NBA Outlaws...... Chewing Straws?

Caron Butler, a SG/SF for the Mavericks, since he was a teenager has chewed on straws during games to help calm him down. Now, in his 8th year in the league he has been told by NBA Executive Vice President Stu Jackson that he can't do it anymore. He has been told it is a safety issue.

How the fuck is chewing on a straw a safety issue? Not only that but he has been doing it for 8 years and they haven't noticed until just now. The NBA has some pointless rules but this one takes the cake.

So what are your thoughts on the situation? Agree, disagree, don't give a fuck?

I think its complete bull shit. Maybe if he just started doing they could put a stop to it, I don’t see the point of stopping it but I wouldn’t have a problem with it. But Butler has been doing it for 8 fucking years! It is kind of funny though since Stern admittedly doesn’t like Cuban and just 8 days after being traded to the Mavericks now he is told to stop doing it? The NBA needs a new commissioner if the current one isn’t going to be biased across the board.

If he didn't chew straws during game, what exactly is the big deal?

If he were doing this during games, then I could understand, because that would be a clear issue of safety and health. Especially if one of those things had gotten caught and lodged in his throat. In that case, it'd be a big deal, but since he's doing this on the bench, why even bother with it?

What's next? Telling Mike Bibby he can't clip his nails during games? I remember him doing this when he was with the Sacramento Kings, does he still do this?

Too true. David Stern is a biased, con artist. IMO, he is the equivalent of a used car salesman. Trying to sell you on something that just doesn't work as well as it really should.
