Most Underrated Fued/Angle/Storyline whatever

Another topic "What tag teams do you miss?" actually reminded me of an angle in ECW that I loved. Chris Candino and Lance Storm were tag team champions, but Candino turned on Storm when Bam Bam Bigelow rejoined Triple Threat. However they were forced to defend the tag titles despite their personal fued and were told if either of them delibrately cost their team the tag titles that person would be fired. Their reign acutally lasted about six months before they dropped the belts to Rob Van Dam and Sabu. I thought the angle was very smart. The "one turning on the other" thing had been done befor but usually they had the titles decided by each member picking a new partner and fighting it out or even lamer a singles match to determine the champion. (I'm looking at you WCW, Sting and Giant). ECW did it right and it made for an interesting fued revolving around a championship. Anyway my question is what fued or angle do you remember that's not talked about much today, one that you loved and you feel is underrated. Discuss.

I think Chris Jericho’s Undisputed Title run was underrated and overshadowed in the worst way. It starts of great with Y2J’s buildup from the time he debut in the face of the Rock to his Vengeance victories over two of the best of all time. Then his victory over the Rock at the Royal Rumble was second to Triple H’s comeback victory in the Rumble match. Then his victory over Austin was looked passed because of the WWE debut of the N.W.O. at N.W.O. (HAHA!!) as well as Rock / Taker and Angle / HHH. Then at the Grandest Stage of them all, the headlined Main Event, the craziest, never thought it was ever going to happen, ever, no it’s not Jericho Main Eventing WrestleMania, it’s Hollywood Hulk Hogan vs. The Rock. Oh well. I still enjoyed the 4 month run.

I really enjoyed the backstage segments between The Rock and The Hurricane sometime around WM19. I thought they were pretty funny and those segments lead to a match on Raw where The Hurricane pinned The Rock with a school boy thanks to a distraction from Stone Cold. I certainly enjoyed watching that. Not very significant in the big picture of things, but I felt that this storyline did a good job of entertaining the fans. After all, in the WWE that is quite literally the name of the game...entertainment.

Im not too surprised nobody mentioned the Angle/HHH/stephanie love triangle from 2001

that was one of my favoruite storylines and it really helped angle get over that little bit before his first wwf title win

I think the most underated fude that i can think of has to be Million Dollar Man Ted Dibiase and Virgil back in 1991 the storyline was great and it happend at Summer Slam 91 but heres a nother fude that i think that was underrated The Big Boss Man and The Mountie two cops fighing each other to see who actually belongs in the WWF to me the Boss Man Mountie match will go down in history as the most underrated match of all time in the early 90's

I think the Hulk Hogan vs Undertaker fued in 2002 was overshadowed a little, It keeped me watching

but JTS32 said the other one I really liked, Lance Storm and Chris Candino Tag Title Situation

Great posts thanks for the replies. Another that came to mind was The Fantastics versus The Midnight Express in the late 80s. Remember that match during the first Clash of the Champions? Those teams had some great matches and they were mainly for the U.S. Tag Team Titles, wow a tag team division deep enough for two titles who would think? Anyway those were some great matches I think much better than the fued the Rock n Roll Express had with the Midnight Express, but that's just my opinion.

Most underrated fued was the original ECW invasion of WWE/WWF when ECW was about to have their 1st PPV. Not so much for what they did on Monday Night Raw but what ECW did on their show. Having Jerry Lawler come to ECW arena, having Sabu/Van Dam join with Lawler and having ECW wrestlers who hated each other help each other out. One night at the arena they had Dreamer, Sandman, New Jack/Mustafa, and Taz all come out to get rid of the WWF onslaught with Shane Douglas and the triple threat being neutral to the fued. It was very intense atmosphere they created.

Another underrated fued was Mickey James/ Trish Stratus when Mickie 1st came into the WWE. Their match at Mania in chicago was incredible and alot of people blow it off cause its a divas match/fued.

Whoever said The Fantastics and the Express were right on, I still remember Bobby Fulton in a bloody mess trying to make a tag...great matches

I think I have a few that come to mind. First the Riick Martel v Jake Roberts match which ended in the blindfold match. Bret Hart v. Kevin Nash over the WWF title when Bret won the submission match by hitting a figure four around the ring post was really good. Recently I think the Christian v Swagger feud was underrated casue those match were absoltuely phenomenal

I'm going to go with Bob Backlund in 1994. For those who may be to young to remember, I'll fill you in. Bob Backlund made his return to the WWF in 1992 after being gone for nine years. He was a squeeky clean babyface who always showed good sportsmanship. Not many fans seemed to care about his comeback and he was often overlooked on the roster. This is someone who held the WWF title for over six years we're talking about.

In the summer of 1994, on a random show of superstars, Backlund got a title shot against Bret Hart. At one point Backlund thought he had won the match and was celebrating his victory. The ref waived the decision off and the match continued. Bret went on to beat Backlund. After the match Backlund snapped. He locked Bret in his crossface chicken wing and refused to let go. Obviously this was VERY uncharacteristic of Backlund. Over the next several weeks Backlund would go through a serious personality change and turn heel. He would claim that he was the real champion because he never lost the title. What made it interesting was he had a point. He lost the title to The Iron Sheik in 1983 when his manager Arnold Skaaland threw in the towel when Backlund was trapped in the camel clutch. Backlund was never pinned and he did not submit. Backlund actually locked Skaaland in the chicken wing as part of his heel turn. Backlund took it a step further stating he should be champion because he was a good role model that the fans could be proud of. He would go on to scream at fans about what was wrong with society and demanded they change their was to become better citiznes. You would need to keep a dictionary handy because Bob liked to use really big words to show off his intelligence during these promos. It took pretty much all summer for Backlund to make the full transition into a top heel. This led to a Survivor Series title match against Bret. The stipulation was the match could only end when someone's corner man threw in the towel. I had no idea who was going to win this match (thank goodness I didn't have the internet to tell me Bret was taking a short hiatus to film a tv show and spoil the match for me). Turns out Backlund won and enjoyed a three day title reign.

What is most impressive about this story/feud is how the WWF made the most of what they had. They were a little short on main event heels at the time and did a great job of transforming someone who the fans hardly noticed was on the roster into a top heel. Also Backlund played his new role to perfection and successfully reinvented himself after years and years of playing the good guy. Six months before this match you wouldn't think Backlund even would get on a major ppv, much less win the title. All of a sudden there he was in a very intersting story.

I have to say probably in my opinion the most underestimated feud would have to be Christian vs Chris Jericho. To me it had a little bit of everything for everyone. You had Trish to add into the drama and you had a lot of action between Jericho and Christian. Personally I feel like that should have lasted a lot longer then it did, but had a very disappointing and in my mind a abrupt ending.
