Dear #AftermathBlog readers,

Like me, many of you reading this blog have been a fan of WWE and pro wrestling for many years, and even more of you respect and honour it’s rich history. We are so fortunate to celebrate so many great legends, who paved the way for today’s superstars.

As fans, nothing brings us more joy than to see these legends get the recognition they deserve – this is one major reason why the WWE Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony is one of the most anticipated nights of the year for so many.

On top of that, we feel an equal sense of pride when our heroes are acknowledged and celebrated outside the confines of the business we love – for example, when Vince McMahon received his own star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

In Canada, where #AftermathBlog calls home, we have a variation of this, called Canada’s Walk of Fame – one of the highest acknowledgements a Canadian can receive. From the website:

Canada’s Walk of Fame is a non-profit, volunteer driven organization. We have chosen as our mission to engage Canadians in celebrating those who have excelled in music, sport, film, television, as well as the literary, visual, performing arts, science and innovation.

We are in the business of celebrating Canadian excellence and inspiring the next generation of emerging Canadian talent.

Current inductees include Pamela Anderson, Michael J. Fox, James Cameron, George Chuvalo, John Candy, Jim Carrey, Nickelback, Christopher Plummer, Neil Young, William Shatner, and several great NHL hockey players and athletes. There are over 130 inductees.

When wrestling fans read that paragraph above, they can immediately name many Canadian pro wrestlers who fit the bill – Stu Hart, “Whipper” Billy Watson, Trish Stratus and Adam “Edge” Copeland to name a few. There are many others that apply.

There is one challenge – as of right now, in it’s 14 year history, Canada’s Walk of Fame has yet to honour a professional wrestler. There have been many efforts and attempts, and unfortunately each year the cards just did not fall in place. This year, we would like to attempt to change that.

If there is one WWE legend we feel would be the perfect choice to break the ice, to be the first on the Walk of Fame to set the precedent and open the door for others to follow, who exemplifies success and pride in Canadian culture and heritage, its Bret “Hitman” Hart. On top of a Hall of Fame career and his fame not only in Canada (where he is revered as a hero) but across the world,he has had a deep cultural impact – in Canada, he was the founding member and responsible for bringing an important junior hockey franchise to Calgary, aptly named the “Calgary Hitmen”.

Perhaps most important of all, Bret works extensively with charities, particularly the March of Dimes, an organization he became very close with after he himself had a stroke and endured years-long recovery (here you can read more about what Bret has done for March of Dimes). March of Dimes has agreed to help with the effort to get Bret recognized on Canada’s Walk of Fame.

Voting for Canada’s Walk of Fame takes place exclusively at this link. You are allowed to nominate someone once per day on that link. The way it works is that the more votes one individual receives, the more they will be considered.Voting closes April 30.

If you are not Canadian, you can also vote – we appreciate you doing so because maybe Canada’s Walk of Fame isn’t such a big deal to you personally, but it would mean a great deal to not only Bret but to the industry we love – every single vote counts.

The pro wrestling community is a tight knit one – Thank you so much for banding together and making an effort to get our industry and one of our industry’s brightest stars recognized!

So yeah, they've never acknowleged a professional wrestler in the 14 years that they've been going, can we all change it?

Click the above link, put in a vote for Bret, why not? If you're stuck on the reason for why you're nominating him, just use this;

Bret “Hitman” Hart is one of the most famous and successful WWE superstars of all time, and certainly the most proudly Canadian. His celebrity reaches all corners of the world and is widely considered one of the best wrestlers to every step foot in the ring. Bret is a founding member and the inspiration behind the Calgary Hitmen WHL hockey franchise. Perhaps his greatest career work is his charitable contributions – after having a stroke and enduring a years-long recovery, Bret is now a spokesperson for the March of Dimes, constantly giving back to the organization and the community.

Who wants to see Bret on the Walk?
