After watching Summerslam 2004, and some storylines from that timeline, it's come to my attention that Eugene was massively over.. but I still to this day, truly fail to understand why. In the end, he wasn't that talented. (Even if the mentally challenged character was a work) And when all was said and done, he didn't even win any Championships. (to my knowledge)
Yet in the end, the fans took quickly to him. I mean, massively to him, the same way they took to Steve Austin, and even Hulk Hogan. Now before I get hugely blasted, I'm not comparing Eugene to either of those individuals, but he got massive pop from the fans, each time he came out during 2004.. similar to the huge pops Steve Austin and Hulk Hogan have received. WHY!?
Do Wrestling fans love incredibly stupid gimmicks? Did everyone that year group together and say among themselves "Hey, let's randomly cheer the fuck outta some random loser who should never even remotely be considered worth a damn!" I think it's possible.
So on that note, I ask this question. And the whole purpose of this thread, is to ask this question.
Does the W.W.E need to bring in another "******/Mentally Challenged" Character?
Personally, I don't think it'd work like Eugene worked because Eric Bischoff helped Eugene get over. Along with the likes of The Rock, Triple H., Evolution, and Chris Benoit. All of which were huge during that time. But to say they shouldn't is a bit much as well.. considering how great it went over initially when they never likely considered it'd hit off that greatly.
So, I ask again.. Does the W.W.E need to bring in another "******/Mentally Challenged" Character? Please explain yourself and add detail to why you feel the way you do. Thank you.
