Fairly simple. An amazing video montage in Rocky IV, brought to us with the song No Easy Way Out by Robert Tepper.

This scene in Rocky always makes me get pumped up. All of the flashbacks that Rocky is having, coupled with the song makes it amazing, and a very inspirational scene for me particularly.

Bullet For My Valentine did the cover. I'm sure at first glance some of you may think, oh BFMV, it's going to be a fair amount of screaming and kill the song. You are dead wrong, and they do a great job in my opinion.

Both versions are awesome. Robert Tepper's original is truly a classic, and made for a hell of a scene. Bullet For My Valentine did a hell of a cover, and Matt Tuck sounded really good on vocals. For me, I would put Bullet For My Valentine's version over Robert Tepper's. In terms of actual music, I feel that BFMV's version is better. But I can't in all good conscience actually do that to Robert Tepper. The song is what makes the scene in Rocky so great, and the scene is also what makes the song so great.

So I am sort of split on the subject, just listening to the song, I would rather have Bullet For My Valentine playing. But whenever I see the clip from Rocky IV playing, it has to be the Robert Tepper version. I don't mean to try a cop out, but that is how I feel.

I am probably not the best to point my view on these, being that I have never really watched many of the Rocky films- I don't actually recognise the origonal so both songs hit me as a fairly blank canvas :)

In this instance, I have to give it to the cover. As you said yourself, nostalgia and pumped up images make the origonal for you and I am bereft of those. The origonal just sounds like a normal 80's rock song with nothing really to catch my interest. The cover wins, simply becuase it is heavier and thus the music seems that little bit more vital, but even it seems to be missing that extra edge. Perhaps its becuase its not his own song or something. So yeah, to the cover this time :)

Bullet For My Valentine has done a ton of covers, and they're all great. This is no exception. However, I have top go with the original, even if it is a generic 80's movie song. The way it was used in the film is genius, and it almost fades into the scene, instead of standing out, and overpowering it. The cover is definitely better musically, and Matt Tuck is a great vocalist, but the original wins based on nostalgia alone.
