MMA in the Bar room!! *In memorium of JMT and TDigs' thread*

Aha! The multiple quote game!

Because he got beat in 13 seconds.
In something like a fluke making the rematch more logical and fair.

Repeatedly pulled out of big time fights
Without any logical reason, right?

and refused to do a rematch with McGregor when offered.
Yeah. Because he wasn't going to fight a champion on short notice.

And McGregor didn't get his own terms.
He did. With all his egomaniac attitude, he does whatever he wants to.

The fight he had been set for was at 155. He fought Nate at 170. That was so Nate could make weight.
Yes. It would've been difficult for Nate to make 155. So McGregor made 170 which was comparatively easier.

McGregor NEVER fought on his own terms against Nate.
Didn't he get his rematch soon after he was decisively defeated? Something Aldo never got.

No, he's fighting the biggest star in the history of PPV.
Irrelevant.

He can have 1 fight with Mayweather and retire.
Yeah. I would just want the title to be defended atleast once.

He has a child and a finance.
Almost everyone has a family.

He is looking out for them.
So?

Fuck fairness.
:lmao:

Why? Because it doesn't favor you? Tell me the same when fairness favors you.

This is business and I sport anyone who can provide for their family like McGregor is going to do. They will be set for life.
You're saying as if he's doing something extraordinary. As if he can't retire already on the money he has?

BUT MCGREGOR TOOK THE FIGHT!
BECAUSE HE WAS SCHEDULED FOR A FIGHT. SO, HE WAS TRAINING.

ALDO WASN'T.

That's the difference. He fought Nate, a situation where NOTHING was in favour of McGregor and once he lost he got a rematch because he stepped the fuck up for the UFC at the final hour.
He was already training for the fight. Aldo wasn't. Is it easy to fight with training or without training?

Aldo bitched out like he always does.
Couldn't care less about whatever he says. Even more for a egomaniac like McGregor.

That's the difference.
Right. One got a rematch and other didn't.

Not ducking Aldo. Agreed to fight him THREE fucking times. Aldo found a way out of two of them.
Or he was actually injured? Or he's always faking it to find a way out of a fight with McGregor?

McGregor no longer in that division. Can't duck someone who isn't in your division and that you already beat.
Eddie Alvarez wasn't in his division either. See how it works in his favour now?

Nurma is always hurt. Hasn't earned a title shot without multiple fights without pulling out.
Still undefeated.

Ferguson or Mayweather. Yeah. I know which one I'd fight.
Yeah, get as much as money possible. But at least have guts to relinquish your title. Not hold it hostage like he's doing now.

By the way, very interested in UFC 213. At least 4 good fights if they're actually held if not for any injury or something.

This is the thing, as much as the UFC brass will deny it. The UFC is a business first, and a sport second. I don't like Connor. Can't fucking stand him. He is, no question, one of if not the biggest star in MMA today though. That is why the UFC is more willing to give into his demands. He makes them money. They want to continue making money off him, so they will do their best to please him. Connor grew up a fan of wrestling and the WWE, that is why he can play a character and talk a big game.

That is why Dana is allowing him to take a boxing fight. Do you think if some random guy who has a 5-3 record in the UFC wanted to take an outside fight they would let him? I'm like 99% certain that Overeem has tried multiple times to take kickboxing matches and they deny him, because the risk isn't worth the reward.

Aldo is a legend. I remember his WEC days when he was a legit murderer. I never thought he would lose. Maybe his loss to Connor was a fluke. Remember when Tito beat Ryan Bader after like five years without a win? Remember when Sokoudjou beat Lil Nog in Pride in what was statistically the biggest betting line upset in MMA history? Guys can land a lucky punch. It does happen. Since that loss though, Aldo hasn't been the same killer he once was. On top of that, he was never truly a big draw. It's the same issue with DJ right now. Great fighter, but they don't move the needle, to quote Dana. Fair or not, and like Prophet said Aldo had chances, that is the world of the UFC. Like many legends before him, much like Anderson Silva, his downfall happened all at once. He was so great for so many years, then it basically toppled overnight. Maybe Aldo will get that rematch and prove it was a fluke, but he was exposed in his last fight. Halloway showed that if you could sit back and take a punch, which isn't easy from Aldo, he would wear himself down and be suceptible to being counter punched. Connor can take a pretty good shot and that left hand is dynamite.

