "true story" Hollywood drama, and this same type of film usually pops up during Oscar season. It's bland, sappy, and it's not a clear-cut choice for Will Smith's best performance. Ali, I Am Legend, and it might've been a shameless attempt at an Oscar nomination, but Smith delivers a strong emotional performance in Seven Pounds.

Lawrence Of Arabia is one of the most influential films in the history of cinema. It's a timeless classic, Lawrence Of Arabia earned ten Oscar nominations, and Lawrence Of Arabia is the epitome of epic filmmaking. Plus, Peter O'Toole is a stronger leading man. Better acting, better directing, fantastic scores, and mesmerizing cinematography. Lawrence Of Arabia is far superior to The Pursuit Of Happyness in every way.
