Official Unoffical Wrestlezone Tag Team Tournament 2 Discussion Thread

Why? Because you can't think of anything to refute my arguement?
NO I thought I'd let you respond to that first

Lets break it down Title Reigns and feuds

Smokin Gunns: 3 Tag title reigns. Their first feud was against The Heavenly Bodies. It went on Until the team of The Gunns, Luger, Mabel & Adam Bomb were defeated by the Tam of King Kong Bundy, Tatanka, Bigelow and The Heavenly Bodies. Their first title reign came when they defeated Bob Holly and 1-2-3 Kid. They lost the titles at WM XI to Owen Hart and Yokozuna, but won them back on Sept, 25th. They had to forfeit the title's due to a neck Injury suffered by Billy. They won had their Last title reign by defeating the Goddwinns at In Your House 8. They lost the titles to Owen Hart and The British Bulldog in September and split up after that.

New Age Outlaws: 3 Tag title Reigns. The team formed when Billy Gunn smashed a guitar over the head of the Honky Tonk Man. They won there first Tag Team titles when they defeated LOD. That same night they were officially dubbed The Outlaws. They quickly became on of the most hated Tag Teams in the WWE.T hey feuded with Mick Foley (in all three of his personas) and Chainsaw Charlie (Terry Funk). They would lose the Tag Titles To Foley and Funk in the Infamous Dumpster match at WM XIV. The next night they won the titles Back and officially joined DX. They Lost the titles to Kane & Mankind in the summer of '98 but won them back at SummerSlam. They lost the titles for the last time to Ken Shamrock and Big Boss Man. They then broke up to go after singles gold.

Both Teams held Tag Team Gold 3 times so we need to look at who they feuded with. The Gunns feuded with no one important with the exception of Owen Hart, Yokozuna and The British Bulldog. The NAO on the other hand had feuds with Main Event level Superstars such as Mick Foley and Kane. Throw in there Legends like LOD and Terry Funk and The New Age Outlaws are the obvious choice.

So Owen Hart, Yokozouna, and the British Bulldog aren't major superstars? Hmm...

And just so you know, the New Age Outlaws held the titles 5 times. Shows how awesome they were when you can't even remember two of thier championship reigns.

Please Read the entire sentance. The Gunns feuded with no one important with the exception of Owen Hart, Yokozuna and The British Bulldog.

As for the last two title reigns cut me some slack it's after 2am and I forgot. Thanks for proving my point though. The NAO has held the titles more tiles and had feuds with bigger names.

Number of title reigns means jack. How many of The Rock's World Title reigns actually meant anything? One, maybe two. Pick any one of John Cena's WWE title reigns, and it means more than all of The Rock's title reigns combined.

New Age Outlaws' title reigns were relatively forgettable, with the exception of one reign where I thought they had a decent series of matches with the Hardys.

They still feuded and beat bigger names than the Gunns did. Vince trusted them enough to be one of THE Tag Teams at a time when he was going against WCW.

One of THE tag teams? You mean along with Edge and Christian, The Hardys, The Dudleys, The APA, Too Cool, and the RTC? Yeah, they must had to work real hard to carry that tag team division.

Smokin' Gunns were THE TOP FACES in the tag team division, and they carried that division on their backs. Fact of the matter is that if the Smokin' Gunns hadn't managed to get over and stay over for about three years, the tag division would have been completely monopolized by singles stars pairing up while they wait for IC and World title matches. The tag division would have been dead, and the New Age Outlaws would have been obsolete. Hell, Billy and Road Dogg both probably wold have been released before the formation of DX even began. One of the few reasons NAO had credibility early on was because of Billy Gunn's previous tag team success.

Motorcity Machineguns

There one of the fastest, and high flying tag teams to date. They might not be tag team champs in tna, but they have been before in others. I would put money up aganst any other tag team there weight, That they could beat them.

God, making my pick was fucking hard. I really struggled to make this decision. I was thinking that maybe I should ensure that the modern day Rockers - the Motor City Machine Guns, duh - would get a place in this. Some would say they haven't experienced enough success, in which case I'd go back to the Rockers comparison. I'd then go on to say how they're dangerously original and have come close to spoiling me with their incredibly entertaining and original wrestling skills. Not to mention what Shelley brings to the mic, and what Sabin has the possibility to. I'd then mention how popular they are on these boards and, no matter how far they got, how they'd draw in the posters and we could have a good ol' fashioned discussion. But no, I chose someone else.

