Mike Adamle had potential to be THE BEST GM in WWE history

Ambiguous Turd

Mid-Card Championship Winner
I admit that about a month before a new GM was named to Raw, I had suggested Mike Adamle's name for the position on another forum.

Now, of all the people that Lord Sidious could have chosen, why on Earth would he pick Mike Adamle of all people, for Raw General Manager? Why? Because Mike Adamle was a character just being himself and he connected to the audience. Although I admit, I pitched my vision for Mike Adamle as GM in an entirely different manner than the one we actually got.

Power-hungry Heel GM's are overdone in this day and age. They've been utilized since Vince McMahon first turned Heel on Raw. The problem I find is that WWE does not think outside of the box. Why do Heel GM's need to be the stereotypical over-the-top power hungry GM's that abuse their authority? They don't have to be.

My version of Mike Adamle was inspired from a Heel character that we have never seen before.

What types of bosses out there do you hate? You have:

Bosses who are obsessed with power and authority
Bosses who do all the work themselves and refuse to delegate
Bosses who are incredibly cruel and self-centered
Bossed who sleep around with other workers

and then you have .... "The bumbling idiot in charge". THAT WAS MIKE ADAMLE.

And I thought the answer was so incredibly obvious to WWE, that I was excited that they actually got it. To my utter amazement, they still didn't get it right and missed the boat BIG TIME.

Part of Adamle's appeal as a character was that he was REALLY naive to the business. What better person to portray a character like that, then someone who himself was the inspiration for the role? That and of course the number of bumbling idiots you've seen all over TV and movie roles throughout the years?

Mike Adamle in this character would have had a blend of comedic gold as well as dramatic moments. It would not have been anything remotely what you saw them do ... which was try to have him taken seriously. That was the magic of Adamle originally connecting with the fans ... NOBODY TOOK HIM SERIOUSLY. So why change that?

Adamle would have been someone so oblivious to protocol and formalities, it would have provided countless entertainment for Raw. Someone who is so awful, but doesn't himself realize how awful he was. Therefore, I would want Adamle's character thinking he was actually a stellar employee, even though he was anything but.

He could have:

1) Come down to ringside, unhappy with Michael Cole's Play by Play commentary on the mic ... and therefore got on headset with Cole to give him "pointers" on "how to do Play by Play" the "Adamle way".

2) Innocently asked stars like John Cena or Triple H to get the staff some coffee ... and not treating them like stars, but rather employees.

3) Not known who people like Shawn Michaels was and tried to put him in matches with people like the Brooklyn Brawler

4) Could have frequently messed up the names of high profile matches- like call a Triple Threat Match a "Three Corners Match"

and so forth.

Mike Adamle's appeal actually came from his true-life ignorance. That was WHY the fans cared about him. And the WWE took that all away and tried to actually put him on the show as a "Serious GM". What the Hell were they thinking?

In the day and age when characters are stale, and its hard to find things that have never been done before, they had absolute gold with Mike Adamle. They had potential for one of the best characters in WWE history, with the right person playing the part (himself) .... and most importantly, something THEY HAVE NEVER DONE BEFORE. And they let it all slip through their fingers.

Your thoughts and comments, please.

Sidious, I agree with you 100%. If you'll look far, far back in the WWE forum, you may find a thread I made called "Mike Adamle Had Potential" where I believe I mention an idea similar to yours. Adamle had so much untapped potential it's insane. He could have been the bumbling idiot in charge, which would have fit perfectly with his already established character, or he could have been the guy that just didn't care, and was only there to get a check and leave.

It's a shame they never followed through with him guest hosting RAW. I was looking forward to seeing him back.

Adamle as The Bubling Idiot in Charge would have been far more entertaining than anything done on Raw in years. Because this is the type of comedy I feel the fans are starved for. Not corny DX crap humor, but an actually funny character that has been placed in a serious situation.

The appeal comes with the fact that the character is really just a play on himself. There would be no better person for this role than Mike Adamle, and they absolutely blew it.

Completely agreed. I always really liked Adamle, in that he had so much comic potential. He just had the voice, face, and mannerisms that made you want to laugh and dislike him at the same time. He would have been a perfect candidate for the character...because he WAS the character.
It's interesting. This man called for the Olympics, and hosted American Gladiators. I almost want to believe that the bumbling idiot he was on commentary was half-character, half-being out of his element.

Mike Adalme could of been a great person in charge of WWE. I mean I remember when he told Kane that he needed to relax on his rampage cause kids were watching the show. He was funny and in a good way plus like you people said was a different type of GM. I wish he was still around as RAW GM, instead of this silly RAW guest host thing they have going on right now. Maybe he could be a guest host for one night only, I think that would be just purely awesome. Or maybe he could come back and be GM of SD, since T.L. is boring now and run his course.

While I agree with you guys that this would have been entertaining.... wouldn't the fans eventually have gotten sick of the fact that Adamle had no idea what he was doing? I think that it could have worked up until the Royal Rumble.... but after that the McMahons would still have needed to step in so that the Orton/HHH storyline would have played out correctly.

This would have been HILARIOUS for a few months, but eventually the time would come when they actually needed a serious character in the authority figure role because the fans might have gotten a little sick of having an idiot in charge by the time the Wrestlemania storylines were starting.

Sidious and Doc.... I'll at least give you guys this. Adamle as an "idiot in charge character" in the GM role would have been INFINITELY better than all the idiotic guest hosts we have now. My dislike for the guest host concept is no secret on this forum and I would have preferred a silly boss who knows little about the business but actually tried, rather than most of the celebrities we get now because sometimes they are just awful.

Dagger, I believe that Adamle could have over time adapted to become a serious GM. We could see him reading wrestling books or going to WWE.com to research things. Just small segments to facilitate his character change so that by Wrestlemania he would have been the impartial, serious GM they tried making him be, but he would have been much better at it. I'm sure the WWE could have worked in the McMahons if they really wanted to. Maybe have Orton punt Adamle to get him off the air.

Or Mike Adalme could of just been thecocky, arrogant boss that you hate. I mean all the heel authority figures tried to be tyrants, but none of them were really cocky and arrogant to an extent. Maybe Adalme could of played that too other then the bumbling idiot general manager. But Mike Adalme should be RAW guest host, WWE should contact him and have him be the man for one night only. I feel he would be the best general manager for the guest host concept that they had so far. Even bettere then the hall of fame legends too.

I have to disagree. I think he could have had the potential if he had taken his job seriously. I don’t think Mike Adamle took the job seriously as he should have. I mean with all the mistakes he was making, you would think it would be common sense to practice what he is saying before saying it. It’s fine making 1 or 2 mistakes but making more then 2 is out of the question.
