Pre-Wrestlezone Tournament Picks

I fully support The Rock. The motherfucker's beaten Stone Cold, Hulk Hogan, & John Cena at WrestleMania.

Batista was robbed the past two years. Robbed, I tell ya.

People said there was no way Batista would beat Flair in a Last Man Standing Match. Ha.

Don't get me started on the First Blood match he lost to the Undertaker in last year's tournament.
Fuck off. I was there in the trenches fighting harder and longer than anybody would deem dignified in that Flair match.

I'm not sure I could ever campaign in Hogan's favor, unless he was up against somebody like Charlie Haas, where his accomplishments alone are enough to get him by. I don't like Hogan - never have, never will. You can feed me all the lines about respecting what he's done for the business, the NWO and all that junk. You're right... Bottom line is I just don't LIKE Hulk Hogan. I think he was a right place/right time type of guy, and that his success was more Vince McMahon's understanding of culture and capitalization than it EVER was Hogan's talent. But, that's just me. I got "into" wrestling after that age, and I've always had an appreciation for the "real" wrestlers; guys like Bret Hart, Mr. Perfect, Shawn Michaels, etc. I also HATE pro-America, pro-Republican, pro-flag twirling circle jerk gimmicks though, so you have to take that into consideration too...

Personally, if I don't end up weighing each match objectively, I'll probably fight CM Punk as far as I can, realizing there's no way for him to actually WIN. I will say that John Cena stands a decent chance this year - a lot of the IWC seems to be behind him more than usual. Another likely choice for me has to be Eddie Guerrero, as he was my first favorite, and overall I think one of the most charismatic and passionate men to ever compete in a wrestling ring.

Rock, Brock, Punk and maybe even Cena, should be going further than normal, though in saying that, Lesnar was in the final four last time if I recall correctly.

1. So what you're saying is that Vince could have gotten any old guy to be Hulk Hogan?

2. I scoff at your "real" wrestler line.

No, of course not. Hogan responded the way he did to the gimmick, the spotlight, the media, the push, etc. Hogan had the right look. Hogan had the motivation to keep going and be one of the biggest stars in the world during his time. Vince McMahon's genius only goes so far, and if there isn't a willing, deeply motivated individual on the other side, odds are nothing happens. I look at Hogan the same way a lot of people see John Cena: I resepct his work ethic, respect his passion for the business, and I respect his accomplishments and furthering of the industry - I just DON'T LIKE HIM. I want to be clear that my perspective and lack of interest in Hogan doesn't stem from a mark-induced hatred from his time in TNA, or some bullshit about him sinking WCW. All that drama means virtually nothing to me - I don't like Hogan as a character. I don't find him interesting. There are very few classic matches of his that I ever want to re-watch. Plain and simple.

2. I scoff at your "real" wrestler line.

It was in quotes for a reason.