I then thought, hey, what about a comparatively obscure team? Maybe I could be one of the cool kids and go about old school. What about the Hollywood Blondes - "Stunning" Steve Austin and "Flyin'" Brian Pillman. A team who I have massive respect for. I don't think others have nearly enough, and there's just not enough awareness. Add to that they experienced just enough success to warrant being entered in and you may just have the perfect choice... But nope. As blond as they were, there were just better choices for me.

Inevitably, I came to thinking about Kurt Angle. Just as inevitably, I came to think about the man who - quite rightfully - causes massive controversy whenever he rears his head - Chris Benoit. It took me a little while to link the two but I just about did; weren't they a tag team for a little while a few years back? Why, yes they were. Collectively, they were known as... Kurt Angle and Chris Benoit. They were pretty damn good for the time they were together to, and held the first ever SmackDown! tag titles. But no, as much as I don't mind not being one of the cool kids, I can't be a complete loner either. This team is just what their name suggests - two individuals, not really a tag team. They'll hopefully find themselves in eventually anyway. They can't be my pick though. AJ Styles and Christopher Daniels experienced a similar fate, but hopefully they'll find their way in too.

No, for my pick, I played it safe... Yet went to the very edge of insanity... SIMULTANEOUSLY! Perhaps I'll be applauded for my bravery, or told off for being a fucking idiot. I decided to play to my strengths and play away from my weaknesses. After all, I am the greatest TNA moderator of all time (no offense Sparky) and I have a really, really shit memory, so try to stick to current issues when debating. So who better to be my pick than...

The Latin American Xchange - Homicide and Hernandez

They have everything I need in a tag team, they really do. To combat some of the idiotic arguments I've experienced before, we have a manager - either Konnan or Salinas and Hector Guerrero, we've got a signature weapon (a fork!? Holy shit!), we've got all the ingredients of a great tag team. And they are a great tag team, make no mistake. A top tier tag team, in my honest opinion. Jake once said TNA's tag team division wasn't anything to write home about. Well, obviously not Jake, who writes home about wrestling? But if I were forced to write home about a tag team (y'know, sort of gun to my head situation) then this would be the one, undoubtedly. This team has something which not many others do, a secret weapon, if you will. It's something which many of the uniform-matching, synchronised tag teams already entered into this tournament don't have. Versatility. A big man and a little man. Either can take you to the mat, jump off the top of a cage, toss you over the ropes or, alas, stick a fork into your head - obviously, they work great together as well. That helps eliminate many weaknesses which most other teams possess in this tournament. We won't be having any "Fuck! What are the odds they'd get that match!?" moments with these guys, I assure you. If I weren't so sure most members were looking for an "old school" team to back, I'd tip these guys as a hot favourite. As it is, I'm hopeful they'll get far.

However, I still urge you to back the following teams and get them in the tournament and hopefully beyond:
- AJ Styles & Christopher Daniels
- The Hollywood Blonds
- The Motor City Machine Guns
- Kurt Angle & Chris Benoit

Well Sam made his pick, and I am going to make my pick, ensuring that Triple H is pretty much left out of this thing and that Brian Pillman is in.

Uncle Shocky selects the Hollywood Blondes.

To make things a little more clear. Think of this as an early nomination round/round 1. You non mods are trying to convince the mod staff to select a team you are trying to get in. We will comprise of roughly half the field that gets in, the next 32 will all be teams you have selected, and then some.

Once the first 32 are picked, then the fun begins. I'll still be looking for at least 50 more teams or so to round out the last 32. I have something in mind, but I'll let you know.

By the end of the weekend, if the mods haven't picked, then the mods that have picked will get a second choice before I open it up to everyone. This is a pre-round 1, the next thing will be round 1.

Oh and a blatant abuse of power and giving credit to where it is due, I am allowing my tag team partner Skullz to select a team of his choice.

Those guys are popular enough that they'll get in anyway. It's the older teams that need the need to be locked into the tourney.

Just a few...

RVD and Sabu
The Eliminators
The Natural Disatsters
Public Enemy

And here's a questionable one, what about the Mega Powers? They border on being a real tag team and more than just two superstars that got paired up as they lasted almost an entire year, but at the same time I still don't know if I'd say they were 100% legit.

Another team I'd like to nominate are the Killer Bees. No they never won a title, no they were never the top team, but look at their stuff with the Harts. They went step for step with them and a lot of the time they were flat out better than the Harts. Their move with the mask was quite innovative for their time. Great high fliers and very overlooked today.

The Killer B's were a fascinating story. They were a top flight tag team, and then after they split, they became "enhancement talent." Would be great if they make it.

The MCMG should be in.They may not have had many titles but have a fuck load of experience.

And what about John Morrison?Should he be in?If so MNM or Miz and Morrison?

Also does anybody know of any teams Mick Foley was part of?I can't for the life of me think of one.
