Rate a Superstar: Zack Ryder

FutureChamp328

King of the Spear
It's back!!! I started this awhile ago but never ended up continuing it so heres the rules again:

Anybody who plays the Smackdown vs Raw games knows that each superstar in the game is given a skill rating based on several attributes. What I want is to take this to the next level and have you all put in you're own ratings on the real superstars and then give an overall based on those ratings. Now to do this you will need to do it from a point of view that kayfabe is reality so just suspend belief for a few minutes and pretend it's all real again. There are 8 categories and they are:

  • Strength
  • Durability
  • Speed
  • Hardcore
  • Submission
  • Technical
  • Charisma
  • Stamina

So here's our subject for the week he internet darling himself Zack Ryder:

So what would you give Ryder for ratings in the 8 areas above on a scale of 1 to 10? Also please explain your answers. When you are done add all the numbers together and divide by 8 to get you're overall rating for Ryder and comment on how accurate you think it is.

Ready GO!

Strength - There's no doubt in my mind it takes a lot to Scoop Slam your opponent so he's got to be strong. However, in comparison to other WWE Superstars, he's probably about a 3. That's taking nothing away from Zack Ryder; he's just not someone who uses a lot of power maneuvers.

Durability - I feel like he can last a while in a match if he needed to. Probably around a 5.

Speed - He looks pretty fast. However, I wouldn't exactly compare hm to someone like Evan Bourne or Sin Cara. But the dude looks as if he can run and move pretty damn fast. I'd give him a 6.

Hardcore - We've seen him in WWE's version of ECW, but he stayed away from weapons for the most part. I'd say a 4. He could probably get down and dirty if he needed to but I still haven't seen I'm do it too much.

Submission - I'm sure he can perform a well-executed Headlock or armbar but I wouldn't say he's a Submission Specialist. I wouldn't even put him above par. I'd say a 2.

Technical - He can sell pretty well, he can perform some good moves and he's often underrated in the ring so I'll give him a 7.

Charisma - 10. If there's anyone who deserves a 10 in this category it's Zack Ryder. He has charisma coming out the ass - there's no denying it.

Stamina - Have we ever saw a Zack Ryder match lasting more then ten minutes? A bit hard to grade other than the few he had in WWECW. Stamina - 6.

•Strength:

For a 200 something pound wrestler, he has a few moves in the power game and can lift some heavy guys like Swagger, but like Hammler said, I am going to have to rate him a 3

•Durability:

There is doubt in this area because we haven't seen him work a 10 minute match but I will him a 7 because of how much work Zack put in to getting his push. Not many Superstars have that kind of durablity against the WWE machine.

•Speed:

He's not Sin Cara or Even Bourne in the ring, but he does have a ton of hops if his finisher is a jumping Senton. I will give him a 6

•Hardcore:

Was he in WWEECW? Yes, did he ever perform in a hardcore match? No. Sorry Zack, you only get a 2 in this category.

•Submission:

Zack Ryder is not a submission specialist by any means. But he does sell it well so I will give him a 4 in this area.

•Technical:
Zack is a damn talented wrestler in the ring. He can tell a story in the ring and sells very well, which is something you learn when you job to Hornswoggle on Superstars, A 6 here Zack.

•Charisma:

This is a formality, Zack Ryder obviously deserves a 10 for how much character he exumes whenever he walks out on that stage. His internet show is gold every week and has more personalty than anybody not named Cena or CM Punk.

•Stamina:

Zack Ryders move-set doesn't demand for a whole lot of gas for him to be effective in the ring. But to say he doesn't have the stamania to be in the mid-card would be insane, to be safe, I am going to give him a 5.

Tallying up my scores, Zack Ryder is rated a 5.3

I was hoping Zack would have scored at least around a 6 but sadly he hasn't done enough in the WWE to command a high score like CM Punk or Cena has on these forums. Maybe this following year he gets his time to shine in the spotlight with all the gimmick PPV's like the Royal Rumble and Survivor Series.

Strength:
7/10

Durability:
8/10, hes able to do his show, tweet and make WWE appearances :)

Speed:
8/10, like most wrestlers his size he can do some athletic stuff.

Hardcore:
5/10, doubt hes hardcore but I reccon he can work at that.

Submission:
4/10 not seen a submission from him.

Technical:
7/10 he can work in the ring and thats whats required.

Charisma:
10/10 WWWYKI!

Stamina:
8/10 he has short matches but he looks good condition and might be able to go for longer with his youth.

Overall, hes got a bright future especially with the work hes put in over the last year :)

LOL at the people giving him a 3/10 in strength. You know in the video games all the women had strength of atleast 4-5/10. lol. Your saying hes weaker than a woman?

•Strength.....7 Average
•Durability....5 Because he loses every match.
•Speed........7 Average
•Hardcore...1 Never seen him use a weapon or do anything hardcore
•Submission..4 Because he dies in 2 seconds but can do a headlock..lol
•Technical.....4....Yeah...he sucks
•Charisma.....8...Gets a good reaction, but isnt huge yet.
•Stamina.......5 Because he dies in every match.

