Lots of people say they're a Christian because it's the socially expected thing to do. My father claims to be one. He owns porn, has been married five times and has cheated on at least four of his wives. If he is indeed a Christian, he's got a funny way of acting like one.

I'm inclined to believe it's a personal vendetta. I wonder why. 
No. I'm well aware that people are both liars and hypocrites. However, I consider religion to be something defined by what you believe. If you honestly believe that Jesus Christ is our savior then congratulations you are a Christian. Being a Christian doesn't require you to go to church or not be an asshole. You can believe in every word of the bible but prefer practicing your religion at home rather than in an uncomfortable wooden pew surounded by strangers in an old, cold and draughty building. For the latter, it's perfectly possible to be a completely bigoted asshole without being religious, you just justify your hate in a different way. Assholes are assholes regardless of what they believe.
