New Metallica Album Discussion

Getting Noticed By Management
Okay, so as most people are aware, Metallica are releasing a new album (titled Death Magnetic), slated for a September release. In order to keep anticipation as high as possible, Metallica opened up a new website last month, Mission: Metallica. Basically, video snippets are uploaded once a day (unless you buy a Platinum membership, where more are uploaded) showing the band practice, discuss and record the new album. So because of this, we've heard some new riffs and some vocals from James throughout several of the videos.

http://www.missionmetallica.com/

I believe you will have to join (it's free unless you want to pay in order for more stuff) to view the videos.

With that said, use this thread to discuss your thoughts on the new album from the videos uploaded and the ones to come.

From what I've heard on Mission: Metallica, it sounds a lot better than all the Load Era CDs, and St. Anger. While it sounds a little like the older Metallica, it also sounds fresh and new. I honestly can't wait for this album to come out. I've been waiting for so long for them to come out with some new stuff, and it sounds good. I predict that this CD is going to shut up all the haters once and for all, and hopefully it will lead to a North American Tour. I can't wait to hear it.

I like what I've heard so far on M:M. There's some really cool riffs which have that trademark Hetfield chunk to them, especially the newest one. The only solo which has been released so far has been a trademark Kirk wah-wah shitfest. He really needs to drop the usage of his wah and write something memorable or somewhat interesting. Hetfield's vocals and vocal delivery sound great too, as do the lyrics.

But for me personally, they're going to have a hard time topping Load, since that's my favourite Metallica album aside from Ride the Lightning. But I'm not really bothered about them topping anything, just hope that they write another fantastic Metal album.

I'm not sure if a site like that is a good idea. There's nothing like hearing an album for the first time, and having heard riffs and demos before lessens the impact you have while hearing the album for the first time. Having said this, im sure this new Metallica album will kick ass.

I'm fucking pumped for the new Metallica album, as I am a huge fan and own all their cd's already. I've heard them say it's going to be totally different from what they've done before while still staying on the same track. I'll be getting this the day it comes out as I did with St.Anger, which gets too much shit nowadays as their worst album. Sure it is their worst but its still not bad at all. I quite enjoyed it.

Whether this new album is good or bad I will love it either way and will be definitley adding it o my evergrowing C.D. collection.

I cant wait for the new Album. I look at ALL of metallica's albums with Respect, Even the supposed ''Bad'' albums from Load on. I think that those albums were good, in different ways. They were NOT Master of Puppets, but I mean, And justice for All was not Puppets either. BUT that was my favorite Metallica album, so NONE will be better than And justice. I adore ALL things metallica, And I feels its about time for some REAL musicians to come back and show the HORRID music scene how to do it. 2008=Metallica

In addition to this, Metallica played a new song titled "Cyanide" recently.

Pretty cool. I love the chorus, the solo is a little boring but I love the Iron Maiden-esque twin guitar melody just after it. Reading several reviews stating this is the weakest song on the album makes me even more excited.

Here's a five minute 'making of' (if you can call it that) of the new video "The Day That Never Comes", the first single off the new album. We get a few tiny previews of the song, but it seems like it's gonna be killer.

Heard the new song the other day and read the KERRANG! report about the album and all in all it looks as though Metallica are "back" even though they never really left. I have a whole blog about this very subject at my myspace. Hit it up if you'd like at www.myspace.com/cfour the blog is called "A Fan Magnetic".

I personally have anticipated several albums this past year only to find myself dissapointed when i finally heard them. I made sure not to listen to ANY of the songs tht Metallica have posted online, and can't remember any of the ones they've played live a few months ago. After liking St. Anger (to a degree) after hearing it a million times, i was hesitiant to spend money on 'Death Magnetic'...... that being said, i used good ol' Bitlord on Wednesday and downloaded all of DM, and it's fucking awesome. Best album i've heard this year bar none. This will come off as typical Metallica fan thinkin they can do no wrong. Trust me, they can, and trust me again, they haven't this time around. Imagine '...And Justice For All' with far superior production, and you have Death Magnetic.

It's so good i will definately be buying it on the 12th

Best track imo:- All Nightmare Long

"Hunt you down without mercy,
Hunt you down all nightmare long,
Feel our breath on your face,
Feeling every move we trace,

Hunt you down without mercy,
Hunt you down all nightmare long
Luck.... Runs.... Out....
You crawl back in, but your luck runs out-ah!"

(That's pretty close to the chorus)

I checked out that "Day That Never Comes" song. Pretty cool, although I prefer straight-rock-Metallica to melodic Metallica...strange, because it's pretty much always the opposite with other bands. I might check out the album, but I've never really sat down and listened to a Metallica album as much as I check out various songs from them. Perhaps I'll do it this time. Definitely need some new music in my life anyways.

