*MERGED* Cody Rhodes Future

So, with Legacy pretty much being dead and apparently at Wrestlemania, I'm expecting Ted DiBiase and Cody Rhodes to turn on each other. Which will in turn possibly send them on their own different paths.. DiBiase's future seems brighter through a standpoint perspective. (he could take on the Million Dollar Championship if nothing else)

So whats next for Cody Rhodes?

While I'm sure its a pipe dream and one they likely aren't even considering. I'd LOVE to see Dustin Rhodes drop the tireless Goldust gimmick, and align himself with his real life brother, to form a Tag team.

Now, I get that it isn't really a step forward for Cody to be thrust into another Tag team. However, its not exactly like he has the quality to become a top Single's star like DiBiase could become. I think Cody is the "Jannetty", to DiBiase's "Michaels", as it were. So why not form a Family tag team?

It would add depth to the Tag division, form a credible team, and give BOTH individuals something to do instead of jobbing and/or being released.

What are everyone's opinions on this, as well as other opinions and thoughts on Cody's future? Where should he go? What should he do?

It would be cool for Cody to Team up with his brother Dustin and form and tag team, They would probably win the belts if they did this, But i really don't see that happening. Cody has enough skill to be a single star. He has the in-ring skill to become a mid-card title holder, US or Intercontinental.

But the best thing to do would have Orton beat both of them at WM, which should happen, and have Legacy stick together. Legacy/Priceless is a great tag team (probably the best in WWE) and they deserve a good long run with the Unified Titles.

Maybe I missed the huge push that Ted DiBiase received that suggests he'll be a bigger star than Cody Rhodes.... <aybe I have my volume dialed down when DiBiase is introduced, and I don't notice the massive crowd reaction his name elicits from the crowd... Why does everyone assume that DiBiase is going to be such a bigger star than Rhodes?

Is DiBiase so much bigger than Rhodes? Does DiBiase have better mic skills? Was DiBiase's father more of a legend than Rhodes's father?

Really, what is it about DiBiase? I've heard on these boards for a year that he'll be bigger, but no one has ever given a reason. People kept saying for 6 months that Orton and DiBiase would have a WrestleMania match and that Rhodes would be forgotten. Well now that it has been made into a triple threat match with all three members, I'm curious why people continue to say that Rhodes will be forgotten.

Here is what I see in Rhodes future --- the exact same thing I see in DiBiase's future. Please, someone give me ONE reason to see something different.

The biggest problem with this is that Dustin Rhodes has always had difficulty getting over without a gimmick like Goldust. I dont see him dropping the Goldust character just to give Cody something to do until Creative comes up with a singles program for Cody to work.

Now that doesnt mean that the two cant work an angle together. I can see a concerned Cody trying to get his older brother some therapy to get the make up to come off. This could result in a feud where either Cody or Dustin could work the heel and the angle would still work. Cody could play the face, trying to help his disturbed brother. Or he could play the heel where he's trying to force Dustin to change who he is just because Cody doesnt like the gimmick. Then you could see Goldust face off against Cody to retain the right to stay a freak. Kinda like Rey Mysterio wrestling to keep his mask.

These two could work an angle together for sure, but I dont see them teaming up. Cody will probably come out of the Legacy angle as a heel whereas Goldust is more of a face. Having these two feud with each other could help get them over more. I think people would pop more for this angle than anything else they could do with Cody right now, since DiBiase is getting the most out of Legacy breaking up. Its possible they might keep Cody with Ted after Wrestlemania, especially if Ted loses. Either way, DiBiase is in a singles match against Orton on the biggest night of the year. Whether you like it or not, the WWE feels that DiBiase has the potential to be the bigger star of the two. I can see Cody becoming a mainstay mid-card talent, but as far as the world title picture goes, DiBiase has a better chance.

I think Cody is just as talented as Ted in the ring. On the mic, I'm not so sure. But I don't think Cody Rhodes is headed for jobber status or release. I would guess he will hang around the congested mid card area for a while, as will Ted.

I hope Ted and Cody stick together, kind of like Flair and Arn Anderson. I think they play really well off of one another. And in singles competition, it's a lot harder to find a good, consistent role. There are a lot of wrestlers in today's WWE, and a lot people get lost in the shuffle. THere are not enough good, personal mid card feuds going on right now. And I think that might hurt Ted and Cody. Sure, come Wrestlemania time, a bunch of mid carders get thrown into MITB. But what else do they do all year? They job to biggers stars, or form RANDOM tag teams.

