http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.co...s-warned-patriots-not-to-push-on-field-goals/This isn't equivalent to that in my opinion. This is equivalent to a guy completely away from the ball, squatting his defender's hand. It's a foul, but does the ref call that when the game is on the line? Of course he doesn't since it didn't directly affect the play.
Also, the Pats did this last week against the Saints and it wasn't called, among many other things that weren't called. I still think it's just strange for it to be called at that certain moment when it hasn't been called all season long despite it having to have happened multiple times before yesterday.
And there are rules that don't ever get called. I saw on Mike and Mike this morning that it's illegal to push your teammate while he's stuck in a pile-up and trying to get extra yards, yet it happens all the time and it NEVER gets called. I didn't even know that was a rule before this morning, and that affects a play way more than what was called on the Pats yesterday (I've seen plenty of first downs and even touchdowns made with a lineman pushing a running back). I never recall seeing a blocked field goal because someone was pushed from behind.
You would think a throw to Calvin would be in their ideas on a 2 minute drive.
You would think.
