Well the NFL has officially reached the middle of the season (boy it went by fast). So with that being said, who do you believe are the front runners for the main awards? R
MVP
1. Drew Brees, Saints (106.1 rtg, 2,336 yds, 17 TD, 7 INT)
-Brees has been one of, if not the best QB in the NFL this year. He is the heart and soul of this New Orleans teams that has been money this year and is currently undefeated.
2. Peyton Manning, Colts (105.2 rtg, 2,545 yds, 16 TD, 5 INT)
-When isn't Peyton Manning's name in the MVP race. Again he is having a fantastic season and just like the Saints, the Colts are undefeated. They have a big test this week against NE and if they win, I think that could propel Manning to be the favorite.
3. Brett Favre, Vikings (106.0 rtg, 1,925 yds, 16 TD, 3 INT)
-While the yardage may not be there, Favre has certainly has paid off for the Vikes thus far. Favre has been on his A-game all year and doesn't seem to be that old, just chuck to whoever Brett Favre. He is playing good, smart football and making the Vikings offense a viable threat.
Defensive Player
1. Darren Sharper, Saints (35 tackles, .5 sacks, 7 INT, 12 pdef, 3 TD)
-DSharp has found his edge again and has been a big reason for the Saints defense turning into a top notch unit. New DC Gregg Williams deserves most of the credit in that category. But Sharper has been all over the field and is a threat to score anytime he touches the rock.
2. Jared Allen, Vikings (34 tackles, 10.5 sacks, 3 FF, 1 safety)
-The best defensive end and one of the funniest guys in football. JA is a bit crazy and it shows. The mans man of Minnesota has been nothing but great since joining the Vikes. The MMA, game hunting, defensive end has ripped it up this year and could very easily put up 20 sacks.
3. James Harrison, Steelers (48 tackles, 8 sacks, 4 FF)
-Harrison is an absolute monster and it shows. The guy just flat out owns most LT and is constantly double teamed. He has a non stop motor, just like Jared Allen and he is a threat to get a sack and/or a strip any time he gets near the QB.
Offensive Rookie
1. Percy Harvin, Vikings (28 rec, 369 yds, 3 TD, 860 return yds, 2 TD
-Percy "Oh Mercy" Harvin has been an absolute playmaker for the Vikes. Not many (including myself) didn't expect Harvin to show this much promise this early in his career. He has been the ultimate playmaker for Minny and he is just another dangerous threat to an already dangerous offense.
2. Mike Wallace, Steelers (25 rec, 437 yds, 3 TD)
-Mike Wallace has been a pleasant and quiet surprise in Pittsburgh. Wallace has really stepped it up and has garnered himself the playing time he deserves. He has been one of the best all around rookies and he should continue to get better with more time.
3. Hakeem Nicks, Giants (23 rec, 407 yds, 4 TD)
-Nicks is finding ways to get the ball right now in NY. Manningham has been injured and has been struggling and Nicks has stepped in and played some great football. He was named the Rookie of the Month and if him and Eli continue to develop chemistry, he could finish off very strong.
Defensive Rookie
1. Jairus Byrd, Bills (32 tackles, 7 INT, 9 pdef)
-Byrd, like Wallace has been quite the surprise. He has really stepped up in Buffalo in Whitner's absence. Byrd is tied with Sharper for the league lead in interceptions and the young kid is developing into a good safety.
2. Brian Cushing, Texans (78 tackles, 1.5 sacks, 2 FF, 2 INT, 1 safety)
-Brian Cushing has been coming on strong of late for the Texans and is becoming a standout on their defense. Cushing gets good pressure to the QB and is amongst the league leaders in tackles.
3. Vontae Davis, Dolphins (23 tackles, 2 INT, 6 pdef, 1 TD)
-Davis has played good for the Phins as their starting CB. While Randy Moss made a fool of him this past week, he is still having a solid season and had a great INT off of Brady. And who doesn't Randy Moss embarrass haha. Davis is now under more pressure, as he has assumed the number 1 role with Will Allen going down with a season ending injury.
Alright, for the last two I'm going to be lazy. Comeback player of the year is Tom Brady. I can't see any way he doesn't win, though Carson Palmer or Chad Ochocinco could make a solid case. And for coach of the year, you could go with Payton, Caldwell, or Childress. But I'm going with McDaniels right now, as no one expected Denver to be solid this season.
