[OFFICIAL] Edge RETURNS! Won the Royal Rumble / Is going to Wrestlemania thread

Edge is not going to fight Jericho for the World Championship at WrestleMania unless The Rock comes back and fights Cena, DX split, Batista dies and Undertaker fights Kane for the 3rd time. Why? Because the only way that is getting on the card is if it isn't the main event, which it will be.

This is how I see the next few weeks panning out: Edge will wrestle Jericho at Elimination Chamber and win. Jericho will then go into the MITB match at Mania. Meanwhile, the titles will be defended in the two chambers, and I imagine Taker will lose his match and face Michaels again. Edge will probably therefore face Randy Orton, who has almost certainly not turned face, as everyone seems to think, or Batista, which I don't really want to see. I think I need a week or two to assess more fully, but I think Edge's options are quite open at present, but Jericho won't be one of them.

I wouldn't be surprised if the reason Edge won in part is that they could logically keep him out of the Chamber by giving the him a different match, something they have to contend with in the Rumble winners. They had to make Cena cash in early in 2008, which was crap, but they struck gold in having the winner have a continuing storyline in 2009 with Orton and they've done the same this year. Edge's opponent at Mania is out of Batista, Cena, Triple H, Orton and Sheamus, his opponent at Elimination Chamber is going to be Jericho, almost certainly.

All signs point to Jericho vs Edge at Wrestlemania. After all, the seeds were planted for this potential match after Edge got injured and Jericho began insulting him (saying that Edge was the weaker half of the team and whatnot). If WWE decides to go down that path, then Jericho would have to win the World title at Elimination Chamber. Things can always changed of course but I'm leaning more towards this.

ok how would that match be a bore? 2 of the best all around wrestlers in the company fighting at the biggest ppv? im not understanding that one, and i am very sure this match will happen, because any other match wouldnt make sense, and wouldnt be as good. jericho will win at EC and these 2 will have a classic

Best all around worker? Jericho hasn't been good in years and Edge was never a great worker, nor could he handle feuds. If he was a great worker he wouldn't be a transitional champ like he is. Jericho and Edge just doesnt sound like a Mania Main Event in my opinion. Orton and Edge sounds better. And then that opens the door for a lot of other matches to take place. Sheamus will need an opponent and it wont be Cena because he's already dismantled Cena. So I'm guessing HHH or HBK. Honestly, does this sound like a Mania match compared to HHH Cena or Rock and Austin? I don't think so, both stars aren't big enough.

That is actually a good point, although possibly not for the reason you gave.

As many people have noted, Edge isn't back to 100% yet. He seemed to have a bit of ring rust as well. Now, since he's a big name, he would definitely need to take part in an EC match, especially if it was for a title-the one thing in the world that means anything to him. But now, since he's won the rumble, he has no reason to take part in an EC match, which is a damn good thing, cuz with his injuries, he would probably end his career that night.

So, if you follow me, Edge winning the rumble keeps him out of the Chamber and keeps him healthy enough to be a big part of WrestleMania, which Creative clearly wants.

edge will be taking on jericho at wrestlemania.Undertaker is injured anyways and obviously wont lose the belt at wrestlemania, so he drops it to jericho at EC. Also taker and michaels will definitly happen except hhh might get thrown into that match as well. They have invested to much time into the shawn and taker segements to not do the match. Although match needs a stipulation i think. Then look for shemus and cena for the wwe title.

I am GLAD that EDGE won the R. Rumble!!!!!

I want to see Chris Jericho win the World Title from The Undertaker at the next ppv!!!

Hey, Shawn Micheals could cost 'Taker the title.

This allows HBK vs Taker, Edge vs Jericho (for the title)......

or

Taker loses without interference and faces Cena...who is without a WM opponent!!!

HHH vs HBK would be great!!!

PLEASE PLEASE WWE, book Jericho vs Edge...let these 2 tear the house down at WM...

BUT, first, you have to give Jericho a good winning streak building up to the match!!!!

Altho it was predicted, I still MTFO when Edge came in at #29! Even tho I didnt think he would win the whole thing- I cant complain. I cant beleive there are more then a couple of you that dont like the idea of Edge Vs Jericho at Mania! These are 2 of the best workers that WWE has. Both kill on the mic & are fantastic story tellers in the ring.

Plus- I said it as soon as Jericho started talking down to him after the injury, that Edge would come back as a face & turn himself into "the next SCSA or Rock". Obviously those 2 guys are on a level of there own- Im just saying I see Edge being able to turn into a uber-face! He's gold on the mic, and really hasnt been able to use his mic skills fully- just cuz hes been a heel for so long! I remember laughing my ASS of back in the day when Edge & Christian were faces! The 5 seconds of flash photography & all that funny shit they pulled off when they were more "tweeners".

