Now that the draft is over, who was the best 2009 draftee?

Pre-Show Stalwart
One of the reasons I love the draft is that it inevitably leads to breakout stars that no one expected. I have my hopes for who breaks out this year but I'm not sure as that's part of the fun.

As for the 2009 draft, I've been quite surprised that for the most part there weren't a lot of break out stars. Every one expected John Morrison to be champion or MVP to be a big star while both have stayed in the midcard, if not the lowcard for MVP.

Now my pick for best 2009 draftee is what I expect most others to be and that's The Miz. He went from what most people expected and he referenced, the Marty Jannety of he and Morrison, and has become one of the main features of the flagship show. He's awesome on the mic and I find him very entertaining in the ring. I hope he has a good 2010 although I doubt he'll win the title. Hopefully no that he's not a tag champion he'll have good midcard feuds.

Hopefully we can do this next year with whoever is the big breakout star. And for the record, I hope it's Christian.

I gotta agree with you as much as I can not stand the Miz, he's definately the breakout star of the 2009 draft, while he may not be World Champion yet, he's done a lot more than Jack Swagger, an in defense to Miz, Swagger took almost a year an a half before he actually got the chance to become a champion an I for one feel that if Hardy had stayed and RVD came back to the WWE Swagger wouldnt be champion an he'd still have been pushing midcard status and we'd have seen Christian with the MITB win.

I do agree that THE MIZ was one of the best draftees in 2009. But I have to say CM Punk was the best draftee. He had the fued of the year with Jeff Hardy IMO and he has come along way from a good face to an excellent heel. He became a won the world heavyweight twice last year. He created the SES and he made the Undertaker tap out:p.

The Miz didn't show us anything til the upcoming weeks to wrestlemania IMO. CM Punk though had a good fued with jeff hardy, and had a great tlc match at summerslam. But once again he went from main event to midcard, i consider him main eventer still, and with the most of the major stars on raw now i think he might get another world title opportunity.

as for this year. i was so glad to see kofi and christian go to smackdown. i think christian deserves to be in the world title picture (as with most of the IWC as it seems) and kofi, i honestly thought he had a chance of winning the rumble with his fued with orton and matches agianst main eventers qualifying for elimnation chamber etc. Then he jobbed a couple of matches and that got ruined, but we'll see what happens now that he's on smackdown.

raw got more main evneters r-truth and morrison. now morrison many thought would be the next shawn micheals after going to smackdown but instead he got put down again and got put in another tag team. and now that he's on wwe's biggest show with a bunch of huge names idk if that will help him either \:

This is my first time responding to any of these so thank you for reading it. The 2009 draft i would also say the Miz. It took him a little while but overall, you cant deny how much he has improved in both wrestling and on the mic. As for the 2010 draft, I would say Kofi has a good shot of doing great things on smackdown, but we will see. One thing I did notice watching the draft, and idk if anyone else did or not, when Edge was drafted to Raw, my first thought was an Edge/Christian reunion at some point, but that was quickly ended by Christian being drafted to smackdown. I guess the WWE wanted to put that idea to rest that it isnt gonna happen anytime soon.

CM PUNK and Miz were def the picks of the yr. Just a quick question tho whats the fascination with John Morrison. His face character is brutal. My 90 yr old grandma could kick out of star ship pain. It might be the 2nd worst finisher in wwe behind knock out punch. Please tell me why you would like to see him as a a ME?

Way agreed, John Morrison's face character is terrible , he's a natural heel. His moveset is very soft looking. Your 90 yr old grandma can kick out of the starship pain. My 10 year old nephew can kick out of it to. But the best draft pick from 2009 was cm punk. Punk is a 3 time champ, great on the mic, can adapt to any wrestlers style and if used properly consistently, this guy could go far for along time.

Definately CM Punk, he went from so-so midcard face to awesome heel main eventer and two time world champion in a year and that wins it in my book.

Although CM Punk is my fave wrestler at the momment i have to say The miz. His ring ablity and mic work has improved, got a new look, and now that orton seem to be a tweener, i think the miz is gona be the next top heel on raw

The best draftee will have to be Edge to Raw. The three drafts to Raw that all happened at once was Raw's best draft of the night. John Morrison is young, energetic, and I think he could do a lot for Raw. However, I was kinda pissed because when he defeated Jack Swagger last week on Smackdown that would have put him in the hunt to the WHC. I also think Christian to Smackdown was a good change, and I liked that it happened when Swagger just won the match to get a draft. Remember when Christian took the ECW title from Swagger, I would love to see something like that again, hopefully McMahon decides to use Christian as a main eventer soon.

I go with CM Punk and the miz a tie because no one has the bravado that these to have and the starship pain is AWESOME

Dude, Morrison does the starship pain not Miz!!

Yeah i totally agree with the posts above it has to be CM Punk for the win on this one. He's held the world championship, become one of the greatest heels who, along with the miz, has some of the greatest promos since the rock. Finally he has started a DECENT stable with a great gimmick behind it!

LONG LIVE SES!!

Something everyone seems to have forgotten about Miz was that he had a feud with Cena when he first came to Raw. He lost of course, but he got to work a program with WWE's top guy. After that he became US Champ and then a Tag Champ. So all of his momntum didn't just come towards the end of the year.

