MVP/Matt Hardy "contests". Time to put up or shut up?

Wall_of_Jericho

Break Me Down.
Ok, having watched No Mercy last night and having to endure ANOTHER Matt Hardy/MVP contest/sketch to kill time on the PPV (and to make MVP look like a moron) it made me wonder, how much longer is this going to go on for? I feel sorry for the crowd, live in attendance last night because they seemed totally dead during that whole segment. Doesn't WWE feel that the smarter move would be to have these two in an actual wrestling match? Especially when it's on a Pay Per View. We pay (in hope) to get "decent" wrestling matches and NOT freakin' pizza eating contests which climax with Matt Hardy vomiting on Montel. Montel is amusing but come on, like he says, he IS the premiere athlete on Smackdown. Lets not showcase him to look like a total clown. Add to that they've done so much now, contest wise . What's next? An essay writing contest? A ballet contest? It's getting very tiresome.

I don't even mind the storyline where they are Tag Champs who hate each other. I would much have preferred to see them defend the Tag Titles last night if they were not going to go at it for the US Title. The two of them put on one of the best matches at the Great American Bash when they last faced for the US Title. Why not have it again? Either way they are two of the better athletes on Smackdown. They are not getting booked meanwhile we get things from Smackdown like Finlay not putting over Mysterio cleanly. I just think WWE really really need to start utilising their best talents with TNA starting to make moves. PPVs are supposed to be a chance to showcase good talent and matches.

Opinions? It's had enough build up now. Is it time Matt and MVP went at it for the United States title?

I for one would like to see them go at it for the US title and I think Hardy should take it. I don't feel MVP needs the title as I think he is Smackdowns replacement for Kennedy. MVP is a babystep away from being a smackdown maineventer and doesn't need th US title anymore. Giving the title to Hardy builds him towards being a main eventer in 2008 (another program with edge would be good viewing)

Keep the fued between the two going by all means but make it about them being a fueding team and non of this pizza eating nonsense

these competitons are gettin more ridiculous as they go on

the writers are trying to prolong their feud because of the shortage of mid-carders matt nd mvp can feed on before they can make their eventual rise to the main gold
also they feel matts the only mid carder that mvp can get some heel heat off without having to job to like kane to further propel him to main event status

i think mvp needs to defend his us title but perhaps do it against either deuce or domino or both seperatly so matt is torn between trying to screw up mvp or keeping the tag team gold contenders away from his partner that way putting further strain on their teamwork and leading to their eventual split

they work well together and mvps humour nd mic skills make up for matts shortages and matts huge popularity can help mvp get over

but these contests hav to stop immediately

I honestly don't have a problem with these contests It's all apart of the story line, and until creative thinks Matt Hardy is ready to take the title away from mvp these challenges are still going to happen. MVP is getting showcased to look like a clown probably because next time they have there match MVP will win again, so it can further there story line " I beat you in all the challenges" then MVP's arrogance will be like yeah but i beat you when the title is on the line. MVP does need to defend his title but it is only going to happen when they believe the right time is, and apparently it isnt now.

The only logical reason i can this still going on is because the lack of MID-Card talent on SD. IMO Matt Hardy is not ready to be one step away from the main event because his charisma just isnt very very good, so i believe all these challenges are only going to help Matt later down the line because when this feud is at its highest elevation you will see a title change imo and you will see basically a beginning of a new Era for both MVP and Matt Hardy. But until Matt proves he can be a Main Eventer and Matt can be the U.S champ this tag team feud and 1-1 contest are just going to happen.

MVP is carring Matt Hardy threw this fued, MVP is good on the mic which is why he does all the talking threw out this fued, but it is a very entertaining fued the eating contest was a little stupid but I liked seeing Melina and Maria LOL

will be interesting to see how this fueds and what the WWE does with MVP after this, hope they push him even more but he is the most entertaining guy on Smackdown I think, he reminds me of a young Mr Perfect a little

One of the two of them may be injured. That's why they're doing that. They also want to keep the feud going without having to put on 5 star matches every day. They're probably building to a title change, but it would have meant nothing on that PPV with the HHH/Orton stuff goin on.

Besides, all of the little kids in the audience loved it. And their parents are the ones buying tickets...capitalism, ain't it great?

I really didn't enjoy their segment at No Mercy. First off, their dialog during that segment didn't come off as a legitimate, powerful promo, it came off more like a couple of 5-year-olds bickering. Not to mention that I was completely grossed out by the vomit part at the end.

I don't know why they're holding off a US title match for THIS long. When's the last time MVP defended the title at all? Oh yeah, The Great American Bash (I think).

But if you ask me, these competitions are completely irrellevent to anything that involves wrestling, but then again it's not like we haven't seen that before (WWE Idol, anyone?).

But yeah, they do put on good matches. Here's hoping they face each other again soon.

I'm getting a little tired of it. I'd like to see Hardy take the US title off MVP, but them remain tag team champs, cause they do work well together. That could continue the storyline without getting worse and worse with these challenges. Then we can push MVP to main event status, maybe over to Raw (but that would require some switch-ups in the rosters...you know how I all feel about the tri-brand set up by now lol)

these contest segments are starting to get a bit tedious but it could be worse. im sure the eventual match will take place sometime soon. these 2 guys work well together. each one makes up for what the other lacks. i say its time they put the title on the line in the ultimate endurance contest - the iron man match.

I quite like these segments, if theres an intense show then they are perfect for providing comic- relief.. the press up competition was similar to the hhh versus scott steiner build up to there match at the royal rumble a few years ago..