If you want a fair and balanced match making system, then watch World Series of Fighting or Bellator when they aren't putting on circus fights.

Yeah, I want fair and balanced match. And I know that McGregor will be favored.

But still it's unfair for someone like Aldo or Nurmagomedov or anyone else. That's my only point. And such unfair favor shouldn't be justified. That's all. It's wrong regardless of whoever doing it.

That Tito/Bader moment was amazing, Yaz. And the call from Goldberg "Tito Ortiz has defeated Ryan Bader! His first win since October of 2006, with his back against the wall!" One of the greatest calls in MMA history. Up there with "He front kicked him in the face!" from Rogan about Anderson/Belfort.

I still remember the day Anderson's empire came crashing down to the ground.

Beautiful to watch. I think it's going to be that same feeling when Jones beats DC into retirement next month.

I still remember where I was and what I was doing when Wideman toppled the Spider empire. I was at a sports bar with a friend who wasn't really a fan and I was explaining a few things to him and before that fight I was talking about how Silva was basically MMA God. He was watching in awe at the highlights, especially the fight with Forrest when he basically went all Matrix and was just dodging punches. In ten years, Silva had been challenged one time. Yeah, Chael worked him over and almost stole it, but he won th rematch in a huge way.

I remember eating my wings and watching Wideman tag Silva a couple times and I said out loud "Silva is gonna hit some crazy kick or something in a minute and it will all be over." I looked down to read a text and the bar went ape shit and I look up and Silva was on the mat, getting his face caved in.

In the few seconds it took me to glance at a text, it all came crashing down around him.

The rematch, Silva looked a little better but Wideman was still better. That leg kick though, man I still cringe to this day when a lanky guy like Anderson throws a leg kick because of that. It's sad in a way, because Wideman was going to win that fight regardless, but for Silva to just shatter his own leg. He should have called it a career at that point.

Don't get me started on the Anderson/Sonnen rematch.

Anderson trying to get a DQ at the weigh-ins, Anderson grabbing Chael's shorts in the second round and hitting a downed opponent with a knee to the head. Fucking bullshit!

The first fight brings tears to my eyes. Especially when Rogan says "He has to watch out for the triangle. Anderson has the wrist. That's him setting up for the triangle" and he says it multiple times throughout the fight. Heart breaking.

Joe gets some crap about being too into the little intricies involved in the BJJ game, but his call that night was spot on.

So anyway, Lady Cyborg. I really wanna hear your take on this one Prophet.

Fuck Cyborg! Failed two drug tests in the past for steroids. Don't want people coming in here bringing up the Diaz brothers or Jones. Not steroids. Doesn't mean the same thing.

Megan Anderson gonna carry the green and gold towards a World Title. Book it! On the same night Jon Jones reclaims the title he never lost and retires DC, Megan Anderson will wipe this drug cheat out.

Joanna, Anderson and Shevchenko all going to have gold soon. My peeps!

Hahaha loved Rogan absolutely orgasming when Silva started the triangle against Sonnen. I was pissed off the whole fight. I wanted a Silva win, dad wanted a Sonnen win. I couldn't handle Silva doing fuck all against Sonnen, especially when Sonnen has a Mcgregor like mouth (though I do love the guy now). Even my heart broke for Sonnen though, less than two minutes away to one hell of a victory and moment in history.

The thing I love about the first Anderson/Sonnen fight is that the crowd starts off cheering Anderson. Slowly throughout the fight they begin to cheer Sonnen and then by the final round it's all for Chael. It's remarkable to watch really.

They were the perfect opponents. Total opposites and that's what made it great. I miss those days. Look at the picture! At the time that was the baddest man on the planet, the GOAT and Chael Sonnen didn't give a fuck.

Chael beat Wanderlei by UD with scores of 30-26, 30-27, 30-27. He's probably going to fight for a title soon just because he sells so well.

