Mark Madden is the worst commentator in the history of the business

I'm watching some late era WCW on the network and he is just unbearable. Looking back at it, I was about 10,11 years old when WCW folded and I became a fan in '97 with the Sting/Hogan angle. I always loved Tony Schiavone and Heenan on commentary but after Heenan left things went REALLY downhill very fast.

I'm of the opinion that commentary is one of the most important aspects of a successful match/show and Mark Madden ruined alot of shows for me, even as a little kid. His voice itself is like nails on a chalkboard but combine that with his constant self-promoting and all the "insider" terms and little "shoot" jabs at everyone ( which you can tell he thinks are just the most clever and cutting-edge of comments) and it's just a melting pot of garbage.

Bottom line, he's the drizzling shits. Has anyone ever actually been a fan of this guy ?

I like Madden, the self-proclaimed "Super Genius", on his radio show, but when he was doing commentary, I agree, it was brutal.

Any wrestling talk on public radio these days is better than nothing, so I do give him props for the (albeit rare) wrestling segments he does on his show.

Anyone here whoever feels down about themselves should look at Mark Madden and realize your life is not over. If that talentless, piece of shit can have the professional success he has had, then you can as well.

Mark Madden is horrible at everything he does... writing, commentating, radio hosting, etc. But he's gotten good paychecks in all those aspects. If he can do it, so can you. So can I. Anyone can.

No... the worst by a country mile is Lord Alfred Hayes... he was f***ing awful.

Madden was/is a douche with a mic, Tenay marginally better and Adamle was not a wrestling guy...with time he'd have got it.

But Hayes had no excuse, he was a legit Brit who sounded fake, he had no timing, no real sense of himself or what Vince was going for with him and had a voice that sounded like a goose farting in the fog... I cringe every time he is onscreen which is sad cos as a wrestler he was pretty damn good... but he was mates with Vince Sr. so he had a job as long as he could have one for...

Madden was C list in WCW, he had a job cos of what ELSE he did and I am sure it was useful to someone... maybe only he knew how to make Eric's coffee just right or had a real "purty" mouth?

Today, can't stand the guy... not that I'm bitter but when he came on the old column system died here and the site has never recovered... There are at least 5 people on these forums good enough for the main page but won't get a shot cos of Madden and his ilk... LaBar is not THAT bad, but only just... Isenberg seems to be in it for something else... like he wants to be on ESPN or something... but looking coldly at it, the guys calling the action or reporting it generally have to be dull, annoying and bland otherwise they detract from the product... Guys like Jesse and Heenan were part of it but since then the best guys are ironically the worst...even JR's "BAH GOD" yell started to sound like a copy of Vince circa 1994 by the end of it...it got distracting.

No way is Hayes worse than Madden. Mark Madden was an awful commentator, the worst thing about WCW toward the end, and that's really saying something. I don't hate all of his articles, but being old enough to remember how bad he was at his job with WCW, I certainly don't think he's anywhere near as smart as he thinks he is when it comes to wrestling.

I had already given up on WCW when he came around. There's very little from that era that I have any desire to go back and watch but whenever I do, yeah his announcing sucks.

Booker T was unintentionally funny but he sucked too. He's the worst part of the Cena/Punk match at Mitb.

Tony forgets NOTHING... unless he chooses to...

In reality Shiavone is up there with bad commentators, so he can't really talk too loudly, but he was never a hack... just not as good as JR... Madden is/was a hack... it's ironic he has a resemblance to Phillip Seymour Hoffman... I always liken him to the Freddy Lounds of Wrestling.. Watch Red Dragon and you'll get it...