Overall: 41 LOL

I'm gonna pick apart some of your ratings.

If Zack Ryder loses every match, then why has he beaten Dolph Ziggler 3 weeks in a row, and even on Smackdown last night in the tag team match? He was also getting a fairly big push in WWECW. Yeah, maybe on Superstars he lost every week, but on Raw, Smackdown, and even ECW when it matters the most, he wins a good percentage of his matches.

I played a lot of SVR and this is what I think his rating is:
•Strength 75/100 - Average strength.
•Durability 80/100 - He seems to be durable at some point.
•Speed 80/100 - He got speed but do not stand out.
•Hardcore 65/100 - Haven't seen him do hardcore.
•Submission 70/100 - I don't think his holds can hurt.
•Technical 75/100 - He can reverse some moves.
•Charisma 90/100 - Got a lot of reaction from crowd.
•Stamina 80/100 - His match last only a few minutes but I believe this rating is just right.

Overall Rating: 77

Huge Ryder fan. I'll be as unbiased as I possibly can.

Strength - 7.5/10 . I mean he's no Cena, HHH, Kane or Swagger who are all in the 9s. But have you seen Ryder's arms? Pretty big! He doesn't do many powerful moves but hey he's only a 6'1 215 lb guy. He's technically an all arounder.. He's above guys like Jericho, Christian, Morrison but maybe somewhere near Edge and Orton who's a lot slimmer than how he use to be before his viper gimmick.

Durability - 8/10 . He was used every week on superstars, hasn't really been injured yet. I think that's good, it makes him very reliable, unlike guys like Cena and Edge who are pretty injury prone. But I think it's too soon to tell.

Speed - 7/10 Like I said, hes 6'1" 215lb. Pretty good size to be fast and to have mass. He's able to move quick in the ring. Not Mysterio or Sin cara quick, but faster than others. He's in great shape too.

Hardcore - 1/10. He was in WWECW but wasn't too hardcore as they kinda stopped with the extreme rules matches..He got pretty aggressive with his opponents as a heel, but Ive never seen him use a weapon.

Submission - 5/10. Can apply a good head lock or a hold, but he's not really the guy to make someone submit. Will he ever have a submission move? Probably not.

Technical - 7.5/10 . He's got great timing. Doesnt botch. Needs to expand his moveset though. As I love watchnig Ryder in the ring, the only move that make you say "damn, that must of hurt" is his broski boot. Hes good in the ring no doubt. I like the Rough Ryder but I think the Zack Attack, was a lot better and more convincing. He needs a power move like a spine buster. I dont remember the last time he used his Tiger bomb, look up tiger bomb on youtube, one of the first videos to come up is the one he did on christian. looked like it hurt, he should use that more, but not in every match..Maybe go up on the top rope, do his LI with his hands or first pump saying woo woo woo, and do an elbow drop? That would be nice. RR would make a pretty good signature move though. Maybe even do it from the top rope once in a while, that would be a great spot for some of his matches. But hey, he's still very young, and has a lot of time to learn new moves and to use them.

Charisma - 10/10. Do I need a reason?

Stamina - 8/10 . He's young, fit and healthy. He has great stamina.

He's got a bright future ahead of him. I can't wait to see it.

I'm a Ryder mark, but I'm honest about his deficiencies. Or at least I think I am lol. I'll give this a shot - it would be interesting to get a consensus on everyone's opinion.

Strength - 6: Maybe the toughest criteria. He's not a powerhouse, but he's not Spike Dudley. To me, he's just above average right now. As he puts on more muscle mass and gives the impression of power, this will change. But part of his appeal is that he's beatable, so strength is a factor in that.

Durability - 6.5: His consecutive week disappearances from the ring play into this - Cena and Orton would get 10s because they work Raw and Smackdown and PPVs, for example. Still, I would assume 6 is the average for his weight class (4 being the average for the super heavyweight class) and he's slightly above average here again.

Speed - 7.5: I want to give him an 8 here, but I think he's not *that* quick. His boot to the face move does involve some speed, as does his finishing move. I wish athleticism was an attribute, I think he would score strongly on that... hell, why not...

Athleticism - 8.5

Hardcore - N/A: Non-factor, he should not be judged on this as its outside the realm of his persona.

Submission - 5.5: Does he have anything beyond a rest hold? This speaks to his lack of technique.. speaking of which...

Technique - 5.5: Not the second coming of Bret Hart. He's very sloppy with his moves and lacks a fluidity that the most polished wrestlers have (Orton for example). More matches mean better technique, so hopefully this improves.

Charisma - 9: Not a 10. Yes, he's entertaining but lets not get carried away - who cared about Ryder before his internet show? Doesn't the fact that we collectively ignored his ass show the limits of his charisma? What about his in-ring promos, has he been flawless like CM Punk and his pipebombs? Ryder doesn't have the star power - yet. But he's developing a niche for himself. If he can show depth in his character, it will prove to me that he's more charismatic. Otherwise, I think this is a fairly generous rating.

