maybe thats why they took the title off him so fast?

"im going to kick your butt" to PUNK while on commentary

uhhhhh yeah, someone get him a script..STAT

He was decent on the mic, not tonight, but he gets stale. He doesn't have improv skills like HHH, Punk, Cena, Y2J, etc. He needs to stick to a script. I think he should try working on that.

The main issue is Del Rio's promo's lack conviction. It's jut hard to take anyhing he says seriously. Which is fine to a lesser extent when he's trying to be the coniving, cocky aristocrat. But whenever he tries to ratchet up the intensity it usually just falls flat. His deliver just never match is attitude and seems almost ametuerihs at times. By in large his promos are very shallow, still consisiting of the whole "destiny" sthick(which has just run it's course) and little to no character growth. All of his monologes just seem one size fits all. It doesn't matter who he's addressing, he jut says the same thing. And forgettable, seriosuly he can cut a promo at the beginning of Raw, and i'll forget it by the end.

Honestly, his commentary was pretty bad, and his closing lines were just cringe inducing in just how utterly generic and uncomfortable it sounded. In a way it seems like he's actually regeressed, or at least it appears he was better at masking his weaknesses when he first debuted and shortly thereafter. Ever since his angle with Edge it's just gotten worse. The charisma, I think is there. His mannerism, looks and demeanor all seem to already be established, but it just all goes down once he opens his mouth.

you guys are basing this on one line and one night? as opposed to the months of decent mic work? C'Mon....

Months?? I haven't seen or heard anything decent from Del Rio since he's been in WWE. He's boring. Boring on the mic and boring in the ring. But hey, that's just me.. :)

Agree. His "decent mic skills" is really decent. For the last month He has been saying the the same old ssss about his destiny and better than everybody else. It gets old very fast. Del Rio was nonexistent when he was with cena and punk in the same ring.

Del Rio doesnt really have much to offer in the ring. Lets face it.

I like Del Rio. He has great wrestling ability. His mannerisms are great.

But when he opens his mouth he just completely loses me. Any intensity he's shown, any brilliant in ring work he's put on, it all just goes out the window when he makes a statement "yeah..I'm gonna kick your butt" or goes on another schtick about destiny for the 10th month straight.

Nope, that's not just you. I strongly agree as well. This guy just doesn't click with me. I hope he gets dropped back to the mid-card scene fast.

FINALLY SOMEONE ELSE SEES THAT HE SUCKS ON THE MIC BESIDES ME! now that i got tht out of my system...i agree with the original poster the whole "im going to kick your butt" line made me lmfao as punk just mocked him and made him seem like a joke plus del rio just cant hang with cm punk and john cena when it comes down to it both are better then him on the mic and better then him in the ring (thats right someone who hates supercena and an internet fan gave cena credit shocking huh? :lmao:) but the only reason del rio was left standing over cena and punk on raw is because cena is the champ and hes supercena people know hes gonna probably win on sunday and punk gets the loudest reaction along with cena each and every week on raw del rio needed to lay them out to get any reaction im glad his push probably ends sunday when cena or punk walks out with the wwe title and then maybe we get lucky and get 1 more amazing battle out of cena and punk at vengance?

Its getting increasingly hard for me to hear Del Rio speak. Every time he says "destiny", I cringe and yawn at the same time. Stone Cold said Orton was one dimensional; I wonder what he thinks about Del Rio. Half a dimension? A third of a dimension? I like Del Rio's ring work, but as a character he's just a boring broken record with no real dynamic attributes. Maybe its just his command of the English language that limits him. He trash talks plenty in Spanish, calling opponents dogs among other things, but his exchanges with other superstars seems very forced.

I tend to agree with you, though I also think the problem is that a lot of the heels in WWE today are all the same. They are cocky and all think they are the best - but then against a John Cena or something else important, they easily turn into Elmer Fudd where they get tricked or fall for a stupid zinger that only a 9 year old would find offensive.

Del Rio is the rich aristocratic from Mexico, but asides from that background and the fact that he dresses nice and has a different entrance than everyone else, he really isn't all that different from Swagger, Ziggler, Christian, etc.

At least in recent weeks, Ziggler's promos have actually been good and he is starting to stand out, in my opinion.

And, oh my gosh, at least we know why some guys need a script. Del Rio on commentary was just awful. Painfully bad.

I really enjoy his work in the ring and he carries himself very well as a heel but his promos only induce boredom. I think he should just cut his promos in Spanish. He is probably more comfortable that way. Plus by refusing to speak English he will be even more hated by American crowds. However, keep them short because you don't want Americans to think they turned on Telemundo by accident.

Here's the thing. I know all of us in the IWC are armchair quarterbacks who at times are overly critical of the action and the superstars, as if we could somehow do better. And I'm as guilty of that as anyone. But in my opinion, I see little to no appeal in ADR from any perspective. I think his in ring work is barely average. He's horrible on the mic, largely because of his inability to improvise as someone else already suggested. I think he is operating with an old and tired gimmick which has been done by others before him, and much better. I'm not suggesting he should be future endeavored or anything drastic like that, but he is the personification of the IWC concept of someone who's "not ready" for the main event. Put him in there with Punk, or Cena, or Triple H, or anyone like that, and he's clearly outclassed and unable to hold his own. Don't give me the BS about a heel persona, I understand the concept of a heel quite fine, I just don't think he's a particularly good one. Look beyond the personal ring announcer and the cars, and there's really not much else. At least not for me.

Not just one line, it's more like months and months of the same predictable promos. And the way he delivers them with no real emotion affects it's believability. If you were to write a promo of his usual tirade, I bet 9 times out of 10, he'd utter the same lines word for word.

He does occasionally say a few funny lines, but overall he lacks improvement. Maybe over time with a decent catchphrase or two that will change, but for now he upholds the status quo of being predictable and lame. Half the time his ring announcer is more intelligable and charismatic, and that's not a good thing.