Edge & Jericho- in MY opinion: could potentially be the best match EVER! Not of the year...EVER!! Both are willing to put it all on the line to hear us fans give the "holy shit" chant! Neither of them are upper mid-carders! Give me a fuckin break here! They both been multiple time WWE & World Champions. They both KILL on the mic & are both over-average in the ring! More then I can say for almost everyone else in WWE! I'll put Orton, Christian & Punk on thier level, but thats about it.

HHH & HBK are both JOKES rightnow! Lets lose the DX Merchandise ****ing AND the midget...THEN we'll talk!
Batista as a heel is at least watchable- but still cant touch Egde or CJ in ring or on mic.
Taker- never been a big fan (sorry) great in the ring for a big man- still think his mic skills suck tho!
Cena- Hes good on the mic most of the time. Average to below average in the ring.
Who else is there? Dont even say Rey- thats rediculous! Tiny but good in the ring- but garbage on the mic!

Someone PLEASE give me 2 better all-around "entertainers" then Edge & Jericho- Cuz I dont think these people exsist!!

In your opinion if Jericho hasn't been good in years, how many years has it been since he was a good worker? In 2008 he and Shawn Michaels had feud of the year culminating in their No Mercy Ladder Match for the World Championship. Was he not good then? Last year he and Rey Mysterio had the feud of the year over the Intercontinental Championship trading the belt back and forth. Was he not good then? Then at the tail end of the year Jeri-Show brought prestige back to the tag team titles and he made Big Show relevant again. Was he not a good worker then?

How about Edge? You say he is not a good worker and never has been. That's why WWE has used him in tag teams with five different partners winning gold with all of them,he has been used in the midcard, used in Money in the Bank Ladder Matches, and main event feuds. He gave John Cena the rivalry of his career in 2006, his feud with the Undertaker was must watch tv in 2008. He is a transitional champion because of the character. The Ultimate Opportunist loses the belt but immediately finds another slippery way to get it back. He is a 9 time World Champion since 2006. In fact they gave them Unified Tag Team titles originally becuase they wanted Jericho and Edge to wrestle on all three shows thats how highly they think of them. It wasn't a power play to hold the titles before they retire like DX. The Colons only wrestled on Raw. Jeri-Show was just a quick fix for Rated Y2J. Oh yes the titles were given to Edge & Jericho because creative had immense faith in them to improve ratings on all three shows. Then Edge got injured.

I agree Edge/Jericho isn't a money making main event match for Wrestlemania. But I don't wanna see Edge/Cena again, or Edge/Batista for that matter those matches have been done to death. I'd love to see Edge/Orton but Randy would have to win back the title. Edge/HHH would be good as long as Edge wins which is a long shot, and I still don't buy Sheamus as a Wrestlemania Main Eventer. So Im gonna say Orton win the belt at EC and Edge beats Jericho then beats Orton at Wrestlemania.

Umm...correct me if Im wrong...but I dont think either of those 2 guys have wrestled in a WWE ring in quite a while. IM not talking about retired people. IM talking about guys working in the business RIGHTNOW.

WOW! :banghead:

Maybe if you would have stated that earlier, people wouldn't have misunderstood it. A little hint for next time.

There seems to be plenty of jumping the gun with Jericho winning the title from Undertaker because I don't think it's going to happen. An Edge/Jericho match will happen but it will be better suited for Elimination Chamber. I see Edge challenging for the WWE Title and having Orton win the title at EC to set up a face Edge/heel Orton match for the first time in almost six years. Edge and Jericho haven't proven to be the greatest of draws so I think a main event match with them would be good but not great. Undertaker will fight CM Punk and I see a Cena/Batista match at WM.

Pretty happy that Edge won the Rumble. I'd prefer to see Jericho vs Edge at Mania because of the history they have. I think with the right build up to it, it could be a WM classic. Jericho deserves a good quality opponent at WM after last years 3-1 legends match and Edge has had some quality matches over the years. Maybe Edge challenges Jericho at EC in a grudge match but Jericho declines and is in the Smackdown chamber match. I reckon HBK will challenge Batista at EC for the right to face Taker at Mania (hbk looking to end the streak, batista wanting the title shot)- with HBK winning and then later in the night Taker losing the belt in the chamber to Jericho, which sets up Jericho vs Edge and Taker vs HBK

But if that doesnt happen - This is prob along shot but nobody has mentioned the ECW title... Edge vs Christian one on one? Look at Edge's credentials - multi time Tag Champ, IC, US, World champ, WWE champ, King of the Ring, Rumble Winner, Money in the Bank winner...only title he hasnt held is the ECW strap. With the rumours of ECW being revamped, maybe they're looking for a big name to hold the title during the new set up? I know it prob wont happen since most dont see the ECW title as a world title but interesting enough.

My ideal Mania card:
Taker - HBK
Cena - Batista
Jericho - Edge
Sheamus - HHH
Bret - Vince - street fight
Orton - Dibiase - Rhodes
CM Punk - Rey in a Hair vs Mask match
MITB - Shelton - Kofi - Bourne - Morrison - Christian - MVP - Miz - Ziggler/Carlito

As the person above me said, the ECW title situation isn't too far fetched. With ECW going under (again), it's unlikely that they would "waste a title." Let me pitch this idea:

1. E & C team up on RAW or ECW, as a nice "reunion". At the end Edge gets pinned, costing them the match. Christian attacks Edge, and assuming that Edge will now be a full fledged Face, this would give Christian good heat.