Like Hardcore Kennedy, I've never sat down and listened to a full Metallica album...

...but I just might with Death Magnetic. All Nightmare Long is a great tune, and one thing I've noticed is that Hetfield's singing has changed compared to older songs, I don't know if that's something new, or something that happened with St. Anger, but I like it. I'm gonna download Day That Never Comes right now, and give it a listen.

If ANL is any example of what the whole album will be like, then consider me on the bandwagon.

Metallica has the entire album up on their site right now, so you can liosten to it in it's entierty RIGHT NOW!!!!!

I gotta say form everything I've heard so far this is the best Metallica album I have heard in a very long time, I'd Have to say it's right up there with ...And Justice For All, possibly even better, I would dare to say it's easily better than the Black album, or anything that they released post black album, it really sounds like they listen to all the fans complaints and put out a hard in your face heavy as fuck album, if people still are complaining about them after this album then it's time for them to move on, cause they will never get what they want, every song fucking owns on this album, and I can't wait till tomorrow morning, bright and early at 10:00 am, I will be waiting outside Best Buy, money in hand ready to finally buy this shit, then Saturday morining, I'll be up again bright and early at 9:00 am at the Ticketbastards outlet with my friend getting all 4 of our tickets for the big show Nov. 6th, CAN NOT FUCKING WAIT!!!!

I bought the Album today Very very good. I popped it in and started listeing and didn't stop. "Suicide & Redemption" is a welcome instrumental to Metallica's post-...And Justice For All catalogue of songs. I like the entire thing, "the Day That Never Comes" is a radio friendly metal track that can get people onto the True Path once more. "All Nightmare Long" is the Best Song in a long time. I didn't mind St. Anger, but thank God for the Solos that knock you back into your seat and tell you to "shut the fuck up and listen!". Hearing the Bass at the start of "Suicide & Redemption" makes the chest pump. The Heartbeat at the start of "That Was Just Your Life", fuck I felt my own Heartbeat in my throat. This is a return to form that should of happened after The Black Album in a alternate universe where Bob Rock was let go after that. The Change in vocal key that James has done makes it vocally different but this difference defines it as a fucking Awesome Metal Album. It is not Rock this is Heavy Fuckin' Metal \m/\m/

So, after listening to the album on the net (Thankyou Justin) I decided to go out and buy it. And I'm glad I did. It was some of their best music in my opinion. There a couple of songs I aren't keen on, but overall, it's way better than I expected, with a coupld of bad reviews I've heard.

It seems slightly more 'metal' than recent, and I think that's where the bad reviews are from. Some have gotten used to a softer (if you can ever use that word for Metallica, that is) style, and this has come as a shock.

I think this will please many of the fans who have complained constantly about them changing their style.

Death Magnetic Rocks!!!!!!!! Every song from the album is pretty good and it's a good change of pace from St. Anger. My personal favorite song from the album is "The Day that Never comes" It has a nice steady beat and great vocals from James Hetfield. The only problem i had with the album is that it didnt have enough songs. But i can deal with that.

Wow, I just can't believe all of the ridiculious hyperbole being heaped on this album. People are comparing this to their 80s greatness? Is that a joke? How is this album any different from anything the band did in the 90s? Once again people get sucked up by the hype. You play me the song "The Day That Never Comes" and tell me how that is in any way different from their 90s work?

The album is okay. It's certainly better then St. Anger, but that's not saying much. But it doesn't even grace any of their albums from the 80s, and it's sad that everyone has to overreact to every new Metallica album like they do.

I just listened to the album through the link Justin gave. I'm going to go buy the album now. I loved all the songs, and this album reminds me of the Metallica of old. Thank god they went back to their roots instead of doing something like St. Anger again. I didn't expect it to be very good, but it was way better than my expectations. I haven't been able to listen to a whole Metallica album before, but this one I listened to the whole way through and listened to it all again. This IMO is some of their best work, but you can't top great songs like One.

I would expect nothing less then blind ignorant hate

This is the exact same shit you said before the album came out, every single person I've talked to loves the album more than anything they've done since before the Black album, you clearly are just trying to stir shit (as usual), either you A.) haven't even taken the time to listen to it, B.) just don't want to admit you were wrong with your prediction of the album before it came out, and that they are still capable of making good shit, which they have proven with this album, or C) Both

I mean have you listen to any other songs than "The Day That Never Comes"?, cause I find it interesting thast you only bring up the song they released as a single, and don't mention any other songs from the album, they use a slimier formula for the songs on this album that they used on the albums of the 80's!!!!!, if this album can't shut haters like you up nothing they do ever will