Bader won the LHW title against Phil Davis.

Fedor lost again. Lol.

Trying to say that he was sick but I would have thought if he was sick he'd drop faster. He's full of shit if you ask me, he seemed like he was giving an excuse that he didnt even believe

I mean, we have to now know for sure that Hendricks was on something during the prime of his career. This has been the biggest fall from grace I've seen. With no major loss, stunning KO or significant change other than USADA enforcing a stronger policy we have seen Hendricks' career fall apart.

Take Chuck Liddell for example. His career saw him lose multiple fights in a row at the end of his career but they were all one punch/stunning KOs. We saw Liddell's chin just completely go because of years of fighting. Hendricks doesn't have that. He was a world champion, USADA came in and went strict with the drug policy and then boom! Hendricks became shit. You don't have the same experience as Liddell where he lost all his fights the same way and it was clear his body had run out of steam.

Chuck's decline was sad. You could argue that he was the first true MMA star, but his chin was so shot by the end. That last fight with Franklin, the punch that knocked him out, came from an arm Franklin broke earlier in the fight blocking a kick.

Hendricks should just be let go at this point. He was never an overly exciting or marketable fighter. He kept missing weight at 170, so he moves up to 185 and still missed. It's always an excuse too.

Woodley vs. Maia has been added to 214! We could potentially see both DC & Woodley, the two most obnoxious champs in UFC right now, lose their belts!!

Cerrone/Lawler has been delayed, may be happening at 214 now instead. Apparently Cerrone has some blood disease or something he needed to get taken care of.

There is a really good opinion piece on Sherdog on this if anyone is so inclined to check it out.

So I don't like the Diaz brothers. I'm just not a fan of either guy. That said, this is some bullshit. Part of the USDA-UFC drug testing partnership is that any fighter under UFC contract can be tested at any time with no notice. I don't really have much of an issue with that. It exposed Hendrix as a fraud. What I take issue with is that anytime they feel like it, the USDA can contact a fighter and ask for their location. They then have to use an app on their phone and send the USDA their exact GPS coordinates. Guess who is about to be the first guy suspended for failing to do this three times?

If you said Nick Diaz, you are a smart man. It was released yesterday that Nick was flagged for a doping violation. Turns out, he hasn't even been tested, he just failed to check in for the third time in a twelve month period. Because of this, it is automatically being counted as a failed test. It's complete and utter horse shit.

We already know that the UFC will pull strings to get guys around standard testing procedures, hello Brock. What pisses me off is that it's been close to three years since Nick last fought and Dana said it's likely he won't fight in the UFC again. So why the fuck is a guy who isn't going to ever fight under your banner again being tested? Why not release him from his contract?

Nick isn't without fault. He is in his mid 30s and has to basically be babysat to make sure he doesn't flake on media obligations. I have anxiety, and honestly Nick likely does too. I totally get his reluctance, but he is a grown man.

Don't even get me started on testing for weed either. Add that the Nevada Athletic Commission is about as stupid as it is corrupt, and the system is fucked and Nick is feeling that right now.

Brendan Schaub hasn't fought since 2014, is retired and working for Bellator. If he said he wanted to fight again he must compete with the UFC due to him still having fights left on his contract from 3 years ago. They don't release people most of the time. They freeze the contract and if the person ever wants to fight again they have to compete their deal. It's why you see the Roy Nelson's of the world taking fight after fight just trying to get through the deal as fast as possible so they can be free of the company.

Nick is such a big name, especially with the mainstream attention Nate got, that UFC wouldn't want him fighting elsewhere. He still has fights on his UFC contract and until he completes his deal they can do whatever. Retirement doesn't cancel the UFC contract, they freeze it and wait to see if you are truly retired. I don't know how long they can freeze it for but Schaub has stated if he wanted to fight again he'd have to complete his UFC deal and it's been 3 years.

So in an recent interview Dana said GSP will be getting the winner of Woodley/Maia. I really really really hope Maia beats Woodley now.

Also Conor apparently told Dana he wants Khabib in Russia.
