NFL Free Agency

Part Time Poster
Starts at midnight, who is gonna be here to chit chat? I'll be here most of the night if anyone wants to chat NFL stuff. I just heard that Dunta Robinson, formerly of the Texans could be heading to Atlanta and Julius Peppers seems to be heading to Chicago or Seattle. Antonio Cromartie traded to the Jets (waste, the kid is soooo overrated) and the biggest news of them all is Jake Delhomme is expected to be released by the Panthers.

So my fellow 'rasslin fans who is gonna be all NFL and follow along or will I just be all by my lonesome here?

Cromartie may be over-rated, but he's a hell of a lot better than fucking Lito Shepherd. The Jets needed an upgrade at corner, and their hands were tied because of the final eight rule. Now, they're free to go BAP in the draft.

I'd prefer Cromartie to signing Dunta Robinson to a gigantic Jesus contract. Not that the Jets had a choice anyway.

Peppers will be a Redskin. Looks like the Bears are going to try to sign everyone and fail.

I can see Pep going to the Skins and yes Cromartie is an upgrade, I've just never been particularly fond of him.

Pep's going to Chi-town tomorrow, so the Bears are the front runner for him. Personally, I want Dansby. BADLY.

I just think Peppers won't be worth the pay check. Not a bust, but not worth the money he wants. Kinda like big Al. Good, but not worth the money (as of now, at least).

Dansby would be a great pickup for the Skins. The guy can play all 3 LB spots and is one of the most underrated players in football. He deserves himself a hefty deal. I think he ends up in Miami though, he is visiting there tomorrow.

I take it back; from all reports the Big 3 (Dansby, Rolle, and Peppers) are going to places AWAY from the Skins.

This tells me possibly 2 things; they think were THAT bad they don't want to join us or we did not make a move for any, as there is no way any of the teams they're going to can out bid us.

I think Rolle is still gonna end up back in Zona. I heard that Chicago (who the hell aren't they interested in lol), Giants, Cardinals, and Dolphins are interested.

This is just unexpected; apparently the Skins aren't spending in the Free Agency? I don't get it. Both Snyder and Shanahan are known for spending...but no visits schedule and the big names aren't anywhere near us.

Maybe a possible trade is in the works for someone like Brandon Marshall.

Pepper's is "officially" a Bear. Lovie Smith just touched down in Charlotte to escort him back to Chi-town. The red carpet has been laid out.

No, Shanahan was about to cut Marshall just before he was fired, as well our WR corps has quite an upside right now. Their big, their young, and their talented. I'm not sayin' that 1 will ever be better then Marshall, but together I feel they have the better upside together as is.

there should be a free agency LD.....

Antonio Cromartie traded to the Jets (waste, the kid is soooo overrated).
Antonio Cromartie >>>>Dwight Lowery (the Jets 2nd corner). not even close. Lowery is overrated as a 3rd corner, and is the 2nd now because of Lito (another overrated corner) being cut, because of a $10 million roster bonus. Reportedly the deal is for 2011 draft pick(s), but that isn't confirmed, and it probably isn't a 1, because Mike Tannenbaum most likely wouldn't trade a 1. Rex Ryan is also a phenomenal defensive coach who can get the best out of players.

in other Jet news. Thomas Jones got cut, but there the Jets reportedly still want him. If he won't stay, I could see the Jets going after one of the big name FA HBs (LT or Brian Westbook) to be a 3rd guy behind Shonn Greene and Leon Washington). Since these guys were cut, the Jets can sign them. Plus there is a chance that Leon Washington gets signed by another team, which means the Jets will get that teams 2nd round pick, and put a strong emphasis on getting another HB.

With the possibility of losing Chester Taylor I think the Vikes will sign Bwest (more likely as Childress is the head coach) or LT.

I believe the pick for Cro was a 2011 3rd that could turn into a 2nd. I just can't stand Cro. He got praise and everyone claimed him to be a top 10 CB, I honestly wouldn't rank him in my top 25.

Jake Delhome is gonna be released according to ESPN. This is gonna make the Draft a HELL of a lot more interesting then it already is.