I mean on Raw, you have like 25 male wrestlers. On Smackdown, you have about the same number of guys. There's just far too much congestion in the mid card, and also in the main event picture. I think it's going to be hard for either of them to get sufficient feuds going in the next year or so. For quality purposes, I would love to see the WWE cut their roster(s) down some. And how about having the U.S. title on someone who can actually make use of it. I like the Miz, but yeah, we know, he's got three belts he carries around. Give that US title to someone else, so we can get a good feud out of it.

So, I hope Ted and Cody stay together. But if they don't, I have to say it looks like Cody might get the short end of the stick, at least first.

Last I checked, it was a triple threat match at WrestleMania between Orton/DiBiase/Rhodes. That's the whole point of my post ... for months, everyone has assumed that Orton would fight DiBiase in a singles match. They've based their entire perception on who was going to be bigger between DiBiase and Rhodes on that one potential match.

Well now that the singles match isn't happening, what makes people still assume that DiBiase will be bigger than Rhodes?

For me am effy on it cause I heard Cody saying out of all the wrestlere Shelton Benjemin was the weakest person there. Now maybe he's saying Shelton name so nooone forgets about him maybe he thinks he stinks. It left a bad taste in me mouth.

eurunks- maybe he said it because its true. wwe probably needs shelton the least out of anyone they have.

onto the main point. i agree with people when they say wwe hasnt pushed ted more than cody. each has gone on to have pretty much the same success as the other. with that said, i view cody as all around better. he is better on the mic, better in the ring, and gets a better crowd reaction most of the time than dibiase. he has a much better heel look and smile than ted. the only thing ted has is he is bigger. but look how much bigger cody got since he came into the business. go back to when he first came in and you'll see that he has grown.

i expect cody to go far in the company, and ted will probably be forgotten as he has nothing that makes him stand out.

these constant posts about ted obviously being better are annoying and just show opinion of the op. once you guys actually get evidence to your ideas, then your points may be valid.

Idea 1. - What if they have Cody work a singles program with Goldust along the lines of him being sick of how his brother is ruining the family heritage by parading around like a freak all the time.. could even get little brother and Dusty in on the story, nothing like a family clash to make a good storyline

Idea 2. - get Cody to "steal" the Million Dollar belt from Ted Snr and have Ted Jr and him run a program against one another....

when i watch them together i see cody as the much better in ring competitor, he has more explosive moves and i think that he can sell moves better too but thats just my opinion. the reason everybody says debiase will go farther is because he has the look. he has the same look that wwe seems to like making stars out of.

now to answer the actual question of what will rhodes do in the future i am assuming hes going to fued with debiase next as that would make sense if they turn on each other at wrestlemania. after that i see a us title fued or run after miz moves to the main event. obviously miz will drop it to somebody else first though because i cant see rhodes as a face. years down the line rhodes may get a main event run once some of the older wrestlers retire but i dont see it goin down for a while

I don't get why they couldn't just stay a team for a while. There's nothing special about either of them. I would call them the Cryme Tyme of Raw but that's an insult to JTG. They are about as generic as you can possibly get. Ted is not some big star ready to explode and neither is Cody.

The best that they could do is join up or feud with the Hart Dynasty. If they joined we could have a new stable running the midcard and if they feud then we have another tag team feud no one will care about and will wind up a dark match.

I think they're both worthless. Cody has no charisma, no mic skills, no build and no look. He's just goofy. If it wasn't for his dad and his brother he'd be Evan Bourning right now.

Same goes for DiBiase, the kid is nothing special. Mid-Carder at best. None of them have the "it" while Randy and BaTITSta had it.

I see Orton winning and these two falling into obscurity.

But of course, WWE needs new Main Eventers and right now instead of pushing guys oozing with charisma like Miz, Morisson and Ziggler they'll push the half-assed version of Ted DiBiase and Dusty Rhodes. Why? ... just because.

I dont know about this.....To me, legacy should go back to priceless and with it, they will be in development, because people here dont prefer ted or cody. So its time for the rebuilding of the characters the 2 posess

Let me first say that I was suprised the triple threat was the match @ Mania. I too, thought it would be Dibiase getting the massive push and Cody simply being in a spot where he had to work harder @ being over w/the writers than Jr. I'm glad all three of them are in the match as I think Cody is further ahead of Ted in overall skill and presence. His entrance in solid and he is simply better, just smaller. Ted will get the bigger push for sure through all of this but Brian Danielson and Rey Mysterio will make smaller men relevant again. Mysterio is WAY OVER right now, and Danielson will be too...the fans will see to it. This will make it easier for shorter, leaner guys w/ wrestling skill to get significant pushes and potential title runs, like Cody Rhodes.