What would you like to see them compete in? if theres gnna be more competitions i mean?

we all know how this will end, cyber sunday mvp will face matt hardy in a match which the fans will choose and it'll be for the us title, hardy will win the title, then survivor series, rematch between the two, hardy retains and then moves onto a new feud, while i reckon mvp moves onto a new feud with rey mysterio

The segments are ok, and I like the overall one-upmanship angle, but I think I'd like to see MVP and Hardy trade the US title a couple of times while still holding (and actively defending!!!) the tag belts. That would give the segments a little more dimension and make the rivalry more intense, IMO.

(Edit - But the pizza eating contest was f**king gross. No more eating contests)

They are just stalling so they can hype up their match(whenever it will be.) If they are going to drag this rivalry they should focus on then defending there Tag Team Titles. Their acting is decent but Matt hardy is no brad pitt and MVP is no Denzel Washington(just trying to say their acting can be quit bad at times).

Pros and Cons of there rivalry

Pros
Enemies wining tag team titles
Summerslam Bear Bash
MVP vs Kane Rematch

Cons
annoying matches(like push up contest, pizza eating contest)
They make MVP look like a total idiot after giving him a tremendous push in his first year

but part of the reason is also MVP has a minor injury

fact or speculation

I'd love to see these two in a match styled like the Iron Man match, however, I don't think these two particular guys are talented enough to carry an hour long spectacle like that. Michaels/Hart was amazing because those guys were built up and justly the two best performers at that time (though I'd argue that HBK is one of the top performers NOW as well, despite his age lol).

It fits in the angle to have a match where its based on who can get the most wins per a certain time frame, but an hour is too long. If the average match length is somewhere around the ballpark of 10 minutes (and I have no figures to back that up, so if anyone knows what the true average is, tell me) I'd say make it a 20 minute fast paced match to keep the audience interested. Same rules apply: you get one point for each DQ, countout, pin, or submission win that you attain and the man with the most points at the end of the time limit wins. Granted, with the WWE, they'd have it a dead-even toss, like 3-3, until Hardy would get a quick roll-up win or hit the Twist of Fate. It'd definitely be entertaining, though. Give us that for Survivor Series and a ladder match for Cyber Sunday and I'll be happy with that section of the show.

sorry if i sound stupid here becuase i might have just missed something but i swear i read it was supposed to be hardy/mvp vs undertaker/kane?

sorry if this is old news

From talking to both of them they are having a lot of fun in this fued.
I jokingly asked them if htey are going to go golfing for thier next challenge and MVP said they were jsut talking about that becasue his long game is better and Matt's short game is better so they should have a contest to see who can drive the ball farther th which Matt said they should ahve a putting contest...
I think this is propeling both of these guys and keeping them in the spotlight on Smackdown. Matt is that guy that amny of us including me would like to see as world champinon but seems to get buried often, MVP is bound for greatness, they are doing well for each toehr in this and I htink people are interseted to see how it will all play out.
I didn't understand the pioint of the pizza eating contest though, that doesn't proove anything physical except that you can eat food fast, which MVP showed he can't do, the other contests though have been entertaining.

This feud is great. It should keep goin for a little while longer. Most people want to see Hardy vs. MVP so it's working.

The way it will go is Hardy will win pretty much all the challenges. When they finally make the match everyone will expect Hardy to win. But he wont. It'll be brilliant. Everyone will get angry and MVP will look like more of a star than he did before.

Hardy deserves a run. But MVP deserves a longer run more.

They need to keep the Hardy vs MVP angle going. In my opinion this is the most entertaining program currently happening on Smackdown, but it is time to tone down the contest and make the heat on each other seem real. Right now it has been very comical, but with the way it has been portrayed they don't have a deep hatred for each other yet. It's time to take things up a notch, its time to make it seam like they have a deep hatred of each other. The main problem is MVP in trying to appear angry comes of comical (by design), and Matt Hardy neeeds the attitude he had in his feud with Edge. If they take it to the next level both of these superstars will explode out of this feud.

I agree too that they do need to put some more in ring competition i think they should have MVP defend the title on some random smackdown again either deuce or domino and have MVP lose by them cheating. Have Hardy either absent from the show or got held up for some reason in the back, this will create some heat between them. Then have Hardy fight (whichever of the D&D has the title) and take the title from him. Now they are still tag champs and hardy now has the belt which would make MVP ven more angry and put some real competition into this fued maybe first costing them the tag titles. Then at the next ppv have a TLC match or something to that nature.

This wont happen (I don't think Hardy will be winning the title) but here is how I think the end of the angle should go. I think over the next few weeks MVP & Hardy should become proper friends. MVP still a heel but Hardy still a face. But they have respect for each other and don't want to lose the titles. But MVP does something to enrage Vickie Guerrero so she makes a title matcvh between them and Khali & Henry. Obviously MVP wants nothing to do with this match, so Hardy get's beaten down and loses the titles. MVP is angry after the match and gives Hardy another beatdown. Hardy disappears for a few months while MVP goes into a feud with somebody else. Hardy returns at The Rumble and eliminates MVP. They make the match at Mania with Hardy winning.

Now I'd like it to go this way because while I want Hardy to get the title, I also don't want MVP to lose. I don't think he's quite ready for a main event position but he will be within the next few months. This way MVP gets a longer title reign with Hardy still becoming champ. I also think this feud has been too good to just have the final match on a 'B' Show.

I can't wait for the big payoff of this feud although they stunk up the place at the GAB (i think it was). Still Jake's series of events would be pretty cool but I see Matt Hardy winning the title off him soon. They need to keep this feud going strong cause if not it will get stale quickly.