As far as the best draft pick of 2009, I'd say its between Miz, CM Punk, Chris Jericho and honorable mention to Big Show.

The case for Miz is this: #1 He worked a program with WWEs top guy John Cena.
#2 He is the current US Champion and has held onto this title for over 6 months!
#3 He was a Tag Team Champion with Big Show for 69 days beating DX
#4 He was a duel champion, having both the unified tag team championship and US championship at the same time.
#5 He won his match at Wrestlemania
#6 He is doing all of this as part of the Raw Brand, which is almost impossible for a mid-carder to do.

CM Punks Case
#1 CM Punk's 2nd WHC (1st of 2009) lasted 49 days.
#2 His 3rd WHC (2nd in 2009) lasted 42 days.
#3 He has become one of the top heels in all of the company

Chris Jerichos Case
#1 Chris Jericho MADE the Tag Titles ACTUALLY worth something again with Big Show
#2 They Were Champs for 140 days
#3 Jericho won the WHC in an Elimenation Chamber match
#4 He won his match at Wrestlemania

Its hard to say who really had the better year. I Think Miz might have acheived more stuff, but is not yet a main eventer but is definitallty the most improved of 2009. CM Punk won the most World Titles of the three in 2009 which is reallt what its all about and cemented himself as a true main eventer in the E. Jericho was the most solid and consistant as always and did something no had else had been able to with the tag team belts. I give the edge (pun intended) to Jericho for the best draftee in 2009 with Miz as a close second and CM punk in third. (Jericho and Miz were champions for much longer in 2009 then Punk was)

Honorable Mention Big Show
Big Show didn't do quite as much as the other but he deserves Credit for forming the two tag Teams with Jericho and Miz.

I think it would have to be The Miz. While it's true Punk did become champion twice and become one of the biggest heels in the company, The Miz had to build up credibility from nothing. he was long thought to be the weaker of the Morrison/Miz duo and he proved us wrong this past year with hard work and dedication to being top of the midcard on Raw. He's done a fantastic job improving everything. he's a great all round performer and while he still has things to learn, he's had a great (or Awesome) 2009/Early 2010.

After the draft in 2009 you saw the rise of three stars.. Jericho, Punk, and Miz.. Jericho was already a star and everything but was getting kind of buried on raw.. Once he went to sd he was able to shine and become even better as a top heel and his stuff with edge and big show were all classic..

Punk was drafted to raw in 08 and we saw him rise as a face but at the same time getting pushed down.. It sucked cause we all wanted to see him where he belongs.. Once he headed over to sd in 09 that guy rose straight to the top.. Great matches with hardy and now a great fued with mysterio and formed his own group that looks like its still building.. He's deff a great draft of 09...
But for the best draft in 09 I have to go with the miz.. He was first in wwe as someone that no one liked or appreciated.. Then he was in ecw and formed a tag team with morrison and it was a great tag team.. But once they broke up everyone and their dogs all thought morrison was the shining star and miz was gonna get released very soon.. How quick did miz prove that wrong when he entered raw.. He started a "fake" fued with cena lol.. He picked up more catch phrases got even better on the mic.. Had a decent mini fued with kingston.. Anyone remember the canadian gimick he had to return? That was awesome.. He's won the us title and showed that the title meant something... He got the tag titles with big show and went far with it.. To me it has nothing to do with the titles but had to do with improvement..

Yeah punk improved but he was already something.. Miz was at the bottom of the food chain.. Now he's pretty close to the top.. Miz best in 09 and I will say right now that Kingston and R Truth will be the biggest surprise uprise from the 10 draft

The Miz and CM Punk... no competion really! Miz is now United States champion (his first singles title), and CM Punk 2 time 'Straight Edge' Champion, and has his own Cult!.
Now that the 2010 is over, I really thought that when Edge (who was the shocker in my opinion) got drafted to RAW, maybe E & C could of came back...but kids don't remember the good days so they drafted Christian to SD! instead. Christian could get the chance that he deserves since returning at the ME, and with Edge and Y2J gone, there's less chance of a big name getting in his way (unless Kofi or CM Punk get another big push)

And the guys who said that Morrison's Face gimmick isn't working, Totally agree, he just has the look of a heel, Cocky persona, Douchey attire from ECW. it wouldn't suprise me if he had another heel turn (betray R-Truth??). And his starship pain...yeah it's nice to watch, but as a finisher?? doesn't do it for me, it's almost as bad as the Attitude Ajustment to call it a finisher!!

While I do partially agree with all the people saying CM Punk and The Miz, because sure they've accomplished quite some things, and become very firm placed upper mid-carders if you ask me, over the last years time, and I have to admit I enjoyed watching every second of their promos, but I have to give this one to someone else.

Chris Jericho.
First off, one Intercontinental championship, the longest unified tag team championship reign ever, and a world champion, a main event at Wrestlemania, if you don't want to call that accomplishing something? then I'd love to see what accomplishing something is.
Chris Jericho had an amazing feud with Rey Mysterio, Edge (thus far, could possibly continue) and an amazing tag team with The Big Show, making Big Show relevant again.
Chris has put on some amazing promos on Smackdown, again with Rey Mysterio, and while he was on Smackdown, he also accomplished putting on some great promos on RAW, and some great matches on both shows, putting over talent, as well as keeping himself looking like a firm contender.

I think Chris Jericho by a long shot is the draftee of 2009.