I have entertained the prospect of the two of them teaming up, whether Dustin be himself or Goldust. It should happen and it would keep him on t.v. through the summer as they would definitely be tag title contenders, and should be champions. Chris Jericho most recently has sang the praises of Dustin (and several others have in this most recent run), and that he was better than ever. It would undoubtebly be beneficial for Cody to build momentum this way and further create his own identity with the best person to help him...his brother. Who knows better than Dustin how to seperate yourself from your much more famous father? I'm just sayin'...

I really do think Cody and Dibiase has what it takes. I just don't think they have been given to many REAL opportunities to show us. I think we have seen them at their best in their feud against DX. They are at their best when they are not in Randy’s shadow. Legacy was cool, and it had a lot of potential. But lets face it, Legacy was mostly about Randy. The faction did little for Dibase and Cody. The best thing for the two of these men right now would be to distance themselves from Randy. Heck maybe the best thing for them to do would be to end legacy and priceless all together. This way we would stop comparing the two. I say split them all up and let them do their own thing.

Now as for Cody their is a couple of things I think they could do with him. The first has already been said. Team him up with his brother. Take the paint off of Dustin and give him a more serous persona.

My second idea would be awesome. REPACKAGE CODY AS THE NEXT STING/ UNDERTAKER persona of the new generation.

I posted a cool story line about this a couple of months ago. My Idea was to have Cody cost Randy the championship in the elimination chamber. Then give him some really credible wins over Swagger, Kofi, and MVP. Eventually he would earn a shot at the US championship. Dibiase cost him the mach because of his jealousy.

Then Cody would be put in a number one contenders mach with somebody like HBK, or HHH. Cody would loose the mach but he would be made to look credible. It would be one of those “WOW, he almost had that” kind of match. Maybe getting him self a hand shake of respect. And thats the last straw for Dibiase and Randy.

As Cody is walking to the back Randy and Debiase attack and beat the crap out of Cody. Cody is so badly hurt that he is put in a ambulance. As the ambulance starts to pull away, Debiase stops it, Randy pulls the driver out, and drives it out of the arena. Outside they set the ambulance on FIRE with Cody inside. For the next couple of weeks have King and Cole say that when the fire was put out they could not find Cody’s body. No one knows where it is.

Mania rolls around and its Randy vs who ever for the championship in a no DQ mach. Dibiase comes down to help Randy win. Randy hits the RKO and goes for the pin. As the ref goes for the three count, the lights go out, and there is spooky smoke and music filling the arena. When the lights go on Cody ” The American Nightmare” Rhodes is standing in the middle of the ring. The American Nightmare then unleashes hell on Dibiase and Randy costing him the championship.

Cody would have a complete new look. Longer hair, maybe spiky. Maybe some face paint or a little eye liner or something. Or maybe a half face mask covering his mouth and left eye or something almost like “kakashi sensei” from the kids cartoon Naruto. How about some solid white eyes. SWEET!

So who pulled Cody’s dead body from the fire? THE UNDERTAKER!!! He could say that he saw a kindred sprit in Cody, so he put some of his dark soul in Cody dead body to resurrect him. Cody could also have a awesome tattoo that symbolizes the transfer and seal of the Undertakers sprit inside of him. I think I have watched to much of Naruto . lol SO WAHT DO YOU GUYS THINK?? IS THIS A BAD OR GOOD IDEA?

If they do decide to keep Legacy together, they will probably go to Smackdown to fued with Hart Dynasty. That would be nice. But most likely won't happen. I think Ted will get the singles push for sure. Reason being? They are both equal or very closely comparable in every aspect of their personas except for 1 huge difference. Ted is much better on the mic than Cody. Cody doesn't seem comfortable and kind of has a mix between his father and Jack Swagger in the speach impediment category. Ted has his father's charisma and has the look to be a main event champion. Cody could possibly get there, but I see him hanging more around the IC title/US title level until your Undertakers/Finleys/Kanes move on and spots open up on Smackdown to get yourself noticed in the main event. I would support him teaming with Dustin also, but I see Dustin getting a push on his own because of the awesome match he had with Jericho on I believe Superstars..Jericho said himself he was a VERY underrated worker. But maybe they will package them together to help Cody get over as a babyface, which his brother clearly is.
PS, I kinda like the idea of the American Nightmare character, but I don't see WWE rehashing that kind of Gimmick again.