2. Next week, Edge comes to whichever show he's now on, does "The Cutting Edge" with Christian as the guest. Christian might get a tweener response with not a ton of heat. Edge asks him why he did what he did. They talk, blah blah blah. At the end, Christian attacks him, setting up next week's confrontation.

3. This week, Edge comes out, says screw questions, he wants the only title he hasn't held, and he's gonna use his opprotunistic and winning ways to gain it. HE WANTS HIS TITLE!!!

4. He wins, but announces he's not going to ECW, that would set up the decline of ECW.

5. The ECW Title gets defended each week against ECW superstars (exposing them to less devout ECW watchers), whether on RAW or Smackdown! Every week he wins while getting over ECW superstars.

6. When ECW goes down, the ECW Title goes with it, and he claims he never lost setting up a No. #1 Contenders match. He wins, and wins the title, keeping him legit and in the Main-Event Picture.

*Takes deep breath*

And now for my next scenario:

JUST KIDDING!!!

I can't see Edge challenging for the ECW championship. That belt hasn't been a World Championship since Bobby Lashley last held it. I would much rather see Edge and Christian as partners than rivals. A feud would be fun down the line maybe after Christian leaves ECW he could join Edge on whatever brand he goes to and they can team up for a bit before Christian turns on him again lol.

Damn i was beaten to it with the ECW title shout! With ECW looking to get 'rebranded' im thinking edge might be the guy to pull the brand upwards. I like Pestilence's idea of defending it on the other brands (cant see them doing it but its a neet idea). or ... could he be the man to gain Sheamus more heat?

I believe that we will have and Edge vs Jericho for WHC. Why? Because the writers want it! And Edge has won the Rumble which makes me believe jericho wins the title at EC! THis is a match that I was waiting for for about 2 years or so! I believe it as the power to be one the best matches of the decade!

I hope finally it happens!

IVe missed Edge, I consider him bar none the most exciting guy in the WWE at this time. Wrestling officially became a bit of a bore for me when Edge left, for most of the fall, the only guy that really stepped up was Jericho with the Big Show during that time to entertain me as a fan. Edge is the guy who keeps the older crowd excited, and thrills the younger crowd, so having him in the Main Event (although I can see him in the first main even, rather than the second) will be great. He wont be against Taker, Batista, Cena, DX, so that really leaves us with thinking it is Jericho.

It was nice seeing Edge back after his injury, I wasnt really surprised he came back & won the Royal Rumble since I had a feeling he was coming back soon. I don't think Undertaker will still be World Heavyweight champ by Wrestlemania. I think Chris Jericho will somehow be the champ by Wrestlemania(even though I know he arrested for DUI recently) & Edge will choose to face Jericho instead of Sheamus (or whoever is the WWE champ at that time)for the title at wrestlemania, since it looks like the WWE is going in that direction.

You had a feeling?

Well, the big theory behind Edge coming back was to settle his score with Jericho. Now that he's won the Rumble, and with The Undertaker and Shawn Michaels clearly on a collision course, it's pretty obvious that something has to happen between now and Wrestlemania to satisfy these conclusions to these feuds. Jericho's most likely going to win the World Heavyweight Title in the Elimination Chamber with HBK interfering somehow.

Either way, I'm very excited Edge is coming back. Smackdown has needed him badly with Batista shitting up the brand, and with Edge as a face, it's the WWE breaking new ground with him. I don't think he's ever been a face as a main eventer, and with him doing a lot of good work as a face in the past before he started winning World Championships, I think he'll really connect with the crowd and become even more over than he was before.

It's funny, Edge has basically accomplished everything a WWE Wrestler ever could accomplish. Look at this resume:

5-time World Heavyweight Champion
4-time WWE Champion
5-time Intercontinental Champion
1-time US Champion
12-time World Tag Team Champion (7 with Christian, 2 with Benoit, 1 with Hogan, 1 with Orton, 1 with Jericho)
2-time WWE Tag Team Champion (1 with Mysterio and 1 with Jericho)
2001 King of the Ring
2005 Money in the Bank Winner
2010 Royal Rumble Winner

Look at HHH's resume:

World Heavyweight Championship (5 times)
WWF/E Championship (8 times)
WWF European Championship (2 times)
WWF/E Intercontinental Championship (5 times)
WWF/E World Tag Team Championship (2 time)
WWE Tag Team Championship (1 time)
King of the Ring (1997)
Royal Rumble (2002)

The only thing HHH can say is that he's held the Heavyweight title four more times. It's amazing, and it goes to show how important Edge truly is to the WWE. I really hope he sticks around a few more years. And I'm looking forward to his big match with Jericho at Wrestlemania.
