Tony Garea (NZL) vs The British Bulldog (UK)

This match will be a Throw in the Towel Match.

In Bulldog's corner will be The Dynamite Kid Tom Billington.

In Garea's corner will be Rick Martel.

This is a first round Spin the Wheel, Make the Deal Match in the 2010 Wrestlezolympics. The only way to win this match is to make your opponent's corner person throw in the towel, signifying the end of the match. In this case, each man's most successful tag team partner will be in their respective corners.

The match will open for discussion on Tuesday, January 26th, and voting will begin on Wednesday, January 27th. This is a non-spam thread, so if you decide to post, you must provide reasons why you are backing a particular wrestler. You may vote without posting.

This is a tough one to call because of the towel x-factor.

On one hand, Billington and Smith are counrty-mates, and I doubt Billington would cost the UK a match.

On the other hand, I think Billington and Smith were closer friends than Garea and Martel, so it may effect Billington more if Smith is being dismantled.

This may simply come down to which man is going to be able to inflict more punishment on the other, so I am still torn. Would someone care to convince me? Or has the stipulation sucked the intregue out of this match?

I think having Billington in his corner seals the deal on this on. Though they were cousins , Tom didnt really care for Davey as much as you might think and he hated to lose. The Bulldog was also a more accomplished singles wrestler than Tony Garea. Not to take anything away from Tony who was a solid wrestler and multi - time tag champion. I see this as a good solid matchup but in the end the power of the Bulldog combinded with Billingtons unwillingness to throw the towel for the sake of country , pride and just the desire to win will end in a victory for the UK

Haha, Billington would have been fine with seeing Davey bleed out thne lose. Billington would never have accepted a lose, especially from his cousin. With the power behind Bulldog however, it wouldnt matter. Bulldog had 10 minutes of brute force. The only way Tony has a shot is if this match were to ever go long, knowing Bulldog's lack of endurance and Garea's strong endurance. But it would never get that far.

Yeah this is Bulldog's. I mean think about it: Dynamite is Chris Benoit with a British accent. Do you think he would throw in the towel barring SMith losing a limb? Garea would be screaming for mercy and Martel would throw it in. Garea was good, but Bulldog might be the best to ever come from England off the top of my head. Easy win here.

Damn, this isn't good for the ANZAC team.

Garea and Martel were no doubt a successful team where Tony gained much of his popularity from and grew as a wrestler. They certainly have mutual respect for each other and would not let anything bad happen to each other. This alone would favour Davey Boy Smith to gain the victory, because I am not sure whether Billington would actually throw in the towel.

Unfortunately as a proud Australian, I vote Smith to advance.

The British Bulldog would win this. Dynamite Kid wrestled himself into a wheelchair, and if he doesn't know when to quit himself, then he certainly isn't going to see it in anybody else. Coupled in with the fact that Smith was more of a brute than Garea, I think this match is clearly headed in the UK's direction.

Taking into account the fact that Martel is in the corner, and let us not forget that Martel spent numerous years in New Zealand wrestling for Steve Rickard. So his allegiance to New Zealand is in little doubt. Martel while predominately a tag wrestler was an accomplished singles wrestler, he won Rookie of the year. He could do a large amount of damage to Davey boy with the use of the Octopus Stretch. So it wouldn't be too hard to see Davey Boy get taken out due to submission.

I don't think the towel plays much of a factor here. Neither team is simply going to throw the match unless they're getting absolutely freaking hammered. So, I think it'd be easiest to just look at it as a 1 on 1 match, which I'd have to give to Bulldog. He has the power and better track record of success that would be enough to give him the win here.
