Rey's suspension story

Hacksaw Highway

Getting Noticed By Management
So apparently WWE has loudly announced Rey Rey's suspension unlike they normally do, and everybody assumes this is because Rey pissed them off, but what if there is a second possibility? WHat if this is to lead to a Rey vsa Punk storyline? Telling everybody that Rey does drugs gives Punk a reason to feud with him, and Rey is still a big name who could give Punk more credibility as champ (assuming Taker doesn't win it first). Rey has the ability to move from midcard to main event, so it really wouldn't hurt him to lose to Punk, but it could be a big feud win for Punk who will be dominated by Taker wether he wins the feud or not. Your thoughts?

You know, I actually hadn't thought of that. Them going public with anybody's wellness policy failure is a little out of character for the WWE (usually it's the wrestler him/herself that does that) but now that you mention it, everything that gets reported tends to happen for a reason, and affect the general storylines.

If Punk does bring it up, naturally it'll add more ammunition. Besides that, this'll give Rey another underdog angle to work with. Could actually work in his favor.

thats an interesting idea. it definetly sets up a solid world title feud. however i think there is a better way to have approached that idea. purposely pointing out rey's drug use could hurt his underdog, fight to the end image for the kiddies and parents, cuz no one respects ppl with needle's in their ass. if they wanted to establish a punk mysterio feud i think it would have been more effective to bring up his associates drug use ( if eddie guerrero would be too offensive, he was known to align with batista) this way mysterio is still seen as a respected athlete, but can feud with it. i just can't believe that wwe would risk merch sales of mysterio by making him a druggie on purpose for an angle. i think wwe is just making a swift example that they are willing to suspend anyone who violates the wellness policy, no exceptions (which is obviously BS)

It's an interesting idea. If this ultimately was the intention of the WWE and was Rey flunking the Wellness Policy was all a work then I'd have to say it was a brilliant move. But, I highly doubt that's the situation.

With the Benoit tragedy and lots of former WWE wrestlers from the past coming forward and talking about rampant drug use within the company, the WWE really looked bad and they've made all sorts of adjustments to the Wellness Policy over the years to show that they're serious about it. To use the policy, in this way, as part of an angle really would undermine the credibility of the entire program to some.

However, as unlikely as it is, I'd be happy if the whole thing turned out to be a work. Honestly, it's nearly impossible for wrestling to keep anything secret anymore and this would be quite a little accomplishment for the company.

Wow, that never even crossed my mind. I think mostly because it seems like the timing isn't exactly right for it. I could see them doing that after Breaking Point where Rey would drop the IC title, but not like this where he won't even be at the PPV.

But I think it would definitely set up a pretty interesting angle with Punk and Mysterio. It's perfect for furthering Punk's argument that the crowd is getting behind a drug abuser and not someone like Punk who makes clean choices, etc, etc.

Yep, well spotted man. I always thought that this came right out of nowhere and that I never really believed that Rey did drugs. I mean, he probably does if they suspended him for it but with the way Eddie died or the way Chris Benoit killed his family on drugs, do you think he would do that. Especially considering how close he was to Eddie?

Nevertheless, it is completely up in the air for the time being and we may never know. I just think it is a bit risky. Saying someone is a drug cheat in their career can harm them in the future and must be seriously thought about. Plus, they just got off this stroyline with Hardy and Punk is feuding with Taker. I don't think this is the case but it's a good idea nonetheless.

I doubt the whole thing is a work, but they could definitely be heading that way. He could probably be back it time to interfere in Punk's match at HIAC maybe, and start a fued. They could definitly do that. I'm leaning towards them just using Rey as an example to the younger guys.