In my humble opinion....Cody Rhodes....AND Ted DiBiase for that matter...will never be huge WWE stars like Stone Cold, The Rock, & John Cena. Rhodes and DiBiase won't even be Orton or Batista status. Cody Rhodes just looks boring as hell and if you couldn't tell they both suck with promo's. The best thing I think could happen is they just stay a tag team. They are basically the only real team WWE has at this point....and if they separate the team we all know what's going to happen. One's staying on RAW...one's going to SmackDown...but they will both be lower/mid-card. At least as the cohesive unit of 'Legacy' they are seen as a threat together (but not separately). As a tag team they main event all the time....If the team splits the farthest they are going in singles is IC/US gold. I could never see DiBiase or Rhodes in a PPV world title main event. I laugh at the thought. Anyway, keep them as a fucking team and build the tag division. I used to LOVE tag team wrestling and it's just dead these days. Wouldn't you guys rather be a tag team champion then a mid-card champion? I mean, back in the day (10-15-20 years ago) the US/IC titles actually meant something....but these days you're better off having the tag gold then one of those.

its a good question and who knows where it could lead, certainly dont see it with any of the big names but perhaps some kind of programme with Evan Bourne for Rhodes or something with a seasoned pro like Christian or Matt Hardy (if Christian doesnt win MITB that is)

in all honesty, Rhodes will get the di biase feud, but once that goes away is there anything other than Goldust in there that will make people watch?i would say probably not

Both Rhodes and Dibiase have MVP & Carlito written all over them, promise, short stint, back of the line scenario, unless creative come up with something.

This is probably never going to happen but I was thinking the other day that given Cody Rhodes is "injured" and off TV for a few weeks how cool would it be if he returned in a complete new gimmick (or should i say with a gimmick period as what he had going was <insert generic wrestler gimmick> ).

My thinking is what if he aligned himself with his brother and did a variation of the Goldust character???

Sounds crazy and possibly never going to happen you may say but think of how easy it would be for WWE to do.

Give him the same paint, outfit etc just in a different colour with slight costume variation and have them tag together.

As Goldust is one of the best tag wrestlers around and IMHO could help sell Cody's skills a lot better than Orton or Dibiase were trying to do. They could have a big run as tag champs.......

Just a thought, might be completely wrong but could work out great

My thinking was to keep Goldust off TV too and then Cody and Dustin form the Rhodes Boys or something like that. Goldust can still go in the ring and he isnt given credit as Goldust. As Dustin Runnels he will be taken seriously and they can be a solid, SOLID, tag team.

I was half thinking the same but as histroy has shown Dustin is not good unless he is in the Goldust character (must be a psychological thing...)

It could work though and if they were to bring in Dusty as the Manager could be even better

Ive been thinking that for awhile actually. But just leave them both who they are. its like the perfect odd pairing but they have common ground because theyre brothers. Itd be fun to watch for sure

I hope it happens, ecpecially now that the tag division (if your can call it a division) only has 3 teams (shomiz, hart dynasty and the dudebusters) 4 if you include truth and morrison.

Would that really work? I mean that seems like that would be a major blow to Cody's career? I mean i dont really see them ever winning the gold if they do become a tag team... the only decent tag fued i could see them having would be the hart dynesty just cuz its kinda like a family vs family type thing. but still its something that wouldn't entertain me.

OR instead of being gay about it...lol you could have him come back and unleash hell like a pissed off little young guy. He could start a feud with one of three people depending on where WWE wants to go with him.

Goldust: "You should've had my back! We're family! And why do you act like a fruitcake? You're a disgrace!" This would obviously put him at midcard status for life but it's the most likely of scenarios.

Ted DiBiase Jr: "You turned your back on me and I got punted in the f'n head man! What the H, Bro??" This one is a pretty likely scenario considering it's what everyone was expecting before he got booted in the dome to begin with. Depending on where Ted is by then, this could either catapult BOTH guys to main event status or make them linger at least toward the intercontinental championship for awhile.

Randy Orton: "Why'd you punt me, man? Totally not cool!" This could put Cody in the main event status if they did it right. Hell, they got one guy with a speech impediment as champ why not give another one a shot at that level right? This is, of course, the least likely of scenarios since we all know how much Orton is getting over right now and if Cody tried to confront him he'd get slapped around like a prison yard bitch.
