Ambiguous Turd
Mid-Card Championship Winner
I admit that about a month before a new GM was named to Raw, I had suggested Mike Adamle's name for the position on another forum.
Now, of all the people that Lord Sidious could have chosen, why on Earth would he pick Mike Adamle of all people, for Raw General Manager? Why? Because Mike Adamle was a character just being himself and he connected to the audience. Although I admit, I pitched my vision for Mike Adamle as GM in an entirely different manner than the one we actually got.
Power-hungry Heel GM's are overdone in this day and age. They've been utilized since Vince McMahon first turned Heel on Raw. The problem I find is that WWE does not think outside of the box. Why do Heel GM's need to be the stereotypical over-the-top power hungry GM's that abuse their authority? They don't have to be.
My version of Mike Adamle was inspired from a Heel character that we have never seen before.
What types of bosses out there do you hate? You have:
Bosses who are obsessed with power and authority
Bosses who do all the work themselves and refuse to delegate
Bosses who are incredibly cruel and self-centered
Bossed who sleep around with other workers
and then you have .... "The bumbling idiot in charge". THAT WAS MIKE ADAMLE.
And I thought the answer was so incredibly obvious to WWE, that I was excited that they actually got it. To my utter amazement, they still didn't get it right and missed the boat BIG TIME.
Part of Adamle's appeal as a character was that he was REALLY naive to the business. What better person to portray a character like that, then someone who himself was the inspiration for the role? That and of course the number of bumbling idiots you've seen all over TV and movie roles throughout the years?
Mike Adamle in this character would have had a blend of comedic gold as well as dramatic moments. It would not have been anything remotely what you saw them do ... which was try to have him taken seriously. That was the magic of Adamle originally connecting with the fans ... NOBODY TOOK HIM SERIOUSLY. So why change that?
Adamle would have been someone so oblivious to protocol and formalities, it would have provided countless entertainment for Raw. Someone who is so awful, but doesn't himself realize how awful he was. Therefore, I would want Adamle's character thinking he was actually a stellar employee, even though he was anything but.
He could have:
1) Come down to ringside, unhappy with Michael Cole's Play by Play commentary on the mic ... and therefore got on headset with Cole to give him "pointers" on "how to do Play by Play" the "Adamle way".
2) Innocently asked stars like John Cena or Triple H to get the staff some coffee ... and not treating them like stars, but rather employees.
3) Not known who people like Shawn Michaels was and tried to put him in matches with people like the Brooklyn Brawler
4) Could have frequently messed up the names of high profile matches- like call a Triple Threat Match a "Three Corners Match"
and so forth.
Mike Adamle's appeal actually came from his true-life ignorance. That was WHY the fans cared about him. And the WWE took that all away and tried to actually put him on the show as a "Serious GM". What the Hell were they thinking?
In the day and age when characters are stale, and its hard to find things that have never been done before, they had absolute gold with Mike Adamle. They had potential for one of the best characters in WWE history, with the right person playing the part (himself) .... and most importantly, something THEY HAVE NEVER DONE BEFORE. And they let it all slip through their fingers.
Your thoughts and comments, please.