Stamina - 7.5: I gave him a good score because he never seems gassed or tired. I'm sure he could wrestle a 25 minute match with relative ease. Unfortunately he doesn't have the moveset to warrant it - yet.

Overall score - 7: I think that's fair. He's a star in the making and I think this score is an example of exceeding expectations. For comparison's sake, when Edge was 26, he held the IC title for one day and started his "cool dudes" gimmick with Christian.

The biggest difference between Zack Ryder and any other superstar is his Intangibles, which isn't a video game factor but a real-life factor. Zack Ryder is a beloved internet sensation who kids and grown-ups both adore. It takes a mature and stoic person to be that guy, especially at 26. For another comparison, using 26-year old Randy Orton, Orton was talking shit about the recently departed Eddie Guerrero for cheap heat and suspended for smoking weed backstage despite co-headlining WrestleMania 22.

Ryder will be something special if he keeps improving, but that's the thing - he needs to improve. He's still a couple years away from being an upper-midcarder and a few years away from being a main eventer.

Since this is for a video game I assume were talking about the character in the WWE and not the person playing the character.

Strength - 6.5 - He's actually looking pretty damn fit these days. For sure the best he has ever looked. He's got a decent amount of strength.

Durability - 6.5 - He's lost a lot of matches, obviously he still looks weak... I guess that's why him winning usually turns into a big deal?

Speed - 8 - Maybe pushing it a tad. But he has looked fairly quick in the ring from time to time.

Hardcore - 0 - Uh well he hasn't really gotten hardcore? This really shouldn't be a category and it isn't in the WWE games anymore... IDK.. hard to judge a mans hardcore ability when he has never had a hardcore match.

Submission - 6 - Haven't really seem him do to many submissions, but I haven't watched him much. I just give him the basic for being able to work a sleeper hold?

Technical - 7 - I think that he really isn't too shabby in the technicality depart if you compare him to most guys these days. He's actually better than probably half the WWE roster.

Charisma - 9.5 - I think he's just loaded with charisma. Always trying to entertain in some way. His you tube channel speaks for itself.

Stamina - 7 - He's been hanging in matches lately. He looks fit... sames like a fair choice.

I don't know how to calculate the overall and I'm sure it wouldn't be what I expect it to be... but when I think of Zack Ryder in a WWE video game I think of him having an 80 rating..

Strength - He looks fairly strong, but compared to a lot of other superstars, he's somewhat lacking. I don't think I've even seen him hit a suplex. He looks ripped so I'll give him a 6.5.

Durability - He's gotten beat up by The Undertaker, Batista and some of the "Heavyweights". He hasn't won and he hasn't been in a match where "he just kept getting back up for more". But I'll give him a 6.5

Speed - He's ripped. And ripped guys are usually just strong guys without a lot of mass. Without the mass he's certainly agile, he's no Morrison, but I'm sure he's fast enough for an 8

Hardcore - Although he was in WWECW, I don't think he was ever in an extreme rules or hardcore match. He was never champion there either, but I'll give him a 5, just because he was Tommy Dreamer's last WWECW opponent.

Submission - I have NOT seen more than a headlock or chinlock from this guy, I may be wrong...but, I dont think so. I'll give him a 4.5

Technical - He's a good seller, he isn't too stiff and he executes his grapple moves fine. I'll give him a 7.5

Charisma - 8.5 I know a lot of people have given him a 10, but I don't really feel it. Though he has plenty of "mic charisma" his body movements and expressions just don't sell it for me.

Stamina - Stamina, judging by his WWECW days, he can last for quite while in the ring. I'll give him a solid 7

Overall: 79

Good Midcard Rating. :)

Strength- Ryder has been pushed solidly for the last month or so, and has come off against Ziggler (singles and six-man) looking strong, but was ordinary against Swagger (six-man only). Ziggler isn't a bastion of strength either... 4/10
Durability- Considering his efforts against the same two opponents, getting beaten down by Swagger, to come back and own the US champ, he gets some points here... 7/10
Speed- Hasn't really shown anything special... 4/10
Hardcore- 0/10
Submission- 0/10
Technical- For a somewhat joke character, his abilities in the ring are very underrated, and whilst he is no Daniel Bryan, his efforts should be acknowledged... 6/10
Charisma- Well this is why you even start a thread about the man. This is something he has in spades, second only to The Miz in my opinion... 10/10
Stamina- Well, I'm hoping he feuds with Ziggler over the US title soon, and I hope that we get to see some reasonably lengthy matches to showcase whether or not he has any stamina. At this stage, he has not displayed much... 5/10

Total... 36/80

I will never understand what kind of Charisma can someone see on Zack Ryder. Maybe it's just because I find his current gimmick way too annoying in a bad way (the same feeling many people seem to have towards Michael Cole).

57 out of 80 = 71.25 overall

I gave him the highest marks in Charisma because it is through the roof in real life. His speed is above average and his time on ECW with guys like Tommy Dreamer helped him get a feel for hardcore match types. He needs a little work in Submission and Technical but those skills can be learned in time. His durability is also low due to how he has been booked, like a jobber until very recently. Once he gets to win more often that stat should increase.