I can't see Carolina drafting a QB or Delhomme getting a starting job. Carolina should (and I think they will) stick with Matt Moore, the kid deserves the job. If they go elsewhere I think it will be Vick.

Eagles have picked up Vick's option for next season and I don't see them trading him either.

Matt Moore will be the QB, which is their best bet, since the kid looked pretty good last season (and in the limited time he had before that).

I won't say that Cromartie is amazing, but you gotta remember he is a #2 corner, and in a system where he will NEVER be playing against a #1 receiver (unless you consider Wes Welker a #1b). Since he is a #2, I think it is a good move, and I don't know what makes the draft pick a 2 instead of a 3, but it is probably performance based, and if he plays good enough to escalate the pick, then that's a good thing.

Now the Jets only have 2 needs, and can address them in the draft. They need a Wide Receiver who can make big plays and a pass rusher. Of course Boldin is there to be had, and so is Brandon Marshall. I heard a rumor of Kerry Rhodes for Anquan Boldin, which I would do in .000063 seconds.

I think the Eagles will trade one of their three QBs. Rumor has it that the Rams might trade their 2nd round pick for McNabb, but I just don't see that happening. I have also heard that Cleveland and Jacksonville have shown interest in Kolb. And Vick said he'd love to play in Carolina. One of them will be on the move and I think Vick or McNabb are the most likely.

Cro was a number 2 is SD, so that really doesn't make a difference. However I didn't see many Bolt games this year so I can't confirm if he covered the number one WR at all during the year. I'm sure he did, but Jammer was the number one guy in SD. But obviously having Revis across from you could help. However it could easily damage them, as Cro could see more passes come his way. But like you said it is an upgrade over Lowery/Lito.

I would bet money on Cromartie not being locked on the #2, because the Jets were one of (if not the) only team to lock their #1 CB on the #1 receiver.
I also think it's a good thing because the Jets don't need to address this need in the Draft, and they are free to spend their 1st round pick on something else, getting a corner in the middle rounds. As a Notre Dame fan, I was holding out for Golden Tate, but I think his stock went up at the combine, so he won't be around at 29. So the Jets can get a pass rusher at 29, and try and get another receiver via trade, or stick with Braylon and hope he doesn't do this:

I still worry about the possibility of losing Leon Washington, which is supposedly 50/50 that a team offers him a contract. If that's the case, then the Jets would have to hope and pray that they can get LT, or draft a guy in round 2 (with the pick they would get for Leon), since there are no other runners available to them in the free agency.

I think Neon Leon will be staying put in NY. I can't see a team giving up a 2nd rounder for him. But hey who would have thought the Pats would have given a 2nd for a little named slot WR in Wes Welker.

Edwards really needs to fix his case of the dropsies. Maybe a visit to the Nike eye clinic or something is needed.

I know it isn't a 100% reliable source, but his agent tweeted that it's 50/50 someone signs him. The Jets said eh will be ready for week 1, and his agent says he will be ready for Training Camp, so I would be worried. Although I think it would possibly be better to lose Leon and get a 2nd round pick to get an RB/kick returner (if the kid from Ole Miss is still there, I would jump on him as a replacement).

The best way to fix Braylons dropsies would be to throw at him more. More chances = more catches = lower droprate. That, or chop off his hands and replace them with someone who doesn't drop passes, like Wayne Chrebet.

new news, according to ESPN (Chris Mortensen):

Apparently, Chad Pennington was close to re-signing with the Dolphins, but talks hit a snag because he wants a No-Trade Clause, and the Fins won't give it to him. The Fins have Chad Henne, Pat White, and Tyler Thigpen, so Chad could very well be traded, which is why he wants the No-Trade, which would let him choose what team he goes to).

As a die-hard Chad Pennington fan, this is good news, because I think he can still be a starting QB in the NFL (much like he was when he went to Miami before 2008. I could see Buffalo (or another team who doesn't have a QB, like Oakland if they give up on Jasuckus Russell) giving him a shot at the starting job, and drafting a QB to learn under him (a good person to learn under).

I just made an NFL offseason thread in the sports section, so go post in there instead of wasting some good posts in the barroom.
